We stayed here in March, the second stay in a Riu AI after holidaying in their ClubHotel Oliva Beach in Fuertuventura in June 2010. We thought the the standard of AI was first class at the Oliva Beach resort but this hotel exceeded our expectations. It was a great shame the weather wasnt as good as it could have been having brought our holiday forward from June due to health reasons, especially as we had to pay more in March than we would have in June. The hotel cant help the weather but it is amazing how many people were complaining about the weather to the reception staff. It was cold on two days & it would have been nice to have some heating on but by the time the hotel switched the heating on the third day, the sun had decided to come out.

The hotel is very clean & well set out & the fact it is two hotels means there are lots of nice gardens to walk around in. I suffer with walking any great distance at the moment & i found the walk between the two took just a few minutes. The rooms are set out in a way that makes them private & not overlooked & not noisey like in a big hotel. The staff are so friendly & quick to assist & i did not see any evidence of drinks being watered down. With the weather clouding over/raining by early afternoon most days, we certainly made full use of the bar!

Yes the food can get a bit repetative but isnt it always at AI & I have never had tuna steaks at lunch time at an AI hotel before. Yes the resturant must be very busy at peak times but we found going later into service meant we always got a table & as most of the food is cooked by the chefs in front of you it is always hot & freshly cooked. We tried all 3 themed restuarants and the Asian one was the best by far.

The enterainment was not our cup of tea & very much like the previous visit to Riu but we went along most nights & did have the odd laugh (mostly at the Germans......) but no-one can deny the Riu team dont work hard to put on a show. If you dont like it do something else instead. A taxi to the main resort was about 3 euro & is walkable in the day.

We always got a sunbed, when the sun did decide to pay us a visit even though plenty ignored the do not reserve rule & the free pool towels are a great idea. There are plently of pools but even the heated ones were a tad cold during my visit which was a bit of a disappointment.

This was my second visit to Lanzarote & so I would only come back if I got a great last minute deal & never in March but I am already looking for my next holiday later this year & it will definately be another Riu! I gave the hotel 5/5, if 4&1/2 was an option i would have gone for that.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms have best views but may be noisy?

I must say food was the best point of this all in hotel, but that's my weak spot. The hotel is overall very nice, service is one of the nicest I have ever met. Pools are nice. The gym is very small. The only bad thing were the beds: the double bed is actualy made of two single beds...which would still be alright if these beds on wheels didn't go apart every time one of us made it to the center...make sure you ask for fixing that as you arrive, they did it for me very nicely after the first night and it was ok after that.

On choosing our honeymoon hotel we used tripadvisor to find the PERFECT honeymoon hotel for a week end of sept. This hotel came out the top looking at hotels in the canaries, cyprus, maderia etc becuase of its great reviews..

We were so excited looking at he brochure and pictures! We emailed the hotel in advance to let them know it was our honeymoon - what a shame no upgrade, no card no flowers on arrival. Very poor view over the concrete roof of a lower floor. When we asked at recpetion they said - we had had an upgrade :S ??

We were in the old 5* hotel which has no restaurant etc so if you wnat a drink at night you have to walk over to the other hotel. It had its own pool but food was served at the other hotel

The hotel is quite isolated you cant really walk into a resort or go out at nigth without getting a taxi which meant nights were very boring - the entertainment is usually in German.

The food was good quality but very repetitive - i just had bread and butter most nights, not great for your honeymoon.

we paid A LOT for this week away as we wnated it to be special but the whole week we were ready for home.

Smoking is big problem - there are no designated non smoking areas and as i had asmatha it was hard to find a table free.

Very disappointing has left us with a bad impression of Riu and would not stay at one again. The Sol hotels are much more caring and presonal.

