Me, my wife and 2 children aged 5 and 8 have recently just returned from a 12 night stay here, it was our first time to Lanzarote and I must say it was a very pleasant experience, first impressions of the premises were very good, all new reception area and the staff very polite and helpful which in turn was the general impression of all the staff, everyone appears to be very happy in their work which is always a good sign.

We chose self catering and booked a 1 bedroom apartment (206) which we found to be very clean, spacious and well equipped, we was informed that this was one of the newly upgraded rooms, because there was 4 of us we had 2 more single beds which were very comfortable, installed in the living area however even this didn't hamper our space, the bathroom was large and had a walk in shower cubicle, the kitchen area had an electric oven and hob with toaster and kettle, we did use this mostly at breakfast and lunchtimes. We emailed prior to our arrival to request a pool view and this request was met which we was very pleased with.

There are 2 pools on site a smaller pool at the bottom end of the complex and the larger salt water pool at the top end which our room looked over, I have never used a salt water pool before and I must state that it is a lot kinder certainly on the eyes than a chlorine pool.

There is a small poolside bar run by a guy named Matt, what a great guy he is, he is brilliant with the children even letting them behind the bar to pull their own slush's and plays music all afternoon, I recommend Happy Hour between 4-6 when alcoholic drinks are 50% cheaper, you can order snacks here or at the bar throughout the afternoon.

The restaurant serves good food and has themed nights like, Fish and Chips on Friday, Curry Night on Saturday, Sunday Roast and BBQ night on Tuesday, we only went to BBQ night and it is highly recommended, steak and all you can eat buffet and very reasonably priced too, I must mention that the breakfasts are also excellent value too, we ate out at local restaurants mostly many within 5-10 minutes walking distance, Sirocco do great pizzas and even have a take-away section, O'Horreo was a big favourite of ours, the food is great and the waiters really look after you, it can get a bit pricey however and a restaurant named Caballito De Mar, Pepe loves kids and serves excellent Spanish food and very reasonably priced, we had an amazing paella here.

There is a supermarket on site selling the basic essentials, we did find it a bit more pricey than the Spar shop which was in the Commercial Centre within 5 minutes walking distance where there is a lot more choice and less expensive.

As you can probably guess by the title of the review, the resort of Matagorda is very close to the airport and whilst the planes do come in very low near to the complex, they are almost silent as they approach, you do hear them taking off but to be honest you get used to them and the airport closes at midnight so there are no night flights inbound or outbound, I do recommend a walk down the promenade to the airport it is quite a surreal experience how close you can get to the planes.

We found the resort of Matagorda very nice however rather quiet, most of the bars and restaurants close before midnight and other than a small amusement arcade in the Commercial Centre, there is very little to entertain the children and we did find it a struggle at times, a short 5 minute taxi ride into Puerto Del Carmen is highly recommended and only costs around 5 euros, this is a much busier resort and we found it cheaper eating out here, I highly recommend a restaurant name La Brasa opposite the Adidas shop, the food is excellent and cooked in an open kitchen in front of you and the staff are excellent.

To sum up we had a great holiday, we found the place to be very chilled out and you do things at your own pace, very relaxing holiday.

We would have probably given this 5 stars however the lack of childrens entertainment let it down, I do understand that there are plans for the near future to introduce a kids club and mini disco.

We would likely return sometime in the future especially if the entertainment programme is more child friendly.

Room Tip: Room 206 has a great pool and sea view

I stayed here 2 weeks ago for a weeks holiday on a half board basis in a 1 bed apartment which overlooked the pool. On arrival we were greeted by friendly happy receptionist who booked us in quickly and supplied us with a map and explained where our apt was. Even though we arrived late the restaurant was still serving, and when we entered we were greeted by friendly helpful staff. All the staff in the restaurant were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and even though we were on a half board basis the staff informed us that we could choose something off the main menu as well. The apts and the whole area around the complex and the pool were immaculately kept. The apts are only a half hour walk from puerto del Carmen and about 10 mins by bus which stops outside. If you want to do any of the trips or hire bikes you just speak to the staff on reception and they will arrange them for you. There are 2 pools one is salt water and beside the restaurant and the other is beside the bungalows. I would highly recommend costa sal and would certainly visit again.

