Description: We are a friendly deli/cafe that offers real honest food, cooked fresh to order in our kitchen. We are known for our friendly staff and great quality food and deli made cakes and our signature scones. We have a large deli counter where we serve over 30 cheeses, lots of different olives, cured meats, charcuterie, anti pasta and much more.

We dropped in on for a mid week late lunch - the premises don't look much from the outside but the deli inside is spacious with a decent sized seating area and plenty of displays of local produce. The gourmet rolls were tasty and you had the option of choosing your bread from a decent selection - waitresses were knowledgeable about the different breads on offer. All meals were made freshly to order. The staff were friendly and welcoming. If in the area again we would return to try one of the main dishes from the menu.

Having seen it advertised Friday Night was Tapas night from 5pm we decided to give it a go!!

The blackboard advertises that you can call and book a table or just walk in - last booking 7.45pm so when I got home the OH gave a call and tried to book a table for 7.45pm, the lady that answered the phone was not keen on giving us 7.45pm so asked if we could make it 7.30pm and after a little negotiation we managed to agree on 7.35pm so it was a bit of a surprise when we arrived to find only one other couple in the place!! (although another couple did walk in at 7.45pm but had not booked however were still served).

There are various options of set menus or a la carte for the tapas and we settled on going a la cart.

The wine which we chose was excellent and complimented our choice of food exceptionally well, once it had arrived. The service is on the slow side and not necessarily in the order which you arrive and place your order - the couple that arrived 10 minutes after us were served their tapas before us

The tapas was nice although a couple of the dishes were not to our expectation however overall tasty and we did manage to eat everything.

Although I cannot see us becoming regulars on a Friday night, as the menu is not extensive enough, we would go back on a evening out with friends.

For a night out with a difference in Retford this ticks the box.

Had barely taken our seat when we were asked to order, we hadn't even seen the menu at this point, we asked for a moment or two longer to read the menu and the waitress returned about a minute later to again ask for our order, felt very hassled.

Two glasses of water took 15 minutes. Sharing plater of meat and cheese took 40 minutes to arrive and really wasn't up to much. £17 is very expensive for something that was not much more than an appetiser and why serve in 3's to two people? Left feeling hungry and annoyed at having wasted most of our lunch break waiting for a poor snack.

Don't recommend at all.

It has the feel of a canteen or greasy spoon inside due to the echoing sound of cutlery being sorted and other clanking noises behind the counter. Added to that, conversations and children screaming and shouting, all echoing, make it an extremely noisy place.

We had barely sat down and I had only just picked up the menu when a waitress appeared to take our order, rather difficult for us due to the fact that I hadn't read it yet and my husband had to wait for me to decide before he could see the menu for himself. We asked her for a moment to look at it, that literally was all we got too, a moment before she appeared again asking for our order. We didn't really get a chance to see the specials boards as they are placed behind other tables so short of asking other diners to move so we could read what was there... well, you get the idea. We ordered a deli sharing platter of cold meats and cheeses plus two glasses of water.

After 15 minutes our bottles of water turned up. It took a further 25 minutes for our meal, so 40 minutes for cold meat and cheese on a board. The food itself was ok, it wasn't anything special but quite edible, the infused oil for the bread rolls was disgusting. It wasn't so much infused as a dish of olive oil with a teaspoon of herbs dumped in it so the result was that it only tasted of olive oil. As the olives and sundried tomatoes were all drenched in it too there was a serious plain olive oil overload. Luckily there were 3 balsamic onions to try and cut through it. It didn't work.

All in all, for pence under £17 for the platter and £3 for two waters we were not impressed. I've had more substantial starters for less money that have been much better. Granted a 15 minute wait for water and 40 minute wait for the food didn't really do much to improve our disposition.

Don't recommend and doubtful we will return.

We used to love Deli & Dine, especially the old place. We've continued eating and shopping at the new location at least a couple of times a month and we travel over 10 miles to get there. They use excellent food from local producers but have lost the knowledge of how to cook it!

On recent visits when we have eaten there the waiting staff are slow and unfriendly to the point of rude. There are new faces and the previous service and friendliness seems to have been lost.

We had breakfast there on a quiet Saturday 2 weeks ago and were ignored by the waiting staff until we had to ask someone to take our order. The restaurant wasn't at all busy at the time. Our bacon sandwiches arrived in a couple of minutes, the bacon was warm but had been cooked for such a short time the fat was still white and slimy. We pulled the fat off the meat and ate the sandwiches but they weren't nice. When we paid we said it had been a poor experience, one of the managers overheard and listened in. He said 'I'll have a word in the kitchen'. Not 'Sorry'. When it's wrong I just want someone to say sorry.

We've been loyal customers for many years but the combination of bad service and terrible cooking has put me off. I'll be eating and shopping elsewhere in Retford from now on.
