“The Nest, Drakensburg”

We booked at the Nest having heard it was a great family holiday resort. We were paying in peak season R3600 for 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and 13.We found the staff friendly BUT the hotel is very run down and the so called newly decorated rooms were terrible. We had 1 bathroom between 4 to share which was tiny and seedy and the childrens room was up stairs which were trecherous to say the least. The mattress and bedding needs upgrading as well. The food was a strong reminder of boarding school in the 70's. We moved to Cathedral Peak Hotel which should be made a 5 star hotel and The Nest should be downgraded to a 1or 2 star.Pricing should also be adjusted accordingly.

Room Tip: Don't book the family rooms with a bedroom upstairs as the people downstairs hear every footstep...

The service of all the staff was fantastic from the moment we got there. The food was exceptional, and both my son and I enjoyed the variety. I loved that 3 meals and 2 teas were included in the cost - it was great value for money.

The relaxed environment made our stay extremely pleasant. I will recommend The Nest to all my friends, and will want to return in future.

Some of the photos and pictures on the walls are old and shabby, and I would recommend that some more up to date and less shabby pitures and photos are used - the old photos detracted from the character of The Nest.

Room Tip: We had a room with a mountain view, but it made no difference as we spent very little time in our ro...

I was looking for a place to have a peaceful relaxing time. The Nest offered this and more. It is well located to other activities should you wish to explore. We did not have to leave the hotel to go to any shops, as everything needed was provided for and more. The food menu is something to remember. Thank you for an amazing stay. I look forward to visiting The Nest again in the near future.

We had a super break at The Nest, excellent food, extremely caring staff and in such beautiful surroundings. We came back feeling relaxed and rested and determined to go back for a return visit.

What a weekend it was !!! THANK YOU guys for your awesomeness and fantastic stay at THE NEST. Once a year i treat myself to a weekend away on my own- to do as little possible but to thank my Maker for all my blessings- family, friends, love, life . . to wonder around in little hide-away shops and purchase gifts for those i love so dearly and sometimes neglect because of demanding work. This year i found THE NEST and it was perfect perfect for me- magnificent mountain views, fresh air, great food, happy faces . . . aagghh, a buffet for the soul !!

To ALL that made my stay so brilliant- THANK YOU from my heart. I will be back early in the new year - perhaps a break twice a year is not a bad idea.

Best wishes
Rose Willemse

Staying at the Nest hotel was a very wonderful experience. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. One really feels at home and appreciated.
The food is excellent, and the dining area is very welcoming and well set. The staff are courteous and friendly, always smiling and welcoming. I was completely blow away by the surroundings, definitely one of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I enjoyed the hike in the nature reserve, and relaxed in the hotel pool.
We will definitely be back, and already recommending the Nest to our friends. Definitely value for money.
