“Golfing resort in the moutains - wow!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2012

A spectacular golf course, with the Drakenburg in the background. The unit we stayed in was great - 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms. Spacious living area and nice braai area. Had two minor issues - loose plug cover and forgotten code for the safe - which were dealt with very quickly.
Golf course is great. The carts are equipped with GPS's - nice, but a bad habit to get used to. would not try walking this course. Nice fairways and greens. Does have a habit of eating golf balls if you wander too far off course.

Had opportunity to stay here as a delegate at a conference. Superb in all respects, staff extremely courteous and friendly. All food was brilliant - breakfasts extensive buffet style, lots on offer and mostly pretty tasty. For dinner we had a braai around the pool one night, and a gala dinner in the Sentinel function room the other. The braai offered THE most tasty and tender meat (lamb chops and steak) I have ever had. And lots of other choice too - line fish, chicken, salads etc. The dinner was good but pretty standard fare for a conference dinner. Accommodation was superb - all hotel rooms face the spectacular and dominant views of Caithkin Peak and Champagne Castle. Ask for an upstairs room - views even better than on the ground floor. Conference facilities amongst the best I have experienced anywhere in the world. Didn't play golf (unfortunately) but the course is absolutely beautiful, and the time share cottages dotted all over looked inviting for a family holiday. A great location for lots of Drakensberg activities, and all the famous 'R600' places/activities including the Drakensberg Boys Choir school, concerts every Wednesday starting mid February. This is a world class resort in probably some of the most superb mountain scenery in the world. Refreshing and relaxing. Only drawback - expensive (in my opinion).

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room, away from the conference centre (which may be noisy)

They lost my bags for over an hour and a half which resulted in me being late for a meeting. All i got was an apology and the justification that "things happen". I askee for compensation and was offered nothing at all, not the slightest gesture. I had another incident with by door not opening whih resulted in me waiting for close to 20 minutes before anyone showed up. The food was appalling as well, actually quite shocking. The setting is nice though. But overall, you do get the feeling that the place is past its prime. Almost feels soviet. I would never recommend this place for business or a romantic outing. There is much better out there at comparable prices. Skip.

I stayed here with my family in July 2011 for a weekend. We were seven adults and occupied four rooms in this lovely hotel. Check in was easy and we found clean spacious rooms with the most beautiful view from our rooms.

There was lots of activities to keep us occupied. We played table tennis and putt putt, bingo at the pool (which I won!!). We went for full body massages at the spa and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The biggest draw card and the reason why we would return here is the delicious food!! Lovely full breakfasts of anything your heart desires! And the dinners were even better!! We particularly liked the fresh fish station where the chefs prepared your fish to your liking, as well as the stir fry station where you can custom make your own stir fry. Wide variety of salads and curries and carvery.... It catered to all tastes, even my mum who is vegetarian!

On the chilly evenings we went to sit in the lounge where a lovely log fire was burning. their bar was also a nice hangout. This is a perfect place to go to for a family vacation: stunning scenery, great food, good family fun!

Just great location, great food, even free wifi in the common areas. Good value for money, given the very high quality of all the facilities.

I had the pleasure of speaking at a conference at this wonderful hotel. It was a bit of a nightmare getting there with all the roadworks, but it was worth it.
The views are stunning, looking our at the sunrise and sunset from our balcony was breathtaking.
Spoil yourself in the spa or play almost any sport or just enjoy the pool.
The food and staff were wonderful and it was relaxing. I will definitely return.

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the mountains and pool.

Our fourth visit to Champagne - resort appears to have expanded with more priority being given to hotel guests rather than timeshare, but overall a great resort. Disappointing that could not play golf at weekend due to block booking for a tournament, followed by late night noise when a large company with 600 guests stayed for 2 nights.

Room Tip: Suggest a chalet with views overlooking golf course.
