My parents & I were staying at the Travelodge near Penrith whilst travelling back from Scotland.
We decided to go for a meal at The Horse and Farrier having read previous reviews. The satnav came in useful when trying to find it! ( At first, we were a bit apprehensive entering a pub in such a small village in case it was full of locals that all turn round at stare at you!) We were made to feel very welcome. The service was excellent, the food was tasty and good value for money.

A bit of a hidden gem this place. Dacre takes a bit of finding but we go past it a lot when we are staying in the lakes in our static.
Ales are very good as is the food. Menu is a little limited jnd the place itself certainly isn't luxurious. Quaint might be a better word. Food is however very good and well priced.

We stopped off on our way back to our campsite for a hot meal after a hike. We got there at 2.45pm, they stopped serving food at 3pm and we were afraid they would turn us away. The landlady was more than happy to take our order and was very welcoming and friendly. The beer was well kept, the food was tasty when it arrived and given the other prices we had seen and paid for similar during our stay in the lakes it was very good value.

The duck paddling pool is a great feature too!

The place didn't live up to the expectations created by other reviews.
The food was mediocre (Seafood pie was OK, the steak I had was dry, and chewy).
Service was good though, and location is nice.
Overall: meh.
