“Had a fantastic time...would def return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2009

We are both in mid twenties and went last summer to Cinco Plazas. The hotel is all on one site, with 3 groups of apartments. Each group of apartments are situated around a pool. The pool area was lovely and cleaned every morning. We managed to get sunloungers under the umbrella right outside our apartment.

Apartments:
Apartments were spacious, well presented and cleaned well. The maid changed & made beds, changed towels, washed floor/bathroom etc and even changed shower curtain in second week.
We did have 2 mini cockroaches in bathroom (from pipe by toilet). They were mini & due to grassy area behind apartments. I hate bugs, but they were so small & the maid put spray down. This solved the problem.
We were cool enough with the fan in bedroom. Only had CNN on tv as we didnt pay for it...we dont go on holiday to watch tv!!!

Location:
Spar next to hotel for shopping.
You need to walk down hill to beach and restaurants. Not a prob for us but could be if walking difficulties.
At bottom of hill is gorgeous beach and palm trees. There are shops and restaurants to left and right.

Restaurants/bars etc:
Recommend Spinnakers (irish) next to hotel above spar - vgood entertainement and fantastic food. Also regularly ate at 'The Royal' (right at bottom of hill). The brownie cake is lush!
Go to Cafe La Ola (left at bottom of hill). You can have drinks over looking sea - great atmosphere and surroundings.
Only ate in hotel once - food not bad.

Days out:
Recommend the Thomson trip to see Timanfaya (sp?) National Park: volcanoes, Playa blanca, camel ride, wine tasting, green lagoon. Fab tour guide and great day out.
The taxi boat to Puerto Calero (boat goes from harbour) is worth a visit. Nice restaurants in Puerto Calero.
If walk to harbour from Puerto del carmen you pass a shopping & restaurant complex: good shops here :)
Fuerteventura market is worth a visit (nice costume jewellery)

DONT waste money visiting Los Lobos Island - Advertised as deserted island; in reality it is an Abandoned island!! (although beach nice). Absolutely nothing else there - NOTHING!

We really enjoyed our holiday and recommend it.

My husband and I have just returned home from Cinco Plazas. It is the worst place we have ever stayed. In two weeks, our apartment got sparcely cleaned, 3 times. Because there is no air-conditioning,(we asked reception, and she held abig piece of paper up and 'do you want to join this big que?) So we didn't bother. The rep tells you that there is not enough sunbeds, and if you do get one, you can hire the mattress for 5 euros deposit and 1 euro every day after that.
It was so hot at night, despite having a fan, and every morning my pillow and sheets were drenched with sweat that I had to dry them off outside, because there is hardly any maid service.
I would not reccommend these apartments and have stayed in far better. The floors were filthy, the bins overflowing, and I had to buy some bin liners, cos as I said the cleaning was non existent. It was the first time I've had to change bins, mop floorsetc on holiday. It was the first time I have ever left without leaving the maids a tip.
The only consellation was that we spent lots of time away from this place. A trip to 'Mulligans' is well worth the trip to Lanzarote if you appreciate good music. Fantastic band called 'The usual suspects' Collie Farrel and his band are absolutely awesome!

Good central location in puerto Del Carmen.
Has 3 good sized pools and plenty of sunbeds.
If they are all taken tell the lifeguard he is ace he goes on a mission and takes all the towels off any unused beds peoples faces are a picture when they return.
Staff very helpful.
Entertainment good kids loved it.

