“Views are out of this world! You pay for it, though!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2013

The views from this place are simply stunning! However, you do pay over the odds for the privilege of such an exclusive location. The exclusivity however does mean that you'll need a car in order to travel in to the main town of annecy which is around a 10 minute drive around the lake.

The indoor pool, sauna and bar area are fantastic at this dog friendly hotel but they are located beneath the main hotel grounds and there are A LOT of stairs to get to and from this area.

We had a 6 mixer drinks and a bottle of wine over the 3 days we were there which came to over £100 so, top tip: watch the bar tab closely!

We didn't eat here (because it was shut whenever we wanted to eat - between 2-7pm!) but heard fantastic things from the other guests who chose to eat at the designated times.

Overall, a wonderful place to spend a few days!

We have been fortunate enough to stay at the Villa D'Este on Lake Como. That is a fabulous hotel but in some ways (not least the outstanding view from the bedroom) the Palace betters the lakeside experience for a completely different price bracket.

We drove up from the South where the environment changed to fresh mountain and a deep green one we passed Grenoble. We had never been to Annecy before and certainly not Menthon Saint Bernard. We wished we'd had. Having picked our way through the tourists lounging quietly by the lake, we were welcomed by the hotel staff and swiftly shown to the room. Simple, clean and quite spacious with a perfect view over the lake in warm and sunny weather.

We ate outside in the restaurant by the lake and the food was simple, healthy and excellent in a lovely environment. The staff were attentive, courteous and hard working, over seen by an excellent maitre d' - nothing escaped his attention. It got a little cold by comparison to Antibes and he quickly provided a shawl to Mrs W, gaining great brownie points.

We slept well and woke to that fabulous view and another beautiful day. For €250 you expect something good but this hotel surpassed expectations for a last minute booking. We are told that they do 54 weddings here despite not doing any in the winter months. I am not surprised.

Someone said that it could be 5 star with some work - maybe so, but that would be a shame!

Room Tip: Pay for the lake view!

This hotel has no air conditioning, so keeping the window open is a necessity in summer. That would have been fine, had there not been a wedding after-party outside that raged on until 4:30 am. Sleep was impossible. Did the hotel staff intervene for the benefit of their guests? No! Either they feared upsetting the wedding party, or they just don't care. I would not stay there again.

The view from the hotel is amazing, lake and mountains around. The hotel staff was also superhelpful. Rooms clean, cosy, no complains at all. Only surprise, tiny minus too, was that there were not that many options for vegetarians available.

by staying in this hotel you will enjoy the magical views of lake annecy , whether you are in the balcony or in the resturant or in the garden ,, also you can walk on the road in front of the gate towards the port or drive a little distance at the back of the hill to enjoy Talloires imaginary views of the lack , this place is very charming for honeymooners as they will still remember this place for the rest of their lives , so , you can spend one day exploring the front and the other day at the back of the hotel and the third day going to Annecy old city and the beautiful park there , staff where very nice , and there is a young girl at the restaurant i did not have the chance to thank her before checking out , she is like a bee trying to satisfy us at breakfast hall , the room ( suite ) was great ,, the only down thing about this hotel is breakfast , very very very limited choices and some of the dishes smells bad ( like uncooked egg ) ,, best regards to all viewers .

Room Tip: lake view rooms with a balcony ( small ) at high floor is fantastic .

Arriving at this hotel was fabulous. When you drive down and first see the lake, it takes your breath away. I had always wanted to come to Annecy and so we stopped off for one night on our ‘grand tour’ of France. I had used Tripadvisor to help choose a hotel in Annecy and I’m glad to have chosen this one.

The best thing about this hotel is the location and the view. We didn’t have time to explore the entire lake, but in my opinion the view from the hotel is the best you can get of the entire Lac d’Annecy. The hotel grounds are stunning, and you can walk through the garden to the little pontoons jutting out into the water, and just sit and admire the view. We noticed there was an outdoor restaurant/bar area but it wasn’t open whilst we were there (the weather wasn’t great).

Apart from the view and setting, however, the hotel was a bit of a let-down. The reception is lovely, but I found the rooms a little bit small. I had paid extra to get a balcony, but the balconies are so small that you can only stand on them, not sit out there.

When we arrived we were given keys to a room which smelled very heavily of smoke, so I told reception, who swapped our room for another. Amazingly, I was told that guests are allowed to smoke in rooms, hence the smell! This really put me off.

The room was comfortable, but definitely showing signs of wear and tear, especially in the bathroom (e.g. cracked/crumbling tiles around the bath). Our room was also partitioned with one of those flimsy ‘fake’ walls which can be pulled apart if you wanted two rooms to be together – this meant we could hear the people in the room next door.

Dinner at the hotel restaurant, Le Viu, was excellent. I had booked a while in advance and they had reserved a fantastic table for us, in the corner, with beautiful views of the lake whilst the sun was setting. The food was wonderful (I remember the soufflé fondly) and the wine list was very good. We had a great evening.

Breakfast was ok (buffet-style) but there was no staff present and if you wanted tea and coffee you had to use one of those awful automatic machines.

In a nutshell – come here for the wonderful location and for dinner at Le Viu, but maybe look elsewhere for better rooms.

Although we spent only 1 night and in a very quite season (March 2013), this hotel is a gem. Excellent location, view of the lake are breathtaking, excellence service and food. We were greeted by receptionist on arrival and since that moment everything we asked for was done exceptionally by hotel staff. Restaurant Vu's is awesome. You must try cheese soufflé is it something special, but all other dishes are great, huge compliments to the chef. Hotel has a great park as well as beautiful promenade walk. Its is only 20 min away from city of Annesee , but brilliant place to spend a break or even vacation on the lake.

Room Tip: We had lake view room and it was something special, as you can see the lake and mountains on the rig...
