Sol Lanzarote All Inclusive
Ranked #29 of 91 Hotels in Puerto Del Carmen
Reviewed 19 May 2012

My girlfriend and I booked this holiday back in january, we had booked to stay in the Sol Lanzarote the first 2 weeks in May. Hotel staff were polite and efficient when we spoke to them,we even tried a bit of spanish on them, which went down well. First impressions of the room were, very clean, great size of bedroom and bathroom was huge. We went self catering and were equipped with 2 hob rings, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and a choice of plates cups glasses cutlery and utensils. We only used the kitchen once as we preferred to eat out. We found a nice wee pub about 10 minutes walk from the hotel called'The Anchor Bar' its well worth a visit. We were in everyday for breakfast or dinner. We had a room overlooking the carpark at the front, with a partial sea view. Only noise was the buses reversing when collecting or dropping off travellers, but we didn't hear this too often as we only slept in the room and were out or beside the pool most of the day. Swimming pools were a good size. Use one of the showers next to the pool before getting in as it takes away the shock of the pool. The gardens were extremely well kept. There was always someone tending to the plants or clearing the area up. Rooms were cleaned everyday to a very high standard, beds were made, changed sheets every couple of days. Floors mopped and new towels every day. Maids always made the effort to say hello to you when you passed them. We went to the nighttime entertainment a few times, which was ok, not our cup of tea but when we walked by it seemed to be busy. The entertainment at the Anchor bar was more up our street. Shop in the spar close to the hotel as the shop at the hotel can be a bit more expensive and closes between 1-4pm. If you are given 2room cards for your door, keep one in the power slot so that your air conditioning stays on all day, it makes such a difference. Especially when we were there in the 40degree heatwave! We already know that were going back next year!

My Wife and I stayed at this Hotel in early May, it was our first experience of a European All-Inclusive vacation. Previously we have vacationed at many resorts in Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic so we weren't sure what to expect.
We were aware that this was not a high cost Hotel but we only wanted a quick break.
So my comments are based on a comparison of previous experiences.
First impression was that the reception staff did not make much effort to make us feel welcome, however they were efficient and changed our room with very little fuss when we asked for a room with a pool view.
The room was very good and quite large, clean
Compared to previous experiences the food choice was limited, but to be expected having paid a budget type price. A little repetitive, but we always found something to suit our tastes. We are wine drinkers and we had no problem getting a bottle of wine to take to our table at dinner.
We found the wait staff to be a little stand offish, every time we tried to make conversation they smiled but did not seem to want to do more.
Birds yes and cats in the restaurant but we did not witness any of them near food.
The snack bar choice was fair.
It seemed strange to us that even though we were all inclusive we had to sign a receipt every time we got a drink or a snack. Never had that before and nobody could explain why, I was a little wary thinking that I might have got a bill when checking out so I queried it at the reception desk and was told it was for administrative purposes. I realized that it didn't seem to matter what scribble I did on the receipt as nobody looked at it.
There was a full Cocktail menu at the bar but choice was limited to a Pina Colada on the all inclusive tariff strangely enough, anything else had to be purchased, very different from previous vacations.
We expected to have drinks in plastic cups around the pool but they were much smaller that those we have had previously, probably half the size. There is a notice on the bar stating that one drink per person would be served to all inclusive guests, but this was ignored by customers and staff. Having said that the cups were too flimsy to carry more than three at a time so numerous trips were required as the small cupfuls did not last long - for us anyway!
Entertainment was reasonable, my only comment would be that there were many kids allowed to stay up and watch the adult shows, but no real problem.
We found the pool to be cold but swimmable and quite a nice change after some of the pools that feel like bathwater in the Caribbean, I don't really understand why there are so many complaints on this forum as people were using the pool all the time.
Never any shortage of sunbeds around the pool.
With the all inclusive tariff pool towels are available, but remember to take them back before 5:00pm before you leave or you have to pay if you don't have your towel cards to hand back.
The sea was definitely cold.
If you want a sunbed on the beach you have to pay.
Very easy to stroll from the Hotel onto the beach. The beach area immediately in front of the Hotel was nice, it took a little getting used to the dark sand. When the tide was out the beaches were not to our eyes very picturesque as the receding tide exposed rocks and seaweed, I have to admit that this is a very subjective opinion.
The grounds were very clean and well kept.
Only one a la carte restaurant on the site and that was not included in our all inclusive. There seemed to be very few people using it.
Withing easy strolling distance of the Hotel there was a shopping/restaraunt complex which was very nice, plenty of choices or eateries and good prices.
The Mexican was very good.
As mentioned in a previous review the Spar shop within walking distance of the Hotel is very good and very reasonable, cheaper than the Hotel shop. The wine we were drinking in the Hotel was being sold for 2.65 euros!
Very nice promenade in front of the Hotel and if you wish you can walk for miles.
We had booked our hire car through Co-operative travel at a good price compared to online prices I found including third party insurance. However when we picked it up we had the hard sell of getting fully comp insurance. We were told how expensive it would be if the car broke down or was in an accident and had to be towed. As I didn't want to take any risks I opted to pay the extra. Then on top of this was the cost of full tank of petrol. So I ended up paying twice as much as I expected.
We drove all around the Island including a trip to the Volcano and still only used half a tank, so as a tip don't pay up front for your petrol.
There are trips you can book to see the Volcano at Timanfaya National Park, but I would advise if you have a car to go yourself, it only costs 8 euros each to get in which includes the coach trip around the Park, the same one that the organized trippers go on. It is very worthwhile doing this trip and if you have any problems walking you don't have to be concerned there is very little involved. Just a walk from the car to the bus.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view when you book, follow it up with an email. When you check in they may insist you...

