“Great value, relaxing holiday”
Reviewed 25 February 2011

Just back from a week with the kids at Costa Sal; would definitely recommend it to anyone who fancies a relaxing holiday in the sun. The refurbished rooms are contemporary and cool and the outside space is well maintained. The complex has two pools the main pool is large and clean. Although it's salt water this didn't put the kids off being in everyday. There is also tennis, racketball and indoor sports to occupy older kids.
Food onsite is good if fairly standard fair. However a taxi into Puerto del Carmen is only €7 and has some lovely restaurants in the old town. Check out Puerto Bahia for stunning views and excellent food.

We were back in Costa Sal for the 16th time. Our biggest problem this time was nothing to do with Costa Sal - it was the dull, grey weather for the first half of our week. When the sun doesn't shine, Lanzarote becomes a much less attractive holiday spot and its food seems even more mediocre. However, Costa Sal didn't cover itself in glory. We arrived on Sunday night, and by Monday morning the builders were drilling away very close to us - they were refurbishing a number of apartments. Management said on Wednesday that the noise would stop that evening, but it resumed on Thursday. The reception desk was very helpful about letting us move to different apartments in a quiet spot - the new apartments, however, had a slightly musty feel to them and had not undergone the refurbishment of the ones we were in initially. At the end of the week, we asked to keep one of our two apartments for a few hours after normal check-out time because we had a mid-evening flight - Costa Sal insisted on charging us €36 for it, and seemed genuinely bemused when we suggested they might let us have it free, or at least a bit cheaper, in recompense for three days of building noise. Other minor gripes: wifi is expensive and didn't work very well; charging for the safes in the rooms is a bit of a money-grab; the on-site shop was poorly stocked; and the bar operation was careless and charmless. On the other hand, the very large heated swimming pool remains a joy, the whole complex is maintained immaculately, the outdoor furniture is comfortable, the patios roomy, and there is a lovely air of calm and quiet. And it's a short walk down to the sea. Above all, it's very good value. Our final three days sitting in the sun sent us all home in a good mood once again.

Stayed here for two weeks. The resort was exactly as depicted on websites.
Friendly staff, pretty good food and entertainment.Well kept grounds. The apartment was of a good standard although apart from sleeping,we mostly used the balcony. It was an easy walt to the beach and Commercial centre, with shops bars and restaurants.
Best restaurant was the Jazz Bistro. The Japanese was also very good although the staff were miserable.Best bar was the Funny Farm

We stayed for two weeks in a studio apartment and we were extremely impressed with the high standards of house keeping and the helpful and friendly staff. The 2 swimming pools and a nice restaurant made it an excellent location for families and couples and the complex was very safe/secure.

We hired a car for 5 days and that allowed us to most of the island. Definitely recommend the National Park, Gracia vineyard area (Lanzarote wine was lovely) and the Sunday Market at Teguise. The surrounding area in Matagorda was quiet, but after seeing all the other main resorts in Lanzarote, we think it had the best beaches and was a lot nicer environment wise.

Food and drink was expensive (10-15 euros for a main course), so we did cook a few nights and there are local supermarkets. The resort is very near to the airport, so a bit of background noise from flights, but certainly not enough to ruin the holiday, and the transfer was only 10-15 mins which was great.

Weather was 20-26 degrees in the day, but fleece/cardigan needed for the evening.

My wife and I stayed at Costa Sal for 1 week over new years. We booked a luxury apartment last minute.

The accommodation was excellent, very clean and looked exactly like the pictures on their website.

The location was also great, only a few mins walk to the beach.

The front-desk staff really were outstanding, they were so helpful and nothing was too much travel. They helped us arrange rental cars, trips and were a wealth of local tourist information. and good advice. The friendliness of the staff really makes this holiday stand-out in my memory.

My only complaint about Costa Sal is that the quality of the food from the restaurant was mediocre, but there are plenty of other good eateries very near by.

I'd highly recommend Costa Sal to other couples of familys looking for a relaxing, safe clean holiday.

There were 7 of us in our party, 4 adults, a 5 year old and 4 month old. Overall the room and resort were great, no complaints.
It is very close to the airport and when we first got there the noise was worrying, it was really loud but we soon git used to it. We had a bungalow which was a good size and nicely located by the smaller pool. The local shopping centre had 2 supermarkets, shops, restaurants, a beauticians and bike hire, it was just over a 5 minute walk from our bungalow. There were some karaoke bars and a few with English football. Further up the road were bars and shops along side the road, the otherside of the road was the beach, the road was quiet.
There are great cycle paths across the island, I hired a bike for 24 hours and it cost 10 euros.
There were no clubs that I saw but that was a good thing as we had young children.
We had an air con leak, air con engineer turned up really quickly.
Nice clean beach with rock pools.
When I was researching where to go I found the trip advisor reviews really useful, I wasn't really interested in the small bad things about the resort but it helped us narrow down so the following are small niggles but hopefully helpful:

* we arrived at 10.30pm and were just given a map, no one helped with our cases despite us having a buggy and young children. It wasn't very well lit and we struggled to find the ramps to get down to our bungalow
* supermarket had closed when we got there so had to buy water from bar which was expensive
* no kettle in our room, we asked for one but it was dirty
* brochure stated there was a dvd player which there wasn't
* we could only get one British channel on tv
* bar staff not very friendly and took ages to serve. Asked for a cocktail, staff moaned, said they had never done it before and just tipped loads of alcohol in, usually that would be a bonus but it tasted horrible!
So, as I said, for the money we paid, definately great value and we had everything we needed

Been down to Costa Sal now a few times ; excellent apartment complex - very good value for money and as for the onsite restaurant Zest; the food is superb. Especially the gambas al ajillo. Real proper spanish food that tastes amazing. Also there's a great BBQ one day a week which is brilliant value for money - staff lovely too. We stayed in the suites which have a fab view out to the sea. Will be going back!
