“Somewhere to go”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

Visited the gardens admittedly at the end of the season. Palm trees don't seem to differ, once you've seen one you've seen them all!
Although the actual gardens themselves were worth a visit but only if you are staying locally, we had driven 2hrs to get to Elche

“Well worth a visit.”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Fascinating range of palm trees, plants and some cacti. Tranquil, calm and well laid out, the garden was very interesting and even taking in everything did not take a lot of time to get around.

“Not sure if we found it or not”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

As other reviewers have commented you're never sure if this is 'it'. The tourist office tried to be helpful but we found it difficult to grasp 'what can we see here'.
Nevertheless what we saw was interesting and there is plenty of potential for photography here.

“More palmtrees than residents”
Reviewed 19 May 2013

There are supposed to be around 181 000 palmtrees within Elche's city limits- but if you ask someone, where to find "el palmeral", they stare at you as if you came from outerspace....to cut the long story short: there is no ONE palmtreepark - Elche IS the palmtreepark! But el palmeral might be commonly understood as the "huerto del cura", a small park of 13000 qm with around 1000 palmtrees. You pay an entrance fee of € 5.- and you dive into an oasis of tranqulity and peace, you watch the high palmtrees shaking in the warm breeze, and you relax in the shadow of the palmleaves.
It is easy to get there by local train (cercanías) from Alicante, this takes you about 25 mins. to "Elche parc" . If you leave the station building in "Elche parc", turn left, pass the parking lot and turn again left, then all straight towards the city centre. Takes you about 15 mins to the huerto" an the palmeral-museum (museum closed from 2 pm to 4 pm, sundays only open from 10 am to 1.30 pm).
If you love palm trees, this UNESCO world heritage site is a must.