I have been to Lanzarote three times before this particular trip and had never stayed in Costa Sal before. I wish I had of just stayed here from the beginning! Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 10 days and we had an absolute ball! We stayed in a studio apartment which was small but perfect for the both of us. Room was spotlessly clean, cleaners came everyday (so friendly!) everything we needed was there, bathroom clean, shower great, view out onto the playground which had sun all day long & the sea was in the background, our bed was a double (rare to not have 2 single beds together!) & it was so comfortable, air conditioning was really easy to use & quiet too. The pools were gorgeous & we spent most of our time at the larger pool by the restaurant & reception, it was never too busy but had a nice buzz, pool bar was great with a happy hour that lasted for two hours a day! Zumba & bingo by the pool were great fun! Receptionists had excellant English & were incredibly helpful. Restaurant had great food choices & everything we had was really, really tasty & reasonably priced. We ate lunch there a few times & had dinner one night! Prawn Cocktail is good! Staff are great there too!

Location is ideal! It's a 10 minute drive from airport so you are best off getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel rather than getting a bus as it only cost us €7! There are plenty of shops and restaurants right beside the resort or you can walk to Puerto del Carmen which takes maybe an hour or you can get a taxi which will cost you €5! There is also a great little shop downstairs from reception should you need anything. We both also got a massage in Costa Sal which cost €50 for a whole hour & Christina was so good. We felt a million dollars afterwards!

Wifi could be better but then again - we were happy not to have our phones while on holiday too so that was no big deal at all!! Very little noise considering we were so close to the airport and you are so close to a beach too! Long story short - this is the best resort in Lanzarote (We think!) and we had the best holiday! Thank you so much to the gang in Costa Sal - we will be back for sure! Keep up the great work!

Room Tip: Try emailing the hotel should you want a good room with a nice view. Studio apartments all come with...

We stayed in a standard villa for 11 nights in May.
The location is great with a short stroll to beach or shops. In addition there is a shop on site with pretty much everything you could want. Staff across the resort are extremely friendly and helpful.

The swimming pools are great-4 in total (2 of which are children). Lifeguard at pools which is very reassuring.
Villas are excellent and it was great to have an enclosed outside area for children to play in. Very clean and if you have films for children on a hard drive then it plugged directly into the TV.
The food was excellent. My daughter in particular loved the mini steak. It was also great to be able to order food for collection and bring it back to villa.
There seems to be a number of upgrades in progress which will only strengthen what is already an excellent resort.
FYI the hotel is linked to Emma's cantina Mexican restaurant and you can get a discount if resident in the hotel-excellent restaurant

Excellent hotel, great location in the quiet Matagorda area. We had a 2 bed bungalow right around the pool, so it was fantastic. The bungalows are well laid out and kept spotless. We stayed near the bottom pool and always got a sunbed (last week in June) there IS a problem with people keeping sunbeds. I've no problem with people putting towels down and going for breakfast- its when the towels are down first thing, and the people don't arrive until the afternoon its really annoying. People with babies having to wander around looking for beds, and there were lots kept.

The staff in the hotel are brilliant, going out of their way for any request. The tennis court is welcome. We stayed B&B, and the breakfast was great- not the biggest selection Ive ever seen, but it was hot and very tasty. The BBQ on tuesday night was very good value. Its a lovely stroll around Matagorda, and either a 30min walk or a 5 euro taxi into Puerto Del Carmen. The children loved it. Only gripe was that the downstairs playroom was closed due to the building work(which didn't bother us) It would have been handy for the children in the evening. Overall highly recommended.

Room Tip: The bungalows around the lower pool are excellent and quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and sharing it with other readers here on TripAdvisor.
It gives us great pleasure to read that our guests have had such an enjoyable stay with us at Costa Sal. And we are constantly trying to improve our services and make every holiday a memorable one.
I do apologise for the games room which was closed during your stay. It is now open, and in the next week or so we hope to open a room beside it, which will have a cinema for the kids in the evening and a mini disco.
What can I say about the towel situation!
I have personally removed towels over the last 10 days from loungers and we are very strict on no towels before 09.00.
At this point people start to form a queue! And if I see they have not come back within a reasonable time, I have removed them.
I have also personally written a letter that is given to ALL guests , asking them to respect other holidaymakers. and not to reserve the beds and not use them all day. It is a very difficult one to manage. But we are trying! And hope that our guests will also take note of the situation. And not reserve beds they barely use!
I am always open to suggestions on this problem.
My e mail is geraldine.mcfadden@gmail.com so if you or anyone else reading this has any ideas on how we can resolve the towel situation, I would be delighted to hear from you. Thanks once again for taking the time to write your review and we hope to see you back again soon.