Dear Michiganman1613,

Thank you for sharing your experience at Sol Lanzarote. We are very pleased to read you had a good holiday break.
The reason for the receipts for all inclusive guests is to keep control as they explained you at the reception. You also wrote some good tips for our (future) guests, it is very nice of you to share these.

I hope we can welcome you again.

This place was unbelievable, I have stayed in many an all inclusive in Mexico, Bahamas and Thailand, so you can gauge my report.
The staff were helpful, friendly and polite, the room was cleaned every day even though we were self catering.
The pool is slightly small but does the job, the sea and beach is a stones through away.
The promenade goes all the way from Carmen to Arrecife so the walks are great.
The local bars and pubs are welcoming and extremely cheap, beer 1.80 euros and food about 5 euros for simple foods.
The only thing that ruins this place is the companies going all inclusive which is ruining local businesses and closing some down.
I plan to return year after year :))))

Our first impressions weren't great but after a day or two we came to like these apartments a little more. They are clean, the bathroom was spacious and the kitchenette although small was sufficient. The balcony was quite small too.
The plus points were it's great location, literally on the beach and a lot of great bars and shops within 5 minute walk. After 3/4 days we stopped going into Puerto Del Carmen (which was only 5 euro in a taxi) and just ate at the bars near the hotel.
We weren't all inclusive and we were glad because the food looked pretty grim.
Family discos, entertainment and kids club all make this hotel a great place for the kids.
Handy to Puerto Del Carmen and also the airport.

Room Tip: Seaview upgrade worthwhile Don't upgrade to the Flintstone themed rooms as they looked pretty p...

We have been going to Sol lanzarote for the last 5 years. Our son was 11 when we first went.
He is severely disabled and wheelchair bound. We cannot thank the staff enough for the way they have treated our son on each visit. They know his name, his likes and dislikes. It doesnt matter to us about plastic glasses, cold swimming pools. It is the kindness of the staff, receptionists, waiter's, waitresses, the lovely lady that cleans the room. Its the welcome we get each time we come back. The Sol lanzarote is a special place and we can't wait for xmax 2012
til we back again. Big kiss to Carlos xxxx

We came with a large group of friends and family, some disabled. We had a very nice apartment with space for wheelchair, though not an accessible bathroom. Lovely gardens, though pool was too cold to swim in. Enjoyed the walk along the promenade, down to the back of the airport to watch the planes land and take off, and a longer walk the other way to Puerto del Carmen. There was a lot of choice of food, great cheese and bread, steaks and fish on grill were good, also pasta. Sometimes it was a bit hit and miss, but there was always a good choice. Staff were friendly and very helpful .Felt that being served drinks in plastic cups was a bit like being a second class citizen (all inclusive) as people who paid for their drinks had proper glasses and ceramic cups and saucers! However, enjoyed all of the holiday until the last day when our party were not allowed to eat lunch. We were all inclusive and arrived at the hotel around 9pm on the first night, so presumed we could have lunch on the last day as our flight was not until 8pm. We were told to leave the restuarant, even after explaining that our children (in wheelchairs) would not have anything to eat until we arrived back in the UK around midnight! My child can only eat pureed or mashed food and I was unable to get anything for him to eat. He had only had one weetabix at breakfast. We tried to explain to the Manager, and but they would not budge. The hotel restaurant was very quiet and we were not taking up anyone's space. There was a huge amount of food, but obviously they were happy to dispose of it rather than feed disabled children.
We were very upset and embarrased about it all. My son only had chocolate buttons to eat and I was very disappointed despite enjoying the previous few days.