Room Tip: Stock on water bottles from reception if passing

Recently arrived back from 10 day trip to Club Hotel Riu Paraiso and had a very relaxing break. The weather was mixed - watching the temperatures in the UK during the first week, it was almost as hot here as in Lanzarote, and we did have a couple of showers whilst sunbathing (nice and cooling until we had to sit under the brolley as the rain got heavier). Temperatures, when the sun was out, got up to about 28 degrees and the wind was very welcome. It is difficult to fault the hotel and it's staff in any way. Arriving after the restaurants had closed, as had been the experience of other travellers, we were given a buffet meal in the main Oasis restaurant and, when we had difficulties getting into the restaurant, the hotal staff were eager to help out. Having read the reviews, as you do to form an impression, we were initially disappointed to find that our room was in the newer part of the hotel and a 5 minute walk from all of the main ammenities. However, as the days passed, we realised this was a blessing in disguise as it gave us peace and quiet(in the main) and some exercise after we had eaten! The room itself looked out over one of the 2 tennis courts and the road leading to the front of the hotel but was in no way affectedf by noise. It was in very good condition and cleaned beautifully every morning. (Beware the only TV stations in English were BBC World News, Sky News and FOX - but we were not on holiday to sit and watch TV all day so it didn't matter). The beds were comfortable but are on casters and, if you're not careful, you do find yourself sliding across the floor when leaning on the backboard! Rooms had airconditioning and a ceiling fan. The bathroom was large with both bath and shower (powerful!) but a large step in ( knee high and not suitable for people with mobility issues). All meals were good with variety on the menu. We tried the Mexican, Canarian and Asian restaurants and found the meal time more relaxed, less chaotic and different food. These we booked the day after we arrived to make sure we got in, particularly the Asian as that was busy. There are 2 sittings for each restaurant 18.45 and 20.45 the latter being the quieter and easier to book. Breakfast had absolutely everything you could possibly ask for from home made smoothies to the full english. Plates were quickly removed when they were finished with by a very efficient and friendly staff. Lunch was the only meal that you could say was repetitive as each day the same food of burgers, hotdogs, toasted sandwiches and pizza was offered. However, there was an abundance of fresh salad for those who are healthy eaters! The evening meal was themed and their roast joints of pork and lamb were wonderful. Drinks (red, white and rose wines in addition to beer, fruit juices and fizzy drinks) were on tap in the bar area of the main building and the restaurant of the annexe from 10 until midnight. Spirits were served at both bars without question except if you were under age when the bar staff refused to serve. A coffee machine was also available in both bar areas. My only criticism of the hotel in this respect is that after 6pm, unless you were in the main part of the hotel, you had no access to drinks without a 5 minute walk. This may well be different in the summer months as the restaurant on the newer side may well be open until later in the evening. There are 2 main pools very cold at this time of year but probably refreshing in the heat of the summer. Towel cards were exchanged on day 1 for 2 towels and then each day we changed the towels for clean ones excellent system! It syas no reserving of beds but who takes notice of this? Having said that there were always plenty of beds available - however there are insufficient umberellas. For those who like an evening stroll, there was a very long promenade at the back of the hotel which went to Puerto del Carmen centre to the right (lots of shops selling the usual souvenirs) and towards Arrecife to the left (much quieter and a more pleasant walk). The resort is about 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport and, as a consequence, you get to watch the steady stream of aircraft in and out. This does not affect the holiday and is just a passing interest. The only downside to the whole experience was the entertainment in the evening which was generally put on by the entertainment staff and involved them miming to music. The only act of interest was an acrobatic group who were amazing! One more thing! Be aware when you arrive at the airport from the UK that the transfer could take anything up to 2 hours, even though you're only 15 minutes from the airport as the company we went with wait for all aircraft to land before transferring to the hotels. I would strongly recommend getting a taxi if you are in Puerto del Carmen (about 15 euros max) much quicker and far more convenient!
All in all a very relaxing holiday in a hotel I would strongly recommend.

Had a week in the Riu Club Pariso Los Piccolos near Purto De Carmen arrived back 21 April. Hotel was lovely but restaurant very crowded, food not brilliant which is unusual for Riu, we actually opted to eat out at lunch time as the choice was so poor. Once again a plea. Please, Please if the late slot for booking in the specialist restaurant is booked, please no children. This is at 8.45pm and is spolit by over-tired children and even in the main restaurant we left it until 9.45 one night to avoid children and there were still children running around. The idea of going in the specialist restaurants is to get peace and quiet and a better food experience.
We travelled with Thompson, rep very scarce got on coach when arrived at airport and said sorry not going with you and left! the return check in at the airport was appalling!! 1hr 20mins to get to check in desk, again reps useless.

Resort lovely, people very friendly as were staff in all bars etc in Purto De Carmen. The only bad experience we had was in a bar run by english staff! Prices for food and drink much cheaper than expected.

On arrival we were told we had been given a free upgrade to a 'suite', which was comfortable and spacious, and very near to our son's room. Both rooms had balcony with nice view of the sea, and were very quiet (as requested). Unfortunately the air con didn't seem to be very efficient and we would have felt quite uncomfortable if the weather had been any hotter. One other gripe regarding the room, as stated in many reviews, the beds are dreadfully hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. (And don't think you can watch TV if unable to sleep - virtually no English-speaking channels!)
Otherwise, the hotel exceeded our expectations: good, varied selection of food, including lots of fruit and salds (the Asian and Mexican restaurants are well worth a reservation); all parts of the hotel are immaculately maintained; service is very efficient, and there are lots of activities going on if that's what you like. (Although we thought the evening entertainment was dire!)
We hired a car for three days and it was great to get out and see some interesting sights on the island. Would strongly recommend the Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua, Fundacion Cesar Manrique, and of course, Timanfaya.
All in all, a great holiday, but now feel we've seen it all and probably wouldn't return.
