Luke warm water, grotty room, stale bread with ants on for breakfast and staff told us the wrong bus time to thermals and wrong boat time to Argentina (3 hrs out!) Oh and they dont provide towels..not even at an extra cost.

I stayed 2 nights in this hostel. It's horribly expensive by South American standards, but that's how Uruguay and Salto is (about 16 US dollars for a dorm bed...). There is wifi, you can use the kitchen and the shared places to hang out are comfortable. Breakfast is included but the bread was stale, and the hot water in the shower was only lukewarm.
The owner is a nice guy but tried to pick me up so I felt a bit uncomfortable.

This hostel has good communal spaces plus a clean and spacious kitchen. The staff are really helpful and helped us to book buses as well as letting us use the facilities after we booked out. Wifi is also available and a free computer. Salto is expensive for hostels and this is still expensive by the standards of the rest of South America but apparently it is the 2nd cheapest place in Salto (so we were told by the staff). The hostel is very central. The room we stayed in was very basic and the sheets a bit threadbare (no towels) but overall it was a good experience in a bit of an out of the way place.
