From the moment you arrive you are made feel welcome and at home. The location of the house has fantastic views and walks . The room itself is spotless clean, cosy, and welcoming, [ we didn't want to leave] The owner herself is the greatest asset this b&b has, she is friendly, chatty, helpful and goes out of her way to make your stay a good one . What can I say about the breakfast... the best breakfast I've ever had, homemade bread , and the fact that everything was made fresh for you , We will def be back , as this was only the first of many visits.

We stayed at The Old School House for three nights and were thrilled to find that real hospitality still exists in bucketfuls here with our hosts Lesley and John.
Homemade bread and cakes, a welcoming glass of port, a breakfast that can't be beaten and what seemed like a million little touches that made us determined to return. Lesley has that extraordinary ability of making one feel like a long lost friend and truly valued.
If you read Tripadvisor looking for assurance take it from us - this is the perfect stay.

Room Tip: Trust your hostess! We accidentally gave swimming pool a five star rating but Tripadvisor's sys...

Having decided to climb up Scafell Pike we hurriedly looked for somewhere to stay close to Wastwater Head. What a treat we found! As we arrived we were welcomed by Lesley and Bruce (a very friendly black Labrador whose part trick is to smile at the guests!) and shown to our room where a glass of port and a slice of homemade banana bread was waiting. The room was a good size and fitted out to a very high quality along with a wide selection of books, magazines and local guides to help you plan your time there. The breakfast was fantastic - freshly cooked to order and made with local produce. When we returned from our walk up Scafell Pike late on Saturday afternoon there were 2 more treats waiting for us - chocolate covered strawberries and homemade flapjacks. Wonderful! All in all an excellent B&B run by an excellent host - Lesley.

One of the best weekend breaks ever. Arriving with friends we found homemade flapjack and a wee glass of port to welcome us in our room on arrival. The rooms are amazing with the most beautiful views and lots of very lovely added extras to make it feel a home from home.attention to detail is 5star. Lesley and John treat you like long lost friends and nothing is too much trouble for them. Breakfast is gorgeous with a vast array of choice.... the homemade yoghurt and raspberry pots are delicious along with everything else, also the packed lunches are amazing value and the homemade bread is delicious,
A real gem of a place... wish we were staying longer

Well just spent a wonderfull weekend stay in Bettys cottage whilst our friends stayed in the one of there quality rooms. Lesley & Jon were great hosts and could'nt do enough to make your stay unforgettable. We stayed in the cottage which met all our exspectations and more. The views from our bedroom were to die for !! The breakfast was full of quality, lovely fresh local produce with a great choice. Loved all the extra touches that Lesley had thought of so to make this place so special. Definately recommend and will return.

After a very very long journey crawling up the M6, we finally arrived rather late to the B&B. We'd had to cancel our meal out given how late we got to the Lake District but Lesley was a wonderfully welcoming and sympathetic host when we arrived. The little treats and drink were lovely touches and made us feel like our weekend away had finally started.

The location has lovely views across the fields, the room was spacious with personal touches in the decoration. The bed was big and fluffy with soft sheets and the en suite, modern and clean with a good power shower. There was a wide variety of food for breakfast and by making your selection the night before, the food was ready for you in the conservatory to enjoy looking out on the garden.

Homemade cake in the afternoon after a long walk was most welcome and the port before bed ensures a restful night. All in all, we would highly recommend this lovely little place.

WELL....we have just had the most wonderful night (in a fourposter bed)...Lesley and John were SOO welcoming...not at all what we expected..what a wonderful surprise EVERYTHING is top class, from lavender spray to help sleep,to fluffy white towels and a very comfortable and quiet nights sleepy...it was all dreamy, and part of my 70th birthday present!!!!!!!
When we left this morning we were given a sweetie & a drink for our journey...felt we were leaving friends.
The self contained cottage is beautiful..we had a nosey.
A fantastic job is being done at this B & B.
