“Clean and Friendly”

Dagley cottage is great little cottage close to Guildford. The Caravan park is a bit off- putting when you first arrive, as it is for the elderly, it is very quiet. The Caravan just opposite the kitchen window is a bit of an eye sore.
I like really peaceful places, this is not for you, for me, the cottage was noisy. There is a constant flow of: dog walkers, cyclist, walkers, runners, and delivery vehicles for the caravan park, who pass right in front of the kitchen/living room window, for my family this was disturbing and annoying.
The Owner was lovely and very accommodating The finish of the interior was excellent and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The oven is miserable, and we hate microwave food. Getting the oven to work was tiresome and we gave up in the end

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of Dagley Cottage and for your positive feedback about the interior and the level of cleanliness.
I’m sorry that the setting didn’t meet your expectations and so I’d like to address each of the points you raise.
We are next to a caravan park - to be more accurate it is a park with approx. 30 static caravans which are for more senior residents only (I think you have to be 60+ to live there). They are permanent residents and are very polite and quiet neighbours. The entrance to the caravan park is next to the gate to the cottage, but you can't see any of the static caravans from the cottage or the garden.
This year, there has been a mobile caravan parked on land just outside the caravan park which is visible from the kitchen window. It comes and goes and belongs to one of the residents who do lots of trips away. I agree that it is not ideal as a view, but it is only from this one window if you are standing at the kitchen sink and it is not there all of the time.
I was very surprised about the comments about the cottage not being quiet - as far as I know this is the first time in two years of successful renting that I have had anyone comment on this, generally I get the opposite feedback and have had many compliments about the quiet setting. The cottage is not in a remote location, on the contrary it benefits from being on the edge of a busy village with pubs, shops and a café within a short walk. But it also has the Surrey countryside very close by – the bridle path that runs alongside the boundary to the cottage gives direct access to explore the landscape and it is enjoyed by many on foot, on bicycles and out walking their dogs. For us, this is a key attraction to living here – having both amenities and the countryside within easy reach and without having to get into a car.
The kitchen is small and does not have space for a full sized oven. Instead it has a small combination oven that looks like a microwave but can also be used as a grill or a conventional oven. I agree that operating the oven was not simple or intuitive and this was not helped by the over complicated and wordy instructions in the manual. Since your visit I have written a set of bullet points to guide guests through each of the three functions and these fit on a single piece of paper making it much simpler to use.

“Fantastic for a couple!”
Reviewed 20 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Communication throughout the booking process was very good.

We were met on arrival by Joanna who gave us a brief tour of the cottage and the secure parking area. We'd requested that an extra person stay with us for two nights, I paid this on arrival. We were given bedding and a towel and told the futon mattress was under the bed.

I confess to being rather shocked when I seen what they had to sleep on, I'd assumed one of the settees would fold out, not a mattress on the floor.

Other than that we had an excellent time at the cottage and surrounding area. There's some nice pubs within walking distance, we liked the Parrott on Horsham Rd, family ran, friendly, fab food.

Hello Caz
Thank you for taking the time to write your review.
I'm sorry that the extra bed didn't meet your expectations. I've had a look at the description for the cottage and amended it to make it clearer about the two types of extra bed that we can offer, so I hope this will be helpful to future guests.
All the best.

“Perfect honeymoon cottage”
Reviewed 11 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Oh my, what a wonderful cottage and what a perfect location.
Everything we could have possibly wanted for our honeymoon in this lovely holiday home and the goodies on arrival were so welcome. The location was perfect, with pubs serving great food and shops within a very short walk to buy bits and pieces.

This for us was a perfect location, and the fact that we had the most perfect weather (possibly the only summer we might have in 2016) was the icing on the cake. The walks along the canal / navigation into Guildford and Godalming were so pretty and close by were several National Trust properties.

Wonderful memories, and perfect hosts. Would recommend and love to visit again.
Thank you.

(Plenty of entertainment to be had, working out how to work the oven; never did crack that one!)

Many thanks for your lovely review. I've had other guests comment about trying to work out the oven - it is certainly not intuitive. So I shall endeavour to write my own instructions and hope that they are clearer for guests than the ones that came with the instruction manual!
Do hope we see you again, perhaps for an anniversary celebration in the future. All the best.

“Comfortable and cosy cottage with tons of character.”
Reviewed 3 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We are currently staying in the cottage for 12 days and after arriving from a Southern Hemisphere summer we have been snuggly warm with the central heating and the use of the open fireplace which adds to the ambience.
The cottage is as it looks in the photos and a good size for two with room to move. Great shower and comfy bed and good sofas for lying around on on a rainy day.
Great location with 2 pubs serving food and a Thai restaurant all within 5 mins walk and Guildford is only 10 mins walk if you need a shopping fix.
It was lovely to arrive on the first evening to find the cottage warm and a welcome pack with breakfast supplies and biscuits so didn't have to rush out in the morning .
Would highly recommend Dagley cottage.

“Wonderful stay in a cosy cottage”
Reviewed 21 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Me & my partner stayed at the picturesque Dagley Cottage for 2 nights & I must say it was better than we hoped for!!

Lovely pubs & restaurants within walking distance as well as a local shop, which stocks everything you could possibly want. We visited The Seahorse Pub & Thai Terrace restaurant (both serve quality food)

We also went for a walk through Chantry Woods which boasts some amazing views of the North Downs.

In addition, the cottage is bigger than the photos suggest.

All in all I would definitely say this cottage is worth a visit
