A much anticipated 2 days stay turned into a real disappointment (resulting in an early departure). The first one being that this hotel is some distance from the mountains with unfortunately none of the spectacular views. Although the colonial mansion and the gardens are beautiful, there is a tired feel to it and the decor and amenities are outdated (a cappuccino machine is surely a basic in this day and age). The meals are uninspiring, and the staff not well-trained although everyone was very friendly. The chalets are in urgent need of a make-over and a hair dryer should be a standard item in the room.
Although there is great potential for this resort, unfortunately at this stage it is not recommended.

This is a well-known Resort in the Drakensberg and definitely well worth the stay. The service was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The food was impeccable and the traditional Easter braai was the highlight of our weekend. The effort that was made in terms of having a full program for children and adults alike was really great and I must commend the staff on their efforts (variety of games, Easter egg hunt, dance, hikes, traditional dancing by the staff, bowling clinic, etc.) The room was comfortable and private and was perfect for a 3 Star. If you are looking for something more fancy, then you need to book into a 4 or 5 Star.

Don't waste tour time. Really. Have no idea how anyone could gives this more than 1 star. Outdated, poorly organized, small dingy rooms in dire near if updating. The food reminded one of boarding school and many guests were bitten by bed bugs/lice of some description.

This is an old fashioned resort hotel beautifully located close to the Drakensberg Mountains. Virtually all country pursuits available: walking, mountaineering, horseriding; plus tennis, and three excellent bowling greens. Indeed the Resort specialises in bowling tours and has being doing so for many years. Some of the rooms have been refurbished and these are the ones to go to. Food is wholesome and plenty, country cooking. Owner and staff very friendly and hospitable. Sociable atmosphere. Good for holidays and excellent for groups. Very good value.

Room Tip: Go for one of the newly refurbished rooms with a mountain view

Wow, another excellent stay at The Nest Hotel. This hotel continues to please its guests. We were booked into standard rooms, but on arrival we upgraded at no charge to their superb mountain facing rooms. The rooms are newly decorated and renovated bathrooms with good facilities. The food served in the dining room was again the best part of our stay! The food is cooked home-style, it's incredibly tasty and fresh with most vegetables freshly picked from the hotels own vegetable garden. The food is seriously unbeatable! Congratulations to the owner, Mr. Willie Germon and his team for yet again providing us with an excellent experience in this paradise of the Drakensberg.

We had a lovely stay at the Nest Hotel this past December. The rooms were nicely furnished and comfortable; the staff were soo warm, friendly and helpful and the food was FANTASTIC!! There is so much to do and the surroundings are beautiful. Every inch of the gardens and facilities is extremely well maintained. It is clear that Mr Germann senior is back and he is keeping his finger on the pulse of this well loved family resort. We visit different Drakensberg resorts almost every year and the Nest is one of the few that has retained its warmth and old world feel whilst maintaining high standards of service. What a pleasure to stay here!!!

This family hotel situated in the central Drakensberg offers unbeatable value for money. It exudes an 'old world charm', but has all the modern facilities which we've become reliant upon. The service is excellent. The staff are friendly and accommodating in all respects. The food is the best home-style cooked food that you could wish for, it's always fresh and it's healthy with great portions. The hotel is a great place to relax and forget about the pressures of day-to-life.
