“Peaceful”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

Returned from a peaceful week at Nautilus. Have stayed many times in Matagorda but Nautilus is far more pleasant than other accommodation we have used. Spotlessly clean. Staff very helpful. Great to see the facilities for people with disabilities and to see them being used. There is a feeling that the owners/management are proud of their facility - and rightly so.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back struggle to get Wi-fi signal but they have great views and the sun shines on them...

Wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this place as although it seemed to have great reviews it was only a 2 star. Well I definitely didn't have anything to be worried about. The accommodation was spacious and spotlessly clean, cleaners came every other day with new bedding and towels. Each bungalow had its own patio area with a table and chairs along with two sun loungers for those who choose not to sunbathe by the pool. The pool area is a very good size based on the small nature of the resort and again very clean. There is also the most bizarre and beautiful artwork around the resort which creates a very unique feel. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere which isn't a generic apartment block around a pool. No one appeared to be poolside until gone 10 o'clock, which meant there was never a fight for sun loungers. I think even on the busiest days no more than a third of the beds were occupied at any one time, which made the place blissfully peaceful despite there being many families with small children. The whole resort is very flat and accessible which makes it perfect for young families and those with disabilities. I don't believe there is any category of people that this place isn't perfect for, it definitely appeals to all.

There is mini golf onsite with no charge just a deposit for clubs as well as a pool table and table tennis table. There is a shop onsite with reasonable prices however for those not willing to pay a little extra there is a spar a 10min walk away. There is food available onsite until half 2 which you can pre-order from a takeaway menu, however we never really saw anyone doing this. We chose to buy food from the spa down the road at the beginning of the week and make baguettes or throw a pizza in the oven etc.

The location of the place is superb. Only a 10 euro taxi ride from the airport, some may turn their nose up at being so close however the noise from the planes were not an issue at all and you barely noticed it at the end of the week. It is about a 200m flat walk to the promenade which goes for about 2-3km until you reach the end of Puerto del Carmen. There are bars, shops and restaurants all the way along so you are spoilt for choice when it comes to food. We actually spent the first night walking the length of the promenade picking out the best looking restaurants for the week and we never had a bad meal. Always had brilliant service and got some great advice off both locals and staff back at nautilus about the best things to do during your stay. For those not able or willing to walk so much before or after food a taxi most of the way down will only cost you around 4 euros.

I would definitely make a return visit to nautilus bungalows as we had a blissful holiday in a great location. Definitely lives up to the great reviews people have left and is very deserving of the numerous trip advisor awards.

Room Tip: The poolside bungalows seem to be ideal if you have children. Not ideal if you want a bit more priva...

This was our 2nd time staying at the Bungalows Nautilus and again we had a fabulous time. The reception staff Barbara, Susi , Heidi and Marina are fabulous and nothing is ever to much trouble for them. The bungalow ( we stayed in number 8 this time ) was very well equipped for our wheelchair bound daughter and our requests for a pool side apartment had been dealt with as requested. The bungalows are spotless and very well situated with only a short walk to the promenade. We will definitely be returning to this area again and will definitely go back to the Nautilus. You can definitely see why this accomodation has been rated number 1 in Puerto del Carmen.

I have been and reviewed Nautilus Bungalows before and each time I go it seems to improve.
The recent renovations can only secure Nautilus's position as Number 1 accommodation in Puerto del Carmen. The staff, Leda, Barbara, Susi and Heidi are amazing and nothing is too much trouble for them
The cleanliness appearance of the bungalows and the pride taken by it's owner Leda make this the ideal place for families to stay.
This is like going from home to home for us and long may it stay that way.

