Stayed at the hotel for two weeks from the 13th oct. As with most reviews nice hotel very friendly staff, enough choice of food to cover 14 days, entertainment not too bad. No problem with sun beds, pool side quiet and relaxed.
Then all that changed on the Friday of the first week a French company called Club Marmara had taken out a year’s contract with the hotel. To cut a long story short they took over, music blasting by the pool, pool aerobics, line dancing, children running and shouting between sun beds, sitting on peoples sun beds when they had gone to the bar for a drink, pushing in at the restaurant. Even the restaurant staff seemed to be a bit peeved at their behaviour.
We would go back to this hotel again but only when Club Marmara’s contract comes to an end.

Travelled to this hotel in July 2013 with my boyfriend and our friends (19 & 20 years old), looking for a relaxing holiday but with some things to do.

Some points:

- Hotel in excellent location, really close to shops, restaurants, bars, spar supermarket mini golf, beach etc. There are a few really nice restaurants (some very posh & expensive) if you ever get bored of eating at the hotel.

- There was always a wide variety of food choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner (for all inclusive option).

- The pool was VERY cold, however when we stayed in it for a while we got used to the temperature.

- The room was really clean and had everything we needed. Flat screen TV with some good English channels. Safe & air conditioning free of charge. We were on the ground floor but it was still above & overlooking the pool which was lovely.

- There are a few attractions near by like the 'Rancho Texas' zoo with a small water park, but not really much else. The strip of restaurants and shops round the corner from the hotel is the main attraction - as well as tennis courts on the hotel grounds.

- Sunbeds were difficult to get if you came down from your room late - so make sure you reserve a sunbed with a towel before breakfast (this isn't allowed but everyone does it).

- There was no entertainment of an evening EVER... unless you are under 12 years old. This was disappointing as we usually like to have something to watch or listen to while eating.

Overall, this is a good hotel with some things to do nearby & is very child friendly - great for families. The staff are very helpful & we really enjoyed the holiday. We travelled with Thompson on a package holiday to this hotel, and had the all inclusive option for £510 per person.

We returned yesterday from two weeks at the Olivina, and to tell you the truth, it was a very mixed bag.
I'll begin with the positives;
Our hotel room was fine, on the first floor with a view overlooking the pool area and a limited sea view. Plenty of space and storage.
A free safety deposit box, which was appreciated
The hotel was very clean throughout and kept that way with staff forever clearing and cleaning
The staff were excellent, happy, friendly and efficient, special thanks to the bar and restaurant staff who were very good indeed.
Staying all inclusive, the food can become a little boring, but this didn't happen as there was always a varied choice of cooked meats, fish, soups, salads, desserts, fruit, cheeeses etc, all of an excellent quality, I love the Mediterranean diet and was very happy at mealtimes.
There was an option of eating outside which is always pleasant when the sun is shining.
As others have said, the pool area was also well kept with plenty of sunbeds available throughout the day as well as comfortably cushioned chairs.
There was an excellent book exhange area on the first floor which we used several times
......so a good list of positives.....
And now the other side of the coin.......
The reception area is way too small for the number of guests passing through or relaxing there and for the numerous suitcases that always seemed to be around.
The bathroom towels were the sort that you would rip up and use to shine your shoes or to dry off a wet dog. They were rather threadbare and it seemed to take ages to dry off after a bath or shower.
The bedroom had a flat screen TV with 27 channels available, however there was just one English channel, Sky News, fortunately the TV was only on when we got up in the morning or when we were getting ready for dinner.
The layout of the hotel was "different" with an outside covered sloping walkway leading down to the pool area, the restaurant, (which was three adjoining rooms) and the bar and entertainment area, almost as if areas had been added on as an afterthought. All the evening entertainment ( apart from one night, when Chinese acrobats wpuld have hit heir heads on the ceiling) took place indoors which became rather cramped some evenings. The area had a working mens club feel to it.
The in house entertainment was carried out by a resident team of eight young people who focused their "sketch shows" musical quizzes, dancing and music totally and exclusively on Fremch guests, no announcements were made in English at all, so whenever the hotel's animation team took over we and other British guests didn't have the fainted idea what was going on. Thank goodness that outside entertainers came in on alternate evenings, although strangely a couple of acts returned after just a few nights......and performed the same act as before.....not great planning. I should perhaps mention that probably 75% of guests were French, but there were also Brits, Germans, Dutch etc.
Coming out of reception down the slope to the public areas, were situated the hotel's only communal toilets, this arrangement was totally inadequate for the numbers of people using them how had to come from the restaurant, bar / entertainment room and the pool area. This was highlighted one day when the ladies loo was taped off and out of order, females were given a key to an unoccupied bedroom during the closure. There was one step up to both toilets, which is fine for able bodied people, but there was no disabled access toilet which meant the step needed to be negotiated by everyone. I helped a couple of people down from the toilet to their mobility scooters parked in the corridor outside the loo. I would have thought that a respected hotel chain like Riu would have provided disabled access facilities long ago.
That's it really, the good, bad and indifferent. Overall It's a shame that a hotel that could be excellent falls down on just a few points that could be reasonably easily rectified.

