“"Simply Perfect"”

I am so thrilled to have found "The Old School Bed & Breakfast & Betty's Cottage" & will be definately visiting again.

Originally from the area i try & visit once/twice a year. Looking on the internet i fell across "The Old School" website & decided to give it a go.

After a long drive (over Hard Knott Pass - not for the faint hearted) my partner & i arrived to a warm welcome from Lesley & Bruce, her very well mannered Black Lab.

The room was fantastic with no detail spared, the homemade biscuits, flapjack & generous serving of Port was welcomed greatly. The decor was superb, boutique like with an African theme. Every need was filled, from an eclectic reading choice to free WiFi, good range of toiletries to trouser press. Faultless !

Breakfast choice was endless, we opted for Full English with varied eggs, toast, tea & coffee, it was brilliant & set us up for the day.

We can't wait to return & our only negative is that it was a one night visit.

Thank you Lesley & John for not only your hospitality but a truely faultless stay.

I feel privileged to be one of the first to write a review on Betty's ! A couple of years ago we spent a delightful weekend at the Bridge Inn which was then owned by Lesley and John. When planning a return visit over the Christmas period we discovered they had just opened up their lovely home to guests' and knowing what great hosts they both are, we couldn't resist giving their new business venture a try. We were certainly not disappointed !!!
After a long drive from London, we couldn't have wished for a warmer, more hospitable welcome. John, Lesley and of course Bruce greeted us like old friends and it continued this way throughout our stay. We found Betty's Cottage suited all our needs and more. It has a VERY comfortable double bed with beautiful linen and is situated in the eaves of the roof which lent itself to a very peaceful nights' sleep. Downstairs has a good sized bathroom with a great shower which is much appreciated if you've been on a long hike/walk. The kitchen is vey well equipped with everything you could possibly need if you fancy a bit of cooking. The lounge (my favourite room !!!) is so cozy and comfortable and made for some very relaxing evenings after a long hard day, mainly frequenting some of the local pubs !!!!!
One morning we didn't feel like cooking breakfast so John offered to knock us up one of his 'infamous fry ups". WOW what a treat, it was everything you would expect and more...AND great value for money as we were both full until dinner !
Finally, I would like to add that Lesley is 'the guru" on the local area having lived there all her life and is always more than happy to pass on some of her extensive knowledge or if it's simply a chat you're after, she'll be more than happy to oblige...
Lastly, this review would not be complete without a mention about Bruce (black labrador) Louis and Lucy (the cats). In our opinion, memorable stays are made by "the little things" and ours was made very special by our daily visits from all three....

Thank you John and Lesley for opening your home to us and for a wonderful stay...we are sure to return !!!!!
