“Lovely hotel; shame about the location”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

We travelled to Lanzarote for the first time in July 2014 and stayed in the Jameos Playa because the trip advisor reviews were so good so we hoped for a good holiday. Firstly, the hotel did deliver a very good standard. Checking in was very slick and the reception staff were never short of excellent throughout the stay. We have taken a C category room which was a large double with an extra full-size single for our son which it took comfortably. The C cat rooms are more expensive than standard As or Bs and have large balconies with 2 nice sun loungers and the usual table and chairs. There was a washing line too - but packs pegs: IT IS WINDY! The balcony sun beds were a huge bonus as we found in a hotel of over 5 hundred rooms, it proved VERY difficult to find sun beds together in the grounds - or even a single one here or there - during the day. Most guests are out very early to claim theirs and we never saw any staff removing towels. My advice would definitely be choose a C category room as some balconies were very small with poor views.
The bathroom was fine and the rooms were very clean indeed. The hotel is low rise - I think 4 floors only - but spread over a large site and rather than carpeted corridors, the hallways are tiled which could prove quite noisy as kids and high heels clinked along late at night. Our beds were very firm and we asked for extra pillows - which were delivered within ten minutes.
There are a few little shops within the buildings and the dining area spreads outside too so you can eat alfresco if that appeals to you. The buffet restaurant has starters and puds inside and the cooking of all the mains outside - my husband in particular found the quality of the various steaks and meats very good. The hotel grounds are very attractive and there's a gym and various other "wellbeing" areas we didn't visit. There are two pools outside - a heated and unheated but in truth the "heated" really was so cold there were days we couldn't face it. That was a disappointment. There's a small spa store close by and about 10-15 cafes/small shops at the hotel but (and here's the killer) despite being fit folk who love to walk on holiday we found that Puerto del Carmen was really too far away to make it feasible to walk into at night. We measured it in the car and it was a 10km round trip and although flat, that's a long long walk in the heat.
To be honest, we didn't really like Puerto del Carmen anyway - it caters for british (which we are!) - like a huge proportion of people there - mainly irish or british - but it's all cheap bars and low end cafes with the same cheap souvenir shops again and again. I would never go back. We hired a car and toured the island but compared to Tenerife, it's very bleak indeed. Calero was a lovely little harbour - very small but very pretty indeed and the submarine trip is based there which we all enjoyed. We did the famous architect's house/museum which was very enjoyable and interesting - but the second of his houses - the one in Haria closes at 14.30 so be warned!
In short - fab hotel but, for us, Lanzarote was a fairly dull place to visit and the weather was a bit grim at times - very windy and a good few very overcast days. You should know this if you are considering it; hotel-wise though, I'd recommend this place if you don't mind very cold pools - it's well run, clean and attractive.

Dear Seaside Los Jameos Playa Guest,

We wish to thank you for taking the time to share the impressions of your recent stay with us.

We are glad to hear that you found our hotel and services to be of a very good standard and that you enjoyed the comfort and the large balcony of your C type room.

Since we place great emphasis on offering an outstanding culinary experience to our guests, it gives us pleasure to hear that you appreciated the high quality of our gastronomy. Our Chefs will be happy to hear how much you enjoyed the freshly prepared steaks!

Our heated pool is maintained at a temperature of 24 degrees all year round, however the temperature may be perceived to be a little bit cooler on windy or cloudy days, as experienced on a few occasions throughout your stay.

From now on, during peak season we will handle the sunbed issue in a new way. All towels used to reserve sun loungers before 10.30 am will be removed. After that time reserved sunbeds will be marked in a certain way and if 60 minutes later those sunbeds are still not used, our staff will remove the towels completely. Furthermore we will make several more rounds throughout the day to monitor the reservation of sun loungers, except during lunch time.

Regarding the location of our hotel we would like to let you know, that it is not only close to the lively Puerto del Carmen, but also near to the beaches of Los Pocillos and Matagorda. Furthermore the marina of Puerto Calero is only 5 km away and well worth a visit, and the island's capital Arrecife can be reached by taxi or bus in only a few minutes.

We regret to hear that Lanzarote as a holiday destination did not match your personal preferences and expectations. However please be informed that the climate is similar to that of northern Africa, i.e. dry and warm, with an average yearly rainfall of only about five to six inches.

Again, thank you for your feedback and for recommending our hotel to the traveller community.

With kind regards,

Beate Reber-Sekula

We have just returned from a week in this hotel with my son, his partner and our little one-year old granddaughter. We have nothing but praise for the hotel. It is in a lovely location a few minutes from the sandy beach and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants however it is very quiet and set in pretty cactus-filled gardens with two pools. One of them is gently sloping and heated so ideal for toddlers. Our rooms were spacious and well-equipped and were kept immaculately clean by the maids. We had tea and coffee in the room and toiletries were provided and replenished during our stay. The bathrooms are modern and fitted with both showers and baths.
All the staff in the hotel were friendly and accommodating and were especially sweet with our granddaughter. The food is marvellous with so much choice at every meal and there are always items which can be cooked to order - steaks, chops, different fish and at breakfast, omelettes. All the food is fresh and beautifully presented and there is a different theme every night with food from different countries being served as well as roasted meats, pasta and many salads. The restaurant itself is designed so that you can eat inside, on the patio or overlooking the pool.
The children's entertainers work tirelessly and were very popular with the younger guests but the evening entertainment was also up to a high standard.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and were sad to leave after our week there.

