VIK Hotel San Antonio
Ranked #26 of 91 Hotels in Puerto Del Carmen
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Firstly I concur entirely with all the positive comments about the San Antonio and on the whole my wife and I had a lovely week.
But no point in writing a review without finding some points that could be improved.
We chose the all inclusive option and had to endure the totally tiresome chore of continuously signing for everything including having the restaurant 'manager' standing on your shoulder and insisting you sign his book even if you are eating. A somewhat annoying individual to say the least. The A/I option at the bar results in you being treated as a second class customer as you appear to wait until the preferred cash customers have there drinks before the staff will serve you. You will also have the embarrassment of being told what you can or more importantly cannot have to drink on the board option. Don't ask for a Guinness (even though its a beer) as you cant have one. The list goes on............................
A nice hotel and a nice time had but sort out the A/I option, stop treating customers as second class and arrange some training for the minority of staff who let the rest down.
A massive thank you to the room cleaning staff (second floor) who were brilliant.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments, they are very important for us, and we hope that for our future guests too.

We note that in general you spent a good holidays in our hotel and we are very pleased about that. Regarding your comments about the all inclusive, we regret to know that you were disappointed with the system we use, but we think that the Vik San Antonio hotel is not the typical all inclusive hotel for using a bracelet, and we prefer to control the cost signing the orders, sorry if this was annoying for you.

Thank you again for your time and we hope to see you again in our hotel in a near future.

Kind regards

Lovely hotel and staff very welcoming. Shame cannot get flights from Stanstead or I would definitely return. Even Luton don't seem to be included in flight list, just fly out of Ireland now. Could travel independent but much more expensive that way.

Room Tip: Ask for room above ground level facing on to pool

My wife and i regularly stay in this hotel and as a couple touching 40 it really gives us what we are looking for.
The hotel itself has a great pool area and is right on the beach. The food is the best part of the hotel and as half board residents we looked forward to breskfast and dinner every day.
Location has plenty of pubs and restaurants around and we really enjoyed some drinks and tapas in Woodleys just 5 minutes walk from the hotel which gets the sun all day.
We always enjoy our stay in the San Antonio in Lanzarote.

We stayed here last year about the same time and gave a glowing report on this hotel which was well deserved, and promised we would be back. We just spent another week here from the 6th of November. The hotel is just on the outskirts of Puerta Del Carmen about 5 minutes slow walk to the shopping centre, 30 minutes stroll to Matagorda and 30 minutes to the the port on the far side of Puerta Del Carmen. Right outside the hotel is a taxi rank and bus stop both of which are only a few euros to anywhere local and 10 or 11 euro to the airport. (bus every 20 minutes each way)
The food is well cooked and a good variety so there is always something even for the fussy eater, (to much fish for my taste but other than that, very good)the rooms are comfortable and most have a side sea view, largely the even numbered rooms get the sun in the morning and the odd numbered rooms get the sun from about 2pm till dusk.
The clientele of the hotel were definitely of the more mature variety (maybe just the time of year when the older generation holiday?), at 60 myself I felt like a youth here, and the evening entertainment is catered to that generation. So not recommended for people with kids
Sunbeds, loads of them but a lot of the clientele still practice the booking prime spots for the day with a towel.
The only downside I can find with the hotel are the price of drinks (1 pernod, 1 whiskey with lemonade = 12 euro .....7/8 euro in town). ..and some of the older staff, particularly in the dining room could be more professional /friendly, they seemed to be more interested in banter with each other than attending to their diners, ..maids, reception etc were superb.
Thumbs up to both the hotel and local authorities, we fortunately don’t have a problem, but the whole area caters well for wheelchairs, cyclists and is very clean and flat, there is even adverts everywhere for mobility scooter things, and a cycle hire shop 100 yrds down the road.
There is a small weekly charge for the usual, safe, fridge etc ..wifi is free and the tv has a few English speaking channels ..didnt stay in long enough to check them.
The day before we left the evening entertainment changed and looked like a step up.

Room Tip: try for the higher floors for better views, odd numbered rooms dont get sun till well after lunch an...

Our first visit was at Halloween time and we have rebooked for Valentines Day, we liked the place so much.
On arrival Reception explained the need for the VIK room cards to be carried at all times. On Tenerife it seems some visitors staying in apartments had arrived in a hotel dining room, made friends with the head waiter and dined free each night unchallenged.

The dining room here is buffet format and is large with four seating sections, plus tables outside if desired, and each section has two hard working teams of staff. The protocol is to pick a section and choose an empty table or hover until one becomes available.
Diners leave and the team pounce, the runners clear the table and remove the tablecloth then fit a new cloth, napkins, cutlery, glasses etc in the blink of an eye. A waiter appears, calmly sits you down, produces a wine list and takes your drinks order.
The wine and water are delivered and the team leader arrives, you show your hotel cards, he notes the room number completes his drinks record and you sign it. We dont get a copy but within minutes its on their computer. He's usually an older chap and may have poor English.
While he's writing his eyes are scouring his patch and controlling his team who by this time may have may have prepared three more tables, picked up dropped serviettes, replaced them and delivered drinks to the diners for him to write up.

The presentation of the food is quite outstanding, as others have reported. As we dine later some of the food trays may be almost emptied but a quick nod to the runner and that tray is quickly replaced with fresh hot food.
Our departure time was just after 6am and the dining room was available from 5am for us.

This rather large hotel standing on the edge of Puerto Del Carmen and the edge of the beach, offers all you could want of a hotel in Lanzarote.
Very clean and spacious with good size air con bedrooms, balcony, atlantic view and heated pools if you choose not to use the Atlantic.
Food served on a buffet system, very varied and even a special country or food type each night. Hard to eat with your mouth and not your eyes in this establishment. Be aware the hotel has been updated but is one of the original hotels on the island, so do not expect modern building with lots of glass ad glitz. You will get very nice staff and a very clean hotel in a wonderful position. If I had to complain it would be that the towels are not soft thick and fluffy in the bathrooms, although they are of good size.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room if you do not mind walking.
