If you want a laid-back, quiet hotel - this is the one for you. The resort itself is quite quiet at the back end of august/early september and this hotel is two streets back from the beach. We were in a second-floor room in the main hotel (not an apartment) and had a great view of the pool area and the sea (in the distance). Everyone seems to be AI here and is a broad mix of (a few) brits, germans, dutch, french and spanish. Food is good and caters for all tastes. Wine and beer is available from breakfast onwards. Be warned that we have heard of 3 people who found there room was double booked. If this happens, stand your ground (if you really need aircon that is). I am not sure if it is the hotel or the tour operators who do this. However, if you are a late arrival you may be bumped out. One couple we talked to were moved to a better hotel when they demanded the room. Housekeeping and cleanliness is very good. At meal times, we found we had to watch our plates and seats as plates were whipped away, or someone took your table if it looked empty.
The entertainment is OK, but nothing to write home about. If you wander out, expect to be asked a hundred times if you want a meal, but they don't bug you like in other resorts. Drink and food in the pubs and restaurants is very good value, with pints as low as 2Euro and 3-course for 10Euro. We didn't sample any, so cant comment on the food. The resort is very quiet and main activity is a walk along the very long promenade.
With the lack of (teenage) kids when we were there, the noise was minimal, and younger kids disappeared of to a kids club somewhere! Even in a busy time, there was little problem getting a bed and there was very little reserving of beds before 10am.
The mixed drinks and cocktail quality ranged from a drop of alcohol to 90% pure! If you get talking to the staff, you can get quite a decent triple! Local drinks all tasted OK, although an option to buy branded did not seem an option.

Room Tip: Rooms on second floor in the main complex mostly have a pool/sea view. 2151 etc all seem to be the b...

One week all inclusive at this hotel was a lovely break with this hotel providing us with all we would expect from a 4 star resort. The food was varied and there was a good selection on offer. I believe a taste for everyone.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor room ,but because the hotel was on a slope we were above the pool. We be...

Arrived on a Sunday evening after 15 min transfer. Check in was quick and efficient. Were given a room on the first floor just upstairs from reception overlooking pool as requested so it is worthwhile requesting this when booking. They had laid on some food for us in the restaurant which was unexpected and a nice touch. Our room was quite spacious with large bathroom and reasonable balcony. At breakfast grab yourselves a full coffee pot and some cutlery and place them on one of the tables that has clean cups on then you can go and get your breakfast. Bit of a faff but just the way they do breakfast at this hotel. Cutlery is set out at lunchtime and dinner though so not such a fuss. Food is definitely 3 star standard. Have read many reviews where people have been raving about the food and awarding it 5 stars etc. I can only assume they have never been to another all inclusive hotel or they only ever go to 3 star hotels. Don't get me wrong the food is ok, there is just very limited choice and it is repetitive. The snacks in the afternoon are cakes and fruit. There are 2 bars, one next to restaurant and one by the apartments. Drinks are good and they will mix up cocktails that are not on the official list which makes a change. Just tell them what you want. You can help yourself to beer, soft drinks and coffee in both bars throughout the day. This is more convenient than having to wait at the bar although if you require anything different you will need to use the bar. No queues though staff serve you very quickly. There are 3 pools and a tiny kids pool. The pool next to the hotel is busiest as people like to be near the food! We found it quieter if you walk through the gardens to the pool near the apartments. The bar there is quieter too. We never struggled to get sunbeds but there are not enough brollies. Make sure you put your towel out by 10 am and you should be ok. Entertainment is usual all inclusive. Felt a bit sorry for them really as staff don't put extra seats out so not many people watching, they don't mind if you take chairs outside from the bar if you need them. The hotel is bigger than it looks on the web. The gardens are nice. The staff are all really nice and friendly. Any problems report them straightaway and they will help. We asked for extra pillows and they were in our room when we got back. The place is kept very clean staff are constantly collecting glasses and wiping tables. Room was kept nice throughout our stay. This was our first visit to Lanzarote and we enjoyed every minute. We are glad we paid the little bit extra to stay in the main hotel. We were given an apartment to use on the last day as a courtesy room to freshen up before going home. Felt like we were in a different hotel. Very basic. Don't want to say more for fear of being sued! Just do yourselves a favour, spend a little more and upgrade to a main room. These rooms have air conditioning too which you really do need. The hotel is 3 minutes walk from the beach. Go left on the prom and after about a mile you will reach few shops and bars. Go right on the prom and after about 3 minutes you will reach the strip of bars and restaurants that just go on and on. Lots of souvenir shops too. So if you fancy a change there is lots of choice. The local restaurants are fantastic. You feel really safe too ideal place for single parents with kids. Actually it is ideal for anyone. Only did one trip with Thomson- lanzarote uncovered. Got to go to the volcanoes and saw the whole island. Will be going back to Puerto del Carmen but will probably stay in another hotel on the waterfront. If you have already booked this hotel don't worry about a thing you will have a great time. Upgrade if you can though.