Travelled here for 2 weeks with my partner and son. First impressions were very good apartments were big and pools and communal areas were well kept. The only bad things i can say about the Cinco Plaza was the cleaning of apartments and the air conditioning. Firstly maid service was almost no existent. This was the real let down of the holiday for me. In the whole 2 weeks we were there the maids came 4 times however when they did come they may as well not as all they done was a quick mop of the floor so it was left to us to clean the apartment everyday. Also the bed linen was never changed i had to phone reception everyday and ask for clean sheets and towels and change the beds myself. There was no way you should be expected to sleep in the same sheets everyday especially with the heat and sweat. Also there was no air conditiong which was really bad as it was so warm while we were there.
Now on to the good bits. I would say Cinco Plaza is in an ideal location very close to everything and although the hill is steep it is not that bad and certainly isnt as run down as mentioned in the previous post it is just typical canarian side street. If you go into the town at night try to walk on the beach side the touts are so annoying they even tried to lift my sons pram up a flight of steps to bring us into a night club-not somewhere i want to be going with a 6 year old. Most nights we tended to eat in the partments the food was really nice and there is entertainment on every night which is excellent. It starts of with a kids minidisco at 8 followed by kids minigames then a show at 9. The shows are brilliant we loved reps vs guests on a tuesday night. The entertainment is also on throughout the day with water polo, bingo, sangria party, aqua gym its brilliant and the enetertainment boys roberto and lousi couldn't do any better they are brilliant. I also found the reps Gemma and Andrew to be very helpful and very friendly. They were there everyday and also willing to help. I found all the staff in the whole complex to be very friendly. The pools were brilliant the main pool has a kids pool and main pool. The plaza montanan were we stayed had 1 pool with a small shallow end in it. A few last tips we went to Rancho Texas which was brilliant and if you are eating out in town sick to Lanis we had terrible meals anywere else we tried. To sum up if Cinco Plaza sorted the maid service and air con i would have no hesitation in returning as the rest of the place was amazing!!

We have just returned from the cinco Plaza and would not return if it was free.

Beware of the thomsons T rating always check the key rating.

Firstly the good points:
1/ The weather
2/ The room size
3/ Room location round the pools

Bad points
1/ cleaniness very poor
2/ morning sunbed rage
2/ Being ripped off by hotel for food and drink. 3 x jd and cokes 18 euros say no more
3/ broken sunbeds
4/ no aircon anywhere unless paid for
5/ tv 3 euros per day or 14 for the week
6/ ants ants and more ants, cockroaches which rep said none in 4 or 5 star hotel good to know the roaches can tell the star ratings!!!!
7/ Bed linen dirty and smelly, pillows are re used old sofa cushions inside a pillow case.
8/ main pool area has bar/ entertainment/ free sangria/ water polo other two pools have nothing out of sight out of mind.
9/ basically thomsons drop you here and it feels like they say get on with it and we wil see you when we collect you to go home.
10/ reception and rep being informed there had been a toilet incident in the pool (code brown!!) and not asking people to get out, there was evidence of the incident round the pool area and unaware people were walking through it!!!!!
11/ being told the bus cannot pull up outside the hotel to collect you for the airport as will be fined and can you carry your cases to the top of the hill in 35 degree heat with the kids, but the bus managed to drop us outside on arrival!!
12/ killer hill down to resort dirty and scary very very run down.

Unfortunately for the resort the credit crunch has hit hard with bars and restaurants closing down the ones open are desperate for you to eat or drink but have not change their pricing we were a party of 7 and the price for a meal out with a round of drinks was never less than 120 euros and believe me we were not going to top restaurants.

We feel very let down by thomsons we paid a lot of money for this holiday and feel that the only thing they povided was a flight and a bed thats not quite what their advert says.

We are just back from the Cinco plaza,We have 2 boys, 3 and 11 they had a great time there is kids zone for 2 hours in the morning for the younger ones, children have to be 3yrs or more. Then in the afternoon for the bigger ones went for 2 hours . the staff in the kids zone are brill with the kids bubbly beaky and magic mandy, my kids wanted to bring beaky home. we stayed at the top pool and this was nice and private.aparments were good size we had one bed, our friends stayed in a two bed at the same time and it was much bigger. At night the entertainment was good starts with a kids disco and then a show for adults.Once it came to 12 midnight the bar staff would close up and ask you to finish your drink outside so if your looking for a late drink this is not for you.it was perfect for us and we will go back.the hill up is a bit of a killer we called it heart attack hill, but its worth it.