Having stayed here before, it was an easy decision to reach when booking hour sun holiday this year. Initially we'd booked a one bed apartment but decided a few weeks before departure to look for a bungalow instead as we added my father in law to our booking. Needless to say, it was no problem and Geraldine sorted it all out for us via e-mail.

On arrival we were greeted by Paulina who is courteous and helpful and has a permanent smile on her face. Check in sorted we made our way to the lower area of the complex where the bungalows and the second pool are. It's worth noting that it's a bit of a trek down with bags and a pushchair etc, so keep that in mind if hills are an issue.

The bungalows are very spacious and very well equipped. A couple of minor issues were sorted out in moments once we'd contacted reception (extra pillows and a carafe for making coffee) and it's a hallmark of the premises that the staff are prompt and helpful to a man and woman. Everyone has a smile and a cheery hello for you.

Anyway, back to the bungalow. Ours was 714 and it was spotless. Its balcony faces south and therefore looks to the back of the complex rather than onto the pool, but to be honest this suited a little better as we had more privacy when sitting out in the evening having a drink or a snack prior to heading out in the evening. There is a large lounge area as you enter the bungalow with a TV that receives a selection of UK, Irish and continental channels. The kitchen includes a table and chairs for four, has a ceramic hob, microwave, carafe for coffee making and utensils including pots and pans and as much tableware as you'd need. The under-counter fridge freezer has a small icebox section.

The bathroom is large and bright.

The master bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space, a mirror and counter for make-up etc. The wardrobe also includes a safe. The window in the master bedroom looks out onto the pool area and has shutters so you can keep the windows open but have the privacy you need. The second bedroom is a bit smaller and has a door leading into a small yard where you'll find a clothes horse. This time of year you'll dry your towels and togs in no time there.

The bungalow was cleaned five days each week and the towels changed every time our cleaner visited. Linen was also changed regularly. Our cleaner did a great job tidying and cleaning and after her visits, but for our stuff in the rooms, you'd swear the room had been prepared for new guests!

The grounds and pool areas are very well maintained (one of my criticisms on my last visit was the upkeep of the pool area). My only real gripe was that there was a bit of a free for all with the sunbeds each morning at the lower pool, despite the fact there was was a railing to prevent access to the pool area, some guests ignored these, so by the time 9am came around there weren't so many beds left. This rule is observed more strictly around the upper pool, which is the busier of the two anyway.

Life around the pool at the bungalows is very laid back and everyone gets to know one another down there. It's ideal for kids and our four year old had a ball there getting to know other kids and playing games around and in the pools. She went from being afraid of getting her body wet in a pool when we arrived to jumping into the big pool with me by the middle of our second week.

The restaurant and bar are great. The food is great and themed nights like BBQ on Tuesday, Fish and Chips on Friday and Curry Night on Saturday are hugely popular for good reason. Entertainment is good fun in the bar and there's a different act each night. The staff in the bar are all great. They work hard but are always happy to help.

Work is ongoing to the pool bar area at the main pool and to the reception area and the place will look fantastic when it's all complete and to be fair, the work in no way interfered with our enjoyment of the complex. When the work on the pool bar area is complete there'll be shaded seating for daytime enjoyment and a bbq every night. Well worth the work, I reckon.

The area around the Costa Sal is Matagorda, the quietest area of the Puerto del Carmen resort. There's a commercial center with a selection of bars and restaurants a short walk in one direction, in the other the promenade is lined with another selection of places to eat and drink and to enjoy a nice sunset. Of course, if you want something a little more hectic, the main resort is a short drive away. A taxi wouldn't cost much more than €5.

Suffice to say we'll be back and are already planning our dates for next summer! Well done to all the staff for making it a fantastic holiday.
