The Pieve Suites were absolutely perfect for my small group of friends traveling together in Italy. We chose the lovely hilltop town of Città della Pieve as our base from which to explore Umbria & Tuscany, and we were not disappointed with neither the town, nor the beautiful Pieve Suites!
The 3 suites are the brainchild of our host, Anne Hanley, a very talented landscape architect and long-time resident of CdiP. She took a dilapidated building on the most beautiful street in the Centro Storico, and restored it top-to-bottom with an incredible attention to detail. The end result is a brilliant mix of modern and classic Italian design.
The entrance leads to a shared corridor, with one suite on each floor. Clean white walls act as a perfect compliment to the areas of exposed antique brick, and skylights illuminate the glossy white staircase. Each suite is slightly different, and it’s almost impossible to choose a favorite - the fabrics, furniture, fixtures and tile that Anne chose for each suite are stunning! All 3 suites have an equipped kitchenette, a sofa, table/chairs & a small desk, along with a wonderfully comfortable bed and well-appointed modern bathroom. The Garden Suite has a beautiful private terrace shaded by a grape-vine arbor. Both the Mid & Top Suites have expansive views of the valley & hills. The Mid Suite is decorated in fantastic shades of teal & blue, and the Top Suite has a loft bedroom with a skylight - you can literally see the stars above you! All 3 suites enjoy natural light, but the beautiful drapes and shades can be closed if one prefers sleeping in darkness. Each couple had total privacy in their suite, but we also were able to hang out together in all 3 of the suites, sharing wine & delicious snacks that we picked up in town or on our daily excursions.
I have traveled extensively in Italy, and this was the best “B&B” experience I’ve ever had. None of us wanted to leave the Pieve Suites, and I can’t wait to return!!
