“Close to heaven!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Our family of 4 which includes 2 kids aged 9 and 13 travelled to Hilltop Cottage and had the most wonderful week. None of us wanted to leave, which is quite a testament to this special haven. The particular difference to this property from others we have stayed in is not only the lovely cottage and its idyllic location, but also the inspiration that Colette herself is. During our stay Colette provided eggs from her hens, organic veg from her garden and jam that she had made herself. Her way of life is what many strive for but few attain. It was a privilege to stay at this restful refuge from the mad rat race for an all too brief time. The cottage is very well maintained and equipped. The kitchen has every piece of cooking pot, pan, etc. that you could require. There is a log burner and central heating. There is a large selection of books and games, and the most special time I had was sitting outside watching the breathtaking sunset over the mountains with only the sound of birds to accompany. This place and this time will stick in my mind for a long time to come, such is the impact it had on me.

“Wonderful Views and Perfect Location”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our Landlady, Colette, met us at the church car park at half past midnight saying that we would not find the cottage in the dark - she was right! Went to bed about 1am and woke up the next morning to brilliant sunshine and the the most wonderful views of the Ring of Kerry.
The cottage is spacious and comfortable with a terrace upon which to sit and admire the view. Although there are other cottages nearby, the peace and quiet is lovely and perfect for total rest from the hubbub of normal life.

Colette is on hand, welcoming, friendly and very helpful - wherever we went, for miles around, everyone knew her and spoke kindly of her.

“Lovely welcoming house with wonderful views”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Hilltop Cottage is a lovely, comfortable house full of character and interest -and the views from inside and especially from the patio are absolutely magnificent. We spent long periods outdoors - helped by a lot of good weather - gazing at the ever-changing panorama of Kerry's mountains across the Kenmare waters, as well as the foreground of Collorus's rocky and wooded headland.
Colette is a warm and generous host: she lives nearby and is chatty and interested in guests without impinging at all on our space and quiet time; and supplies of eggs, salad and herbs from her garden added much to our meals.
The kitchen is very well-stocked, the rooms are colourful and spacious and as well as the usual facilities such as TV, DVD etc, there's a great shelf of books and games available. There's just one bedroom with a big comfortable double-bed, but there's plenty of space for the two futons, for young children or another adult or two; and there are two bathrooms. Another plus, so often missing in holiday rentals, is good reading lights over the bed.
Collorus is on the north coast of Beara, with easy access to many of the peninsula's attractions: wonderful walks on the Beara Way, Josie's great restaurant in Glanmore en route to the spectacular views at the Healy Pass; the attractive villages of Ardgroom and Eyeries; the lively towns of Kenmare and Castletownbere, and so much more.
One thing we hadn't packed - protective spray against the midges that came out on warm still evenings. It's rare on Ireland's coasts not to have a breeze to keep midges away, however, and once we got to the local pharmacist, we could resume gazing at those unforgettable views.

Liked best: Location, views and character of the house
Liked least: Access to walks on Collorus itself being very restricted by fencing off by private landowners - additional access to the seashore should be possible without infringing on other houses.

“Perfect view from the hilltop”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

It is just a few weeks ago that we stayed in the hilltop cottage. We get a very warm and lovely welcome from Colette. The view from the cottage over the bay and the fantastic landscape was amazing. The cottage itself is fantastic, it has everything you need for a perfect holiday. The eggs from Colette's hens are delicious. The cottage is located in very calm and lovely part of the beara peninsula with a lot of different kinds of landscape around it.
We recommend the cottage to everyone who will love the perfect scenery and need a quit time to leave stress and work behind. Many thanks to Colette and her beautiful cottage on the top of a hill with a nice view over the bay.

“Peace & quiet”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We had a wonderful week at Hilltop. Despite the weather, we had some good walks & Collette was incredibly helpful with advice on what to do. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Just what we needed to leave behind the stress and strain.

If you are looking for an ideal location in County Kerry, this property should be seriously considered. Colette (the owner) is warm, hospitable, accommodating and very friendly. She has loads of information concerning Ireland and, more specifically, the area in which you would be staying. Her cottage is immaculate. Very comfortable, charming and filled with her personal keep sakes. So nicely decorated and very pleasing to the eye. We have stayed in many such cottages but by far this is the best we have encountered. And who say's October is out of season? Not our experience! The weather was great. We loved our stay at the Hill Top Cottage. Would go back tomorrow if we could.

“a beautiful cottage with a stunning view”

Hilltop Cottage is a gem. It is beautifully furnished and very comfortable, and well-equipped. It has an attractive seating area outside. The cottage has views from all the front windows of sea and mountains. It is the nicest place we have stayed in. Colette, the owner could not have been more friendly and informative. The cottage is quiet and remote, but there are beautiful gardens, walks, stone circles and beaches nearby. We are planning our second trip.
