My Partner and I stayed at The Beatriz Playa in Matagorda from 29th December 2011 on an all inclusive basis. The hotel is only about 10 minutes from the airport which is really good. We booked with Direct Holidays and the flight there was no problem. We arrived at the hotel about 4pm and check in was quick. The hotel looked large and like a maze. We were given a side sea view room which was clean and very spacious. After dropping off our bags we went for a look around the hotel. The only issue I really have with this hotel was the fact that all the bars and restaurants were underground which i found quite strange. Was very cold when sitting in the bar at night which was rather uncomfortable. This is the only issue i had. The food was okay but if your vegetarian dont go. They bearly catered for us at all. I ended up eating chips most of the week. There are 2 other restaurants you could eat in, one being an Italian which was included in the all inclusive and also a fusion restaurant which i think you had to pay 4 euros each for. We didnt bother with this one. We tried the Italian on a couple of occasions and it appeared to be the same food each time. Was okay but nothing great. I think out of all the meals the breakfast was probably the best. You can get Cava in the morning too if you want.
The entertainment at night was okay seemed to last longer than most hotels in the canaries but wasnt anything great. If you had a room above the bar and went to bed before 12 you would be bothered with noise so best ask for a room on the opposite side.
There is a Spa too but unlike most all inclusive hotels you had to pay for this which to me is odd for a 4 star hotel. I think the only way this hotel has been upgraded to 4 star is because of the spa.
There were plenty of sunloungers every day. There are 2 pools and one is heated and the other was freezing. There is a beach across the road but it isnt anything great.
If you fancy a walk into Puerto Del Carmen dont be fooled by the rep telling you its a 30 minute walk. It isnt. At least a good hour and a bit. Taxis are quite cheap and you can also take a bus as well.
We went to Rancho Texas Park (animal park) which was lovely. If you eat in the restaurant they put on a cowboy show which your eating which is quite good. We also did swimming with Sea Lions which I would recommend to anyone. It was a fab experience.
All in all we had a fab holiday and the hotel was good. I dont think i would go back because of the underground feel it had but dont let this put you off.
As the airport is very near you the planes land going over the hotel all day. This didnt bother us at all. Was good to see and probably the closest you will ever come to feeling a plane underneath you.