This was my second time in Lanzarote, before I went to Playa Blanca and I must say that Los Jameos Playa in Puerto Del Carmen was a lot better! It was clean, had a great variety of food at each meal time and the staff were excellent in keeping us all entertained whilst also being very friendly! I must say Ivan in particular (a member of staff) was really socialble and always happy to get to know people. He was great fun and a great laugh as well as keeping us all entertained by the quirky dance moves, fabulous singing and slight cheekiness! All the staff let us engage in Swimming Pool games and aqua aerobics which was brilliant. The Hotel itself was also beautiful in a wonderful location with the sea just infront of you when staying there. Great location! Overall, I had a wonderful stay and I will be sure to come back again. Highly recommend this Hotel!

We had a smooth check in and were offered cava / orange juice on arrival. The hotel room was clean but we had a poor view from the balcony. We asked for a better view and changed our room a few days later. The food was the best we have had at an all inclusive hotel. Excellent selection of meat, fish, salad, cheese and desserts. It was nice to eat out on the terrace and enjoy the live music during our evening meal.
The children enjoyed the mini disco and miniclub. This is a nice hotel located near to the airport and the beach. The swimming pools were cold and this was disappointing. Overall the staff were very friendly and the service was good.

We are glad that our team could contribute to making your stay more comfortable and were able to offer you a room that perfectly matched your preferences.

We regret to hear that the temperature of our heated pool did not meet to your expectations. While our pool is heated to at least 24 degrees all year round, the temperature may be perceived to be a little cooler as we have experienced a few windy and cloudy days.

Your feedback is highly appreciated and we hope to have the privilege of being your host again in the near future.

Just back from 9 nights half board , 6th to 15th July. Had a great time. 2nd year in a row there. Slight hiccup on arrival when told our booking had been cancelled. Reception gave us room for the night and told us not to worry it would be sorted. Which it was next morning. Reception staff most helpful thanks. Food superb as lovely. Room spotless . Cleaned everyday. Mini club was really enjoyed by our small fella. Thanks to all staff for a lovely time

Just spent a lovely week at this hotel. Cava on arrival, smooth check-in, dinner still being served at 21.00. Fantastic food, high quality and cooked/presented beautifully, great service all week, occasionally had to wait a few minutes for a table but not an issue. Beautiful grounds, well maintained. The room was lovey and cleaned to a high standard daily. Pools are lovely. Great animation and entertainment. Didn't leave until 18.00 and a room was made available to us to shower before we left. Amazed this is not a 5 star!

We did have a problem getting sunbeds one day but asked at the towel booth and some were brought out for us within 15 minutes. Some guests are selfish, reserving beds all day and not using them at all, not sure what the hotel can do about this.

Lovely beach and Puerto del Carman a short stroll away.

Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We had a first floor room overlooking the pool, lovely.

Dear Susie,

Thank you for this friendly comment on Tripadvisor and for highlighting the fantastic food, the great service and the beautiful grounds.

It is wonderful to read that you and your family spent a lovely vacation and enjoyed all aspects of your stay with us.

Concerning the sun bed situation, we would like to let you know that during end of July and the whole of August we are implementing a stricter system in order to stop the reservation of sun loungers.

Again, thank you for sharing this lovely review. It would be a pleasure for us to welcome you back in the near future.

Warmest regards,

We stayed here in June for an AI short break. We asked for a room up-grade, luckily for us this was given for an extra charge. I am glad we did this as we had a lovely view of the pool area and sea, so it was worth the extra payment.

The room was fine with enough room for another bed (2 adults and 1 child) without being too small. The rooms were cleaned very well. There was a small fridge in the room which was very useful. There was a safe in the room but we were charged for the use of this.

The food was very good, lots of choice and fresh food cooked to order if you prefer. Upon check in, we were issued with a key card which you use for your room, food, drinks etc and we were told that you could be charged for other things that are not included in AI. We checked the drinks that were included in the AI as having already paid quite alot for a short AI break, we did not want to be charged extra for drinks.. The good thing is that there are local and international drinks with AI, likes of Gordons, Bacardi etc and soft branded drinks such as Sprite, Cola etc.

The restaurant staff were very attentive and provided good service.

Pool area was nice and you can be provided with pool towels upon the exchange of cards that are issued by reception. Good to know as it saves taking pool towels. There were lots of sunbeds near the pool or further away depending upn your prreference. The beach is across the road with a gate from the hotel. To get back in you need to use your room card and they have a nice touch such as a small fountain to wash your feet in with small towels provided.

Room Tip: up-grade to a pool and sea view it is worth it
