“Amazing location - rooms not so good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2013

Arriving at this hotel was fabulous. When you drive down and first see the lake, it takes your breath away. I had always wanted to come to Annecy and so we stopped off for one night on our ‘grand tour’ of France. I had used Tripadvisor to help choose a hotel in Annecy and I’m glad to have chosen this one.

The best thing about this hotel is the location and the view. We didn’t have time to explore the entire lake, but in my opinion the view from the hotel is the best you can get of the entire Lac d’Annecy. The hotel grounds are stunning, and you can walk through the garden to the little pontoons jutting out into the water, and just sit and admire the view. We noticed there was an outdoor restaurant/bar area but it wasn’t open whilst we were there (the weather wasn’t great).

Apart from the view and setting, however, the hotel was a bit of a let-down. The reception is lovely, but I found the rooms a little bit small. I had paid extra to get a balcony, but the balconies are so small that you can only stand on them, not sit out there.

When we arrived we were given keys to a room which smelled very heavily of smoke, so I told reception, who swapped our room for another. Amazingly, I was told that guests are allowed to smoke in rooms, hence the smell! This really put me off.

The room was comfortable, but definitely showing signs of wear and tear, especially in the bathroom (e.g. cracked/crumbling tiles around the bath). Our room was also partitioned with one of those flimsy ‘fake’ walls which can be pulled apart if you wanted two rooms to be together – this meant we could hear the people in the room next door.

Dinner at the hotel restaurant, Le Viu, was excellent. I had booked a while in advance and they had reserved a fantastic table for us, in the corner, with beautiful views of the lake whilst the sun was setting. The food was wonderful (I remember the soufflé fondly) and the wine list was very good. We had a great evening.

Breakfast was ok (buffet-style) but there was no staff present and if you wanted tea and coffee you had to use one of those awful automatic machines.

In a nutshell – come here for the wonderful location and for dinner at Le Viu, but maybe look elsewhere for better rooms.

Although we spent only 1 night and in a very quite season (March 2013), this hotel is a gem. Excellent location, view of the lake are breathtaking, excellence service and food. We were greeted by receptionist on arrival and since that moment everything we asked for was done exceptionally by hotel staff. Restaurant Vu's is awesome. You must try cheese soufflé is it something special, but all other dishes are great, huge compliments to the chef. Hotel has a great park as well as beautiful promenade walk. Its is only 20 min away from city of Annesee , but brilliant place to spend a break or even vacation on the lake.

Room Tip: We had lake view room and it was something special, as you can see the lake and mountains on the rig...

We stayed in a lake view room #314 for 3 days. The grounds are fabulously manicured. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and sincere. The room was clean and average size for Europe. The bathroom was large and as a great surprise, there was a walk-in closet. I liked the very firm bed. The views of the lake and the castle were magnificent. We purchased breakfast with our room as we didn’t know the area. It included the usual continental spread and the products were of high quality. We enjoyed lunch on the terrace down by the lake. Good menu. A boat rental without a license was easy. The desk was happy to help. We had trouble with the Wi-Fi so the staff provided us with a reliable cable. The hotels loungers along the lake were comfortable, quiet & drink service was provided. There are restaurants, shops and a grocery store just around the corner. Le Palace de Menthon provided a relaxed, elegant atmosphere we did not want to leave.

Everything was perfect about our three days here. The price, the room, the view, and most of all, the food at both restaurants was superb. The staff could not have been more helpful. It really is a special place.

Room Tip: We had a room without a lake view, but it had a stunning view of the castle on the mountain, which w...

This hotel is in a prime spot on the shore of Lake Annecy, with great views looking down the lake towards Annecy. The building retains the grandeur and style of a pre-WW2 grand hotel.

Positives: great location, comfortable rooms, and the lakeside restaurant that served decent food in a great location.

Minor issues/notes: 1) our room had a very large walk-in wardrobe, which was great, athough as we were only staying to nights we didn't want to unpack all of our luggage... but this meant there was little room for the cases. 2) Getting the luggage to the room from the car was also a bit of a hike - there is no lift access direct to the underground car park, only a staircase - so we needed to move the car in order to drop off luggage at the main entrance. 3) the corridors have minimal natural light and therefore depend on electric lights, which ony come on if you push one of the timer switches that are dotted along the corridor. However the timings are only for a limited time so it is common to be plunged into darkness when walking between the lift and our room - why can't they use automatic sensors?.

The one real gripe I have is that the lounge was not open in the morning. This might not normally affect visitors - there is a separate conference centre and we got the impression that such business users were the focus of the hotel's attention during our visit (we were asked to move seats in the outdoor drinks area to allow a group to be seated). However, on a wet morning if you want to sit somewhere other than your room you are directed to the outside restaurant area.... which when we asked there for a coffee it felt as though this was not normally done and special arrangements had to be made.

Room Tip: if you can't get a lake view (it looks like most do) then teh back of the hotel appears to face...

An absolute gem of a hotel - we attended the most beautiful wedding here recently, and the lake made a perfect backdrop for the ceremony. Great views over Lake Annecy aside, the hotel itself is lovely. Nice, well ventilated rooms, a lovely pool set beside well-maintained gardens, a good breakfast spread in the gorgeous dining room made for a very nice weekend indeed. (A minor hitch at breakfast as the coffee machine ground to a halt, but the charming restaurant staff made up for it by fetching fresh brew from the kitchen)

The only downside was the slow process at check in and check out, and confusion around whether or not breakfast had been included in our room rate when booking online. (We were certain it was included, but check out staff insisted that was not the case. We found out later that we were not the only couple to have had this discussion upon checkout, so clearly there was something wrong).

Stayed for two nights in one of the suites. Extremely good deal for 130 euros per night. This hotel is beautifully located at the lake with stunning views. The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. The room's minbar was a but disappointing with just a couple of drinks. Make sure you have a good condition as you need to climb quite some stairs from the main gate of the property to the main hotel entrance.