Room Tip: Ask for high room overlooking pool in main hotel block

We spent 10 days as a family of four at this hotel. It is only 10 mins from the airport but there is virtually no air traffic overhead! We found the hotel rooms and pool area very good - latter not crowded even in August and the pool a very good size for a decent swim. Also no music blaring by the pool! All inclusive was great for all concerned. We hired a car and travelled round the island - all majjor sites within easy reach. We thoroughly enjoyed this holiday- we have been to many Riu hotels and foun dthis one in keeping with their high standards. Only very minor downside- air con could hav ebeen a bit coller in the rooms which could also usefully have wifi

Room Tip: 2nd floor overlooking pool

We arrived 10pm Sunday to book in.We was handed a map with X marks the spot , go find your room !! .
Room as described in other reviews, dated and with no aircon (apartments) hob and fridge , 2 small glasses, 2 small cups, 2 giant pans and a frying pan lol.apartment clean apart from ants. Switly dispatched by cleaners the next day.
Water not supplied by hotel.advised by reception to go buy some from shop and fill small empty bottles from hotel dispensers. Local shop closed at ten.
Food.
Good so far although breakfast is a bit crammed.lunch and evening meal more sedate.
Service poor compared to other RIU hotels we have stayed at. No housekeeping in Wednesdays so make your own bed lol.
Just hope this is a one off poor RIU as we have booked a Tunisian one in June next year.
CONCLUSION
Would we return here ....No. it looks like the group has been buying up the property around the origional hotel and incoperating to the brand but not bringing them up to the usual RIU standard. Outside our room we have a view of what we guess is a filled in swimming pool from the previous site which is now a giant sandpit/ vollyball court lol oh and the sunbeds around the two non main hotel pools are bum breakers .

We are currently mid way through a weeks family holiday at the Riu Olivina and can assure you that the hotel in August is perfect for families with children with plenty of children of different nationalities and activities to keep them entertained. Our 7 year old daughter is especially loving mini club and we especially want to mention the 2 girls who run the mini club and childrens entertainment in the evening, who work tirelessly always with a smile on their face . Food is great with lots of choice! Alcoholic drinks are good as well: cocktails are great, as are the beer and red wine on tap. We can't fault the service and would have no hesitation coming back again. All the bar, waiting and reception staff are very welcoming. Can't comment on the Thompson rep service as never seen him / her since we arrived. Excellent value for money compared with our half board holiday to Greece last year. We will be back!

Just returned from a 2 week stay & it was a game of 2 halves- some examples........

week 1 there were carts at breakfast with chefs making smoothies or handing out cava. Week 2 nothing!

Week 1- a bartender was making mojitos in the evening for guests. Week 2 nothing

Week 1 the pool by the apartments was cleaned & the surrounding area hosed down daily. Week 2 we had to complain 3 times to get the pool cleaned & there was the same rubbish day after day under the sunbeds ( I saw the same piece of lemon from a drink in the same spot for nearly a week!

week 1 there was something "special" being show cooked every evening such as paella or meat. Week 2 nothing. Week 2 became very repetitive foodwise!

Week ! loadsa bacon! Week 2 bacon only available every other day at breakfastime

The only difference was that week 1 appeared to have an excess of Germans & week 2 had far more Brits with their wailing kids! Make your own mind up.
The Rep said that nothing had changed-obviously it had

None of the above were bad enough to ruin an excellent holiday but were noticable

The plusses were the maidservice- excellent. The barstaff were completely mad & became old friends during the period & the hotel is a really nice place to stay. We are looking to return in a couple of years

We visited the Music Hall Tavern during our stay & recommend it- it was hilarious! We also went on the day tour of the island which was interesting

All in all a great holiday but week 2 was not as high a standard in certain areas as week 1.

Hope the above makes sense

John
