Having spent a week here in November 2013 self-catering, myself and a friend booked again for April for 11nights. Unfortunately they no longer have a self cater option so we had to go half board, although were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. There are many reviews saying how bad the food is,but we did not find this to be the case. The breakfast selection of the usual continental style as well as fruit, yoghurt and a full cooked range was good. The evening meals again had a range of dishes along the lines of paella, pasta, meat and freshly cooked fish. Yes it isn't gourmet food but is perfectly decent for the price! Locally there are plenty of restaurants to try out also.
The cleanliness of the Izaro is excellent and I don't think I've ever seen a cleaner pool. We had a small issue of some ants in our apartment and I spoke to reception who sorted it out immediately and the problem was resolved.
It is well located for local shops, bars and a bus stop very close by. There is a hill down into the town but if that's an issue then you can get a taxi for around 3euros to the beach.
I would happily stay here a third time!

Stayed at the Izaro for a week from 20th-27th April 2014 and had a brilliant time. Found the complex to be extremely clean and we'll kept. Staff were very helpful and all spoke excellent English. Staff on reception were exceptionally helpful. We were very pleased with our room (619) as it was on the upper floor and therefore had its own very private balcony, which we preferred to sit on rather than around the pool. Rooms on lower floor don't have these balconies, just a small patio area outside the apartment, but these are very 'public' as everyone walks past right next to where you are sitting. Would definitely recommend upstairs rooms if available. Bathroom was beautiful-newly fitted toilet/shower etc and nicely tiled.Beds very comfortable. Sheets and towels changed on a regular basis. Apartment had decent TV and once we'd realised that you could change the language on many of the programmes, we found a few channels showing American series, which you could watch in English. Food was fine. Not out of this world, but there was certainly more than enough choice every morning and evening. You would have to be incredibly fussy not to be able find something you liked! The pool was large and the whole area kept very clean. Hotel was a bit out of town but only a 10 min walk (downhill) at the very most to the harbour area, where there were plenty of bars/restaurants. A little more walking took you into the more touristy area of Puerto del Carmen but it would have been a long uphill walk back, so we always caught a bus or got a taxi (never cost more than €3.50 in taxi and less than €3 for the two of us on bus). Would certainly stay here again.

Wasn't happy with the hotel, very disapoointed, terrible service, took ages to check in.staff do not speak much English so found it hard to communicate.

No sunbeds available around pool and the beach is far to walk.

Food is truly terrible, and does not go well together. Cutlery was dirty and staff did not offer any drinks to us.

Rooms were very dark and depressing, and needs updating very soon.

Would not return.

Hotel is in a great location, just ten minutes walk from the town and shops, the port with all it's lovely restaurants and the beaches. We booked a two bed apartment and the Hotel accommodation is simple but ideal for holidays, and the important things were spot on - comfortable beds, good shower, patio with chairs and table and TV with BBC world (and an option to watch all dubbed programmes in their original language, so Disney channel, movies and US drama shows available), and all spotlessly clean.

Pool area lovely with loads of sunbeds and a good, heated pool - the week we were there was busy so you did need to 'bag' a sunbed, but we usually forgot and still mainly managed to find two together. Restaurant served fab breakfasts, with something for everyone in the family (and we have a fussy child). Kids lived the dinners (there were chips every night), and they had a really nice salad bar every night. Hot food was reasonable, some things (paella and stews) were good. Grilled fish and meat could be a bit dry. We all enjoyed the meals, but husband and I chose to feed the kids there a couple of times and then are out, which worked well for us. Bar was great, with fab smoothies and cocktails and a happy hour. Kids loved the organised actives in the bar in the evening. The complex is peppered with big comfy sofas which you can sink into and enjoy a drink.

A special mention for the staff, who were all wonderful, in particular the man at reception who was so helpful and the girl in charge of activities, who was tireless and brilliant with the kids (and adults!). The facilities at the Izaro were good - my 9 year old joined in most nights in the footie on the AstroTurf, and we all had a go at table tennis and darts. All in all would recommend this hotel as good value, and great for families, and we look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: We had rooms nearest to reception, which suited us as near to restaurant. Rooms near the pool would...

We stayed here for 10 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment, 2 adults and 2 kids aged 8 and 4. After reading several reviews was a bit worried about the location and food however I have to say that both were excellent. We ate in the restaurant all but 2 nights and thought the selection was good and varied and always hot. Breakfast was great with everything from fruit, cereal and a fantastic hot selection. Kids were entertained really well and the kids rep Anna was nothing but fantastic!! They had ping pong, boules, badminton, football, darts (to name an few) and they loved the mini disco and bingo in the evening. however the adult entertainment was not as good and was repeated a couple of times a week. The walk to the harbour (which is lovely and if you have kids has a little outside play area in one part) only takes around 10 mins and is no problem up and down the hill. Even with a pushchair or carrying a child this was no problem. We walked to Puerto del Carmen beach a couple of times which took about 20 mins downhill and if you don't fancy walking back then you can get the no.3 bus from the end of the strip and this drops you off at the end of the road - 4 of us for 4 euros (bus stop balcon del mar). The staff at the hotel are great and I don't agree that they don't speak English, they were all conversant. The apartment was cleaned 6 times a week and the whole complex is spotless, if you don't want to take pool towels then you can put a 10 euro deposit per towel down which you get back at the end of your trip. A good trip out is the water taxi which takes you from the harbour to the next port which is around 20 mins and great for little ones as is not too long, once there you can have lunch for a couple of hours and then come back. 10 euros return adult and 6 euros return for the kids. A few areas that weren't so great were that as we were away for the easter break it was busy and you had to get up for around 8am to get a towel on a sunbed!!!! This is something we do not like but if you didn't do this then you couldn't get round the pool which with kids is where you want to be. Towards the end of the holiday it wasn't as bad as it wasn't as busy. The pool was a bit cold but once in was ok (do need to brace yourself whilst getting in!). Overall a great holiday, clean, relaxing, great area and kids loved the place - especially Anna who clearly loves looking after them.
