“Excellent location for overnight stop pre / post ferry”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2013

I'm a big fan of Campaniles for overnight stops because I find they tick all the right boxes - good food, comfortable beds and strong showers. Campanile Loon Plage didn't disappoint. We had driven up from the south of france that day so all we wanted was to arrive, eat and flop into bed - for which campaniles are perfect. I confess that nine times out of ten i stay in campaniles for the fact I know the buffets are always excellent - and you know it will be clean, good value and functional rooms. Also - free wifi is a must for me in hotels - which they always provide.

It's a modern hotel - very well appointed for both the Dunkerque and Calais ferry ports. We stayed there overnight to catch the early morning ferry from Calais and it was only 25 mins drive to the port - and a much nicer and better value than most of the offerings in the town of Calais itself at the time of booking.

The room was awesome - we booked a room with two singles and double, and what we got was a suite! There was a large living space, two single beds at one end and a sofa and tv at the other - then a separate room with a double bed in it. The bathroom had a bath and large separate walk in shower. The toilet was in a separate room too. Looking at the fire escape plan we had the biggest room in the hotel by far - I think there is only one - so if you're after the big room then book it early!!

It was very quiet when we were there - having read other peoples reviews before booking I could see the car-park getting quite crowded on busy nights - especially as it is shared with the next-door premiere classe hotel. Interestingly - there is a premiere classe, Kyriad and Campanile all within 100 metres of each other (all in the same hotel group) so you could stay in one and dine in the other if you wanted to. There is also a Poivre Rouge diner just across the road so there is lots of eating options.

The staff were friendly and polite, the menu was fine - all in a good stop - the only thing I would point out is that it's not in the actual town of Dunkirque but outside it on one of the industrial estates. You need a car to get there - don't think it's a public transport job!

We always use this hotel on our continental motoring trips as it is ideally placed 5 mins from the ferry port it has been extensively refurbished during the last 12 months and is an excellent facility but the prices have been uplifted presumably to cover the costs the food is excellent also but again slightly expensive for this class of hotel.

Room Tip: Hopefully you will get a room at the far end of the corridor then guests leaving early will not trai...

I've used this hotel three times, always for an overnight stay before catching the DFDS ferry back to the UK when we have driven up from Italy. The first two times we stayed I didn't even want to review it, it was very very tired, with broken fittings in the bathroom, and noisy clientele throughout the night.
Two years later, and it's been transformed. All the rooms have had a makeover, they have new beds with "Tempur Type' mattresses, new bathroom fittings...all in all a total transformation. A vast (and now barriered) car park, and a small bar in reception that remains open all night via the night porter. Food is in fact excellent and reasonably-ish priced, especially the all you want to eat €9 buffet breakfast.
Being only 5 mins away from the ferryport, it is always busy with travellers on their way out or on their way back, but it doesn't seem crowded, especially at mealtimes.
There is a monster Auchan supermarket about two miles away for your last minute duty frees.
Never thought I'd stop there again, but I'm glad I did, now it is back on the list!

Room Tip: The hotel is in an extremely quiet location on the way into the ferry port. The only noise comes fro...

Breakfast, fresh and reasonable selection.
Good value at €48 per night. Would stay again. Staff polite and friendly

Good location for Dunkerque Ferry Port and not so far for Calais. Not sure if it has recently opened or has been refurbished, but my room looked new and was very clean and tidy. On site restaurant was good. Best Campanile I have stayed at.

Room Tip: Ideal location for Ferries

Good location, if you travel by car! Big parking (free!) available.
If not travelling by car, not that interesting, as it is far from touristacal spots.
Good Room with excellent Bed and clean bathroom.
Nice staff, very friendly.
The only big disadvantage was the poor internet connection.Even to slow to send e-mails! :o(

Great location near the ferry Port. Arrived at 2:30am French time and was greeted by the night porter as reception closed at 11pm.
Breakfast was plentiful and fresh and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Lovely, clean modern hotel with restaurant and free car park approx' 15 minutes from Dunkerque centre.
Good base for visiting northern France including Lille and parts of Belgium with the beautiful and historic cities of Ypres and Brugge less than an hour away.

Room Tip: Our room was on the back and we hardly heard the traffic from the fairly busy road.
