Fantastic family holiday. The rooms are a little dated and noisy, but still great value. The staff without exception are efficient and very friendly - they come across as a very 'happy team'. The food quality and variety is excellent. The walks are stunning, and the paths are maintained in good condition and are litter free. Plenty of activities for kids and adults alike, or just a great place to chill if you are less active. Our kids have travelled a lot (11 and 13 yrs old), and to them this was their BEST holiday ever. It is safe to let them go and do their own thing, and we hardly saw them! There is a boating and fishing dam on the property, a games room, and horse riding and a Canopy Tour close by. The hotel is also very Eco friendly. Hats off to the management and staff - certainly one of the nicest places for a family to unwind, as it caters for absolutely everybody. We have already booked our next holiday there!

Room Tip: Superb resort for a family vacation. The hotel is little dated, and one can hear the rooms next door. The service however, makes this resort stand out heads and shoulders above others. Staff without exception are extremely efficient and friendly. Ideal resort for kids, with wonderful walks, fishing and boating dam, pools and many other activities. Canopy tour and horse riding close by as well. Food qualityand variety is very good! Our kids who have travelled quite a lot, regarded this as their BEST holiday ever! No matter if you want to be active, or just relax and read a book, this is the ideal place to unwind. Also, a very Eco-firendly hotel, and they have put a lot of effort into keeping the paths on the walks in good condition and litter free! Overall impression was friendly and happy team, running a great resort in a stunning location.

a disappointing weekend that was on a dinner, bed, breakfast basis. more especially from the food angle. staff are attentive & helpful. kudoos to them. fantastic for kids. 6year old grand-daughter with be back, minus the writer (grandpa). She loved the well planned activities.
try opening the basin taps as well as the bath taps in room 219. my wrists are still sore. the 1st huge shock was the monster of the TV that seems to dominate the room reminding one of the PW era, when TVs were 1st introduced into S.A.
the food is disappointing. 10 years ago they served trout as it should be. nowadays it is grilled in half soaked with oil on the actual flesh so when u eat you get to taste the oil & not the fish!! my poached eggs had to be redone as the first lot were cooked HARD.Deserts choice was fine.
Oh , the lighting in the rooms. we got in when it was dark & to find the switches became a mission. managed finally to locate ahe switch on the running cable of the bed side lamp & promptly dived for the other now knowing where it should be.it took another 10 persistent minutes locating this one as it was not at the same place where the other was. & i'm not telling where i found it. you try your luck.
at best, i think this is suitable if u have kids 5-10 that need to play as there are enough activities that the may enjoy. but if you're honeymooning or couples then do look at other resorts.

This resort is just getting better and better. Staff are really helpful and a pleasure to deal with from check-in to check-out. Hotel restaurant offers a nice variety of foods to cater for most tastes. Rooms and hotel are well maintained. If you have kids there is a lot for them todo on a daily basis.

We stayed at the Drakensberg Sun Hotel in March 2012. This has been our 7th visit there spanning over several decades. Everyone was very friendly and the breakfasts were awesome. We enjoyed the suppers as well and the variety was endless. The pub needs some more character and we could recommend that you arrange internet hot spots! Another shortcoming was no fridge in the rooms. The room was very pleasant with adequate TV viewing and the double beds were comfortable. The walks in the forest were soul invigorating. We would love to spend another few days there in the future.

Room Tip: We had a top story room so no monkeys or too much children noises

We stayed at the Drak Sun from the 21 - 24 March 2012, and it was excellent. Our rooms on the ground floor was spacious, clean. Linen was very nice as well. The staff at reception during check in was a pleasure, they had welcoming smiles and were genuine abt good service. The gardens are well kept and plenty to do for the kids...Our 5 year old really njoyed herself. There are jungle gyms, trampoline, volleyball courts, tennis courts, squash courts, enetertainment centre with pool table, table tennis and soccer table, canoeing on the lake, pedal boats, best part all is free to use.. Rooms nedd to be updated, We were lucky our room had an LCD, the other rooms all had the old 51 cm TVs. They should update the tvs and do some facial changes to the rooms. The breakfast and dinner buffet was exception. Trout preapeared for u as you wait was amazing. Breakfast crumpets was very godd, light and fluffy. The currys offered for supper was a proper natal curry. Waiters at the restaurant are not very friendly and helpfulf. they tend not to smile, and frown alot when you ask for the basics, this really needs to improve. Went horse riding which cost R115.00 for a 1hour, they dont overcharge for activities. Visited Four River Adventures, which is abt 10km from the resort and that was very good, if you are adventourus. Quad biking on an 800 m track on really rough terrain was R100.00 for 4 laps, zip lining was R50.00, really great value for money
