What a truly enchanting place this is! Peaceful, beautiful gardens and parkland, an atmospheric medieval house, in the heart of glorious English countryside, with a fabulous Orangery tearoom serving freshly-made lunches and delicious home-made cakes. What's not to like!!!
We visted in October and there was plenty of autumn colour in the gardens: amber and russet-leaved trees, vibrant purple and orange dahlias, even a few roses and marigolds still in bloom. The formal gardens are laid out like a series of exquisite rooms, with water features, crystal-clear pools, a Dutch garden, maze, wisteria tunnel - and much more. Inside, the house has been restored to emphasise its medieval heritage, and is full of fascinating artefacts and atmospheric rooms whose history is revealed during an excellent 45-minute guided tour.
We really enjoyed our visit and will certainly return. First visit on the calendar will be the Christmas Fair on the last weekend in November, followed by a trip to see the Spring flowers. Thoroughly recommended.
A glimpse of rural English history at its best
The grounds are great particularly the sunken garden and the maze, we had a lot of fun. don't bother with the "castle" add on though, it's a guided tour, you are very rushed, don't get given time to stop and look at things you may want to and you see very little of it, what you basically see is the hotel part where they hold weddings.
What a gem. Loved the tour of the court the interior is amazing. There was to be a wedding on the weekend and the preparations were under way. The restoration by the former American owner are sensational
I absolutely loved the place and the gardens are terrific as well. Don't miss it if you are in the area.
A great and very interesting day out
Gardens are well laid out and full of plants and water features and so many interesting nooks and crannies to find the maze is brilliant for the children.
The castle tour was brilliant the guide was amazingly full of facts and so interesting.
Lots of picnic areas or the cafe was very nice.
What a hidden gem! Whilst it seems expensive to go in, when you find out how the place is run and it’s history you’ll appreciate it that bit more.
Stunning gardens - a visit to the sunken garden is an absolute must!
Sharon, our guide, was full of interesting information about the property and more than happy to answer any questions.
Super property - would definitely recommend
Visited yesterday, Castlle was brilliant Mike verygood.unfortunately the cafe let it down. We arrived at the cafe alongside a coach party and slotted in the middle, it took an hour to get to the till to order and then if you wanted to omit something like salad with the roll they couldn't understand that so food was wssted.