We are repeat offenders when it comes to holidaying in Lanzarote, and more particularly staying in this small, quaint resort of Matagorda ... On all previous occasions we have stayed just a few minutes walk away in the "Playa Pocillos" as on our first stay their we fell in love but on booking this holiday that hotel was full so i had to look elsewhere.
I came onto this site first to see what other hotels in the area had great ratings, that was when i stumbled across the "Nautilus Bungalows" at No.1 of 86 Hotels in Puerto Del Carmen (Ok, it's not quite in P.D.Carmen i know) but still .... from the reviews it seemed a sure bet so i booked.
We arrived just after Christmas on the 29th December 2012 with the intentions of seeing in the New Year on the island, when we arrived at the complex first impressions were very good, the site looked spotless, as most places in the Matagorda area it seemed very quiet and peaceful (just how we like it!) and on going inside we weren't disappointed. We had a warm canarian greeting from the lady on reception, booking in was swift and effortless and before long we were heading across the spotlessly kept pool area and heading to our room No.16.
The room was amazing, although the only thing i will mention is that the patio doors did feel pretty flimsy and when locked didn't look or feel totally secure but knowing how quiet this area was and being tucked away at the back of the complex i felt assured in trusting it for the week we were their. Our room though, No.16 was perfect ... i would say it was the best situated apartment in the complex, we were slightly elevated above the pool so the wall was too high for anyone to peep over and we were right at the end of the walkway so our patio area was a dead-end so nobody ever walked past our patio or door, very private indeed!
The apartment was bright and airy, very pleasant infact and it catered for our needs ... the bedrooms were reasonably spacious and had plenty of storage room in the wardrobes, all windows were secured with metal bars which gave us that extra security from the back of the apartment. The kitchen was very useful, a nice size and just off that we had a door leading out to a boxed in garden area with high walls which was ideal for putting wet washing out on the line as the sun was intense in that small boxed in area.
We had a rather large patio which was great for our daughter to play on, she could come and go as she pleased and we were safe in the knowledge that we were so privately situated she was in no danger. We had enough sun loungers and chairs to accommodate us whilst on the patio area and the sun was on it for the majority of the day which was another bonus.
The pool area is amazing, it's a fair size pool, very clean and great for the kids ... There is also plenty of space around the pool for you to just sit and enjoy the sun in comfort!
I think that pretty much covers the complex as a whole, all in all i think this place is punching well below it's weight and warrants far more than a 2 star rating, as for value it is second to none so this one comes highly recommended by me and we will definately be coming back!

Just to add about the local area .... Matagorda is a gorgeous area to stay if your looking for somewhere quiet and relaxed, don't be put off by how close this resort is to the airport as you'll see the aircraft landing frequently but the noise isn't an issue.
There is a small shopping center just a few minutes walk out of the complex doors that is great for a bite to eat in a relaxing environment, there is a spar there which is great for small everyday essentials. For those looking for a great English breakfast i highly recommend the "Cheers" bar ... this one is about a 20 min walk from the hotel, if you walk to the shopping center and get onto the promenade and follow that all way around to the end when it meets the main promenade into Puerto Del Carmen it's just opposite that road ... this bar is owned by Jane & Robbie, they are excellent hosts and the food is superb!

Room Tip: ask for room number 16

Dear Guest,
First of all we would like to thank you for sharing your opinion on Tripadvisor.
It is really nice to see that you and you family enjoyed a relaxing stay with us. And just as you wrote we are not quite in Puerto del Carmen but, on the other hand, the spot is quiet (which is what most of our customers are aiming for…) We keep on working for our guests to feel comfortable and safe too. We have just reopened after having been closed for refurbishment when we have installed more photovoltaic panels among other touch-ups.

If you decide to come back on your next holiday, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will inform you about everything regarding the pool side apartments or any other request that you might have.

Meanwhile we wish you all the best.

Dear Guest,
On behalf of our Director Leda Giordano, we would like to thank you for your feedback - she is on holiday and that is why is not able to do it personally.
For us it is very important to integrate Art, Culture, Hospitality, Accessibility and Sustainability not only in our resort Nautilus Lanzarote, but as a general thought and philosophy for the Island. Because only in this way it is possible to maintain the spirit of Lanzarote and transmit it to visitors.
Hope to see you back in Nautilus.

We chose this hotel partly on its trip advisor rating but also because we do not like traditional hotels. We were not disappointed in any way at all. It is difficult to think of any way we could criticise our stay at the Nautilus. The staff, without exception, are not simply helpful and friendly but show enthusiasm for what they are doing. The is clean and well maintained and the bungalows are well equipped for self catering. We thoroughly enjoyed its proximity to the airport (and if you're nerdy enough you can use the wifi to access the airports live arrivals/departure information to see what's coming and going). We are seasoned travellers and never visit the same place twice. However, in the case of the Nautilus we think we've found somewhere which provides everything we are looking for and will be planning our next trip shortly.
