Winterton Country Lodge at Rose Cottage

The lodge is in a very attractive setting and Brian and Roseanne were very welcoming. We originally booked for 2 nights, but regrettably at short-notice we had to change our plans to stay for just one, which they kindly agreed to without hesitation. We wished we could have stayed longer. The grounds are delightful with friendly dogs, cats and a small menagerie. Although not luxurious, the room we had was large and well equipped with shady parking right out-side the room. It was outstanding value for money. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks from the honesty bar in the lovely lounge. The only slight (but very minor) down side was that wi-fi wasn't available in the room, but it worked perfectly well from the patio. We took the option of the home-cooked set three-course dinner, which was nicely presented and very tasty (R180 pp). Full breakfast was also a treat. Very well located for exploring the Drakensberg and a most pleasant stay.

A good stopping off point on our whistle stop tour of South Africa. Staff extremely helpful and guest house facilities very good. Garden surroundings made for a pleasant ambiance with even wildlife visible from the grounds.

When we arrived, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the place. Brian greeted us warmly and took us to our very pleasant room. I had contacted Rose Cottage a couple of days before our arrival to book an evening meal and Rozanne replied, checking if we had any dietary requirements. I would certainly recommend doing this as the quality and presentation of the meals was excellent, as were the breakfasts. When we needed advice on where to go, both were very helpful. We found that staying here was ideal because, although it meant driving to the three major areas ie Champagne Valley, Cathedral Peak and the Royal Natal National Park you were travelling on different roads each time and seeing a variety scenery. Brian and Rozanne were extremely friendly and attentive hosts and we would certainly recommend Rose Cottage. Many thanks. Ian and Jean

We had a lovely 3 night stay here. Brian and his two lovely ladies are delightful hosts and can't do enough to make one feel welcome. When my wife was unwell for a day, they were so concerned and helpful, providing 'invalid food' and a lot of care.
Our room, in a separate block from the main cottage, was very comfortable, with a good firm bed, comfy chairs, and a screened-off corner bath with shower over. The only slight niggle is that the wash basin is not screened and is visible through the net curtains from the front garden area.
The gardens are lovely, with a small but pleasant pool and very pleasant sun lounger area.
The sitting and dining room area is charming and very comfortable, there is a well-stocked honesty bar, and the food is excellent (both breakfast and dinner).
The Drakensberg northern and central areas are both within easy driving distance of this great base.

We had a lovely time at Winterton Country Lodge! Brian is very knowledgeable of their environment and had very good suggestions of where to go which we appreciated. The food was divine and our room lovely and spacious. I will definitely visit again.
