“Neat and tidy”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Small hotel in the small town of Exloo. It’s on the main road through town so you do get a bit of road noise at night. The family room was nice size, the bathroom as well. As with most country hotels in Europe, room was clean, neat and tidy. Bath had the shower in the tub with one of those half pane glass doors that makes it difficult to take a shower without getting water all over the floor. Good supply of towels and liquid bath soap. Beds were comfortable enough. Only ventilation was opening 2 x ceiling windows. Since there’s no A/C, not sure how warm the room gets in the middle of summer. Some rather steep stairs to the second floor. Room had a small fridge and TV with English channels. Did have issues with the WiFi, only intermittent availability.

Made my reservation through Booking.com, so assumed I could use my US Credit Card on checkout. No such luck. Was told by the management that the machine only accepts chip cards, not magnetic strip cards, because to sign up for the strip reader costs the establishment extra, hmmmmmm, have never heard that before. Note that most establishments in Europe have the strip reader taped over but I’ve always taken the tape off and successfully read the card. In any case, slight inconvenience and loss of card points, had to run over to the bank and make a quick withdrawal.

Hotel has a restaurant as well as outdoor seating. Rental bicycles are also available. Bakery and additional restaurants are just up the street.
Management speaks English. Limited parking available in the rear of the building, when that’s full only street parking available (Note, beware if you have a rental vehicle parked on the street, the EU does have its share of thievery and Air Bags are prime targets). All in all, a decent experience at the Hotel and can't think of anything that would keep me from returning.

Room Tip: A room with cross ventilation windows would be good in the summertime.

We only went to the restaurant, we did not stay at the Hotel. As it had been a long time since we were there.
The weather was beautiful so we had atable outside to enjoy our dinner.

It was great. The food was of excellent quality for the price level. We really enjoyed our evening. As the owner is also indensian, they have sme indonesioan dishes as well. Wonderfull tast and great.

Just go there it is great.

Voor de nerderlanders, heen gaan. Uitstekende prijs kwaliteit verhouding. Geweldige locatie in een leuk drents dorp.

Veel plezier.

This is a small, fresh country hotel in Exloo. The service is wonderful, the rooms are well-designed and welcoming. The breakfast is lavish and the best country style food tou can find. Everything comes with a smile and genuine interest. If you want Dutch friendliness this is a great choice!

We spent one night at this hotel in June. We are from Australia and were visiting relatives in a nearby town. We absolutley loved this hotel. The owner and his family are very friendly and speak english very well. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. It sits in the middle of a gorgeous country town. No shops just a couple of cafes. We took a long walk around the town and through the fields of potatoes growing everywhere. This totally added to our experience. On arrival, we sat for a drink in the sunny terrace. You can have a drink or have a meal out on the terrace. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room. The dinner was fantastic. Beautiful food. Breakfast is buffet style with everything you could want. The set up was small, making it feel more like a homely B&B. We did feel like we were in someones house not a hotel. The hospitality was amazing. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a friendly relaxing time in a gorgeous town. Oh and this town is great for bike riders.

Not many choices of hotel with restaurant which provides Indonesian cuisine in Exloo (part of Drenthe in Netherland), except the one at De Meulenhoek Hotel Restaurant. When I came there with a friend, I felt like back home. I stayed during the weekend and enjoyed the special Indonesian cuisineof Soto Ayam and Rendang, but of course the chef has adjusted the taste with Ducth taste on its dishes. That's okay, cause the food still has its original taste anyway. The nature park around the restaurant made me feel fresh. The ambience of its hotel and restaurant itself made me enjoy my holiday and felt at home as in my own country. If you're looking for some place to refresh your mind from the busy daily activities, then Exloo is the right place. De Meulenhoek is the right hotel to stay at and its restaurant is the right place to spend the night with a comfortable dinner.