Room Tip: if you have mobility problems don't choose a first floor room as there is no lift

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks at the beginning of October, paying around £650 each all inclusive. We emailed ahead asking for an upper floor room (which we got in the main hotel), but when we looked over the balcony we were non too pleased as we were by the delivery entrance. The next morning though we actually changed our mind about the room as the balcony was not overlooked and we could see the sea. During the two weeks we did not see or hear any delivery lorries!
The room was a good size, spotlessly clean and had loads of storage. It was a little dated and all the furniture was old fashioned dark wood. The staff were lovely, everyone had a smile and they always said hello. We used the main pool and it was a really relaxed area, there was very little reserving of sun beds and it didn’t matter what time we went down, there was always a bed. The safes were free (not even a deposit needed) as were the pool towels, just need to ask at reception. The whole complex, including the communal areas, was spotless, never any glasses or crockery left lying for long. My only moan would be the food: breakfast was good as was lunch but the evening meals were not the best, during our first week pork was on the menu every night. The meat was not of the best quality and I personally struggled to enjoy my dinners. Aside from that, we thoroughly enjoyed our two week break and would not hesitate to return to this Riu.

We are just back from a 2week holiday at this hotel. The food was good with multiple choices, the drinks were varied with sometimes over generous measures. Sunbeds always available whatever the time of day. The room was always spotlessly clean and comfortable and self operated air-conditioning. The weather was perfect and the only drawback we found was that there was an awful lot of children some of whom were ill-behaved. It was half-term apparently. But all told we rated it an excellent holiday and would return to this hotel

Room Tip: Make it the hotel. The rooms are air-conditioned

The hotel was OK. I would return again. I think some of the negative reviews were a little unfair.
The room was a good size and very clean.
The pool area was also a good size with a lovely pool. The pool was spotless. There was no sun bed grabbing which made the whole experience far more relaxing than other hotels I've been to in the Canaries.
The drinks were plentiful. No queuing and the help yourself approach worked very well.
Food was plentiful if a little repetitive. There was no pushing or grabbing in the restaurant. The whole experience was pleasant. Never any trouble getting a table whenever you chose to eat.
Pool towels were available but you had to ask. Free wi-fi available but you had to ask. If I hadn't read a review about this before I went I would not have known.
Met many people who go every year because it is good value for money.
In excellent position for shops, bars and beach.
However I have always been to a riu palace before and I was shocked at the difference between a 4* palace and this 4*.
So it does what it says on the tin......

We stayed at the Riu for 2 weeks in July. Overall we were extremely impressed considering what we paid.

We stayed in the apartments, ours was very spacious with a nice balcony. There is no air con in the apartments, however we opened the windows and patio doors in the evening and used the ceiling fan as well as taking a small fan from home so we didn't find the lack of air con a problem-I certainly wouldn't pay the extra money to be in the hotel just to have air con!

It was lovely to have 3 pools on the complex, this meant they were never over crowded and we never had problem trying to find a sunbed. Also really nice to have a bar next to the apartment pool serving until 6pm.

The food was good, there was always something to eat although it was repetitive but we didn't mind this. There was plenty of choice, a big salad bar, pasta, pizza, chips, meat, fish and lots of desserts and ice cream. I was also impressed with the range of drinks included in the all-inclusive (cocktails etc. all included).

The evening entertainment was hit and miss, however we enjoyed sitting outside in the evening having a cocktail even if the entertainment wasn't great.

The resort itself was great as we purposely picked somewhere quiet, which it was. Huge beach although normally too windy to sun bathe- it was nice to walk along at night. 5 min walk to bars and restaurants although it wasn't 'in your face' which we liked.

The staff were also excellent- we felt like they actually wanted our custom which was a welcome change compared to some hotels we have stayed in where you feel as if you are doing them a favour!

Overall an extremely enjoyable holiday-would definitely return for the price we paid we thought it was a bargain!
