visited here for 10days from the 25th July until the 4th august. 10min in a taxi from airport. Apartments are very close to main strip. But isn't noisey at all.
Staff at reception were friendly and helpful. Apartments were very clean cleaners come in every day apart from a wed & sun. clean towels and sheets. Beds are very firm
The staff who work in the snack bar are very friendly and food is very good and reasonably priced
I only have 2 negative faults with this hotel.
people taking sunloungers early in the morning Wouldn't mind if they were actually using them but 50% aren't being used although towels have been placed on sunloungers. No one seems to supervise this problem.
Very late at night around 12am kids running around screaming. No one supervising this problem.

Room Tip: Appears to not have much sun on balconys

Second holiday of 2014. I must admit, on arrival, my stomach immediately dropped as the overcast weather made the pool area look somewhat poor (not helped by the route our cab driver took to take us there). However, upon checking in and going to our rooms, we realised things were soon to change for the better. Fully furnished apartments, flat screen TV's with British TV channels (although I doubt you'll have time to watch them), fully stocked cupboards including: pots, pans, plates, mugs, glasses etc. Cleanliness could not be faulted, and even when the cleaners did attend to our rooms (every day other than Wednesday), they were incredibly friendly and talkative, which isn't something we're used to! The next morning, and every day after, the sun shining only made us realise further what a great choice of apartments we'd chosen. Pool bar, free Wi-Fi, friendly residents and perfect sized pool (including children's pool). Although not strictly relevant to La Penita, you're likely to be blown away with the amount of restaurants, shops and beaches surrounding the apartments; which will only make your holiday that bit better to know that, after a great night/day out, you'll be returning to apartments with a homely feel. La Penita covers all aspects of a great holiday experience.

Room Tip: Any room you choose is likely to be as good as the one we stayed in, but if you can, request a room...

Bar staff very nice like, however bar closed by 8pm so no evening entertainment as advertised. Good bar snacks. Rooms not throughly cleaned, my room was not cleaned for three days due to the cleaner misunderstanding me when she asked if I wanted my room cleaning and I said yes. Bed linen, towels need renewing as quite holey.
Hotel is situated in a great spot near supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants.
I just think that the price should be lowered to reflect the quality of accommodation and the fact that not everything is as advertised.
Don't stay on ground floor due to cockroaches.

We have just returned after 9 nights in La Penita. I had originally booked accommodation in Matagorda but changed at the last minute to La Penita as I thought the other was too far out, I am so glad we did!

I honestly could not fault anything about these apartments and I have no idea how they are only 2 star. We had requested a sea view and were obliged with a lovely apartment on the first floor overlooking the sea. The apartments were very spacious, I was expecting a pull out sofa bed but we had a separate bedroom as well as the pull out if needed. Apts are really well equipped, pots, pans, microwave, kettle etc they were cleaned everyday except Wed and Sat, sheets were changed and towels replaced etc.

Some people have mentioned sun beds, people do put towels on them early however, we never had an issue getting beds and we left it until 11 / 12 to go down on a few mornings.

Would also recommend the food in the pool bar, simple menu for snacks etc, but food is cooked to order and is really lovely.

Overall honestly you won't beat these apartments for value and everything else!

Tip - go to the Sorrento Di Italia about .5km from apartments, amazing food! Also a great breakfast in Pinnochio restaurant for €2!

So where to start
Arrival was fine courteous pleasant etc and helpful, but based on a early start we needed some chill ax time.
Shown to ground floor apartment no more than twenty yards from the main shopping strip.Nice size apartment but no where near the pool as we had asked
However want we hadn't anticipated was the building work going on in the apartments above.Guess being a all year block there's never a good time but wasn't prepared for the constant noise and banging.
To its credit the owner hunted around and found us a much better apartment 220,ideally situated by the pool
Positives are, very helpful staff, great location, ideal for centre and amenities, clean except 1st apartment was very dated in decor and fridge look very well used.

Negatives are, very two star at best, basic bits and bobs but enough in apartment, towel policy on sun loungers needs enforcing as it's very annoying, pool bar was pants and didn't open past 6 so forced u off site, but not necessarily a bad thing, tele sucks, wifi at best is patchy
Summary get to the pool quick, don't expect too much, hunt out value for money food and drink on the main strip

All in all I can't get why this is ranked 6

After trawling through many options online, we went for a package deal at La Penita. Really enjoyed our stay there as it was centrally located and did what it said on the tin: Quiet side street but very close to the beach. We used the alley way marked "beach" often and it spits you out by the duty free shop/Sol y Sombra (?) bar or if you use the proper gate, past the Mucky Duck pub. Can recommend the latter, though usually not a fan of British pubs in foreign climes, the staff were very friendly there and helpful. However, this should be another review.
Reception welcoming and gave us an apartment that was "quiet" but overlooking the pool. Lovely, but I have to agree that it got a tad too noisy and staff did not seem to bother what it said on the sign and enforce the rules. Kids could go riot on occasions which I thought wasn't on. The same goes for those travellers reserving sunbeds and this time, they weren't Germans! Half-joking aside, it put us off using the pool more than once. Mind you, if the beach is this close, clean and tidy - who needs a pool? As the apartments have no air-con (which we did not expect) it was a toss up between sticking ear plugs in and having an airy flat or shutting the balcony windows in doors and being in stuffy accommodation. Something might need tweaking here.
The place was clean but not spotless. Ice tray and a plate had a hair on which wasn't overly appetizing so just as well we brought our own ice cube bags. We got over that quickly but again, a bit more attention to detail would make people all the happier I think. Kitchen was well equipped and in working order. I liked that washing up liquid and toilet roll was provided and the latter replenished, which is not always a given.

Apart from those minor points, we felt very comfortable there and would recommend it. What we particularly loved was the fact that we could have a late check-out for just 15 EUR. That was fantastic as it bought us another day, given that our flight was not till 20.00.

We did use the pool bar a couple of times and staff were friendly, efficient and breakfast good. Not used any of the entertainment which we nearly missed but that's good - after all, we did not book an AI holiday but one where we could chill out and La Penita is a great place to stay for that.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet (pool?) room and one on higher floor. Staff keen to meet your request and did for us...

Myself, family and friends have been staying at La Penita on and off for the last 15 years and consider it to be our home from home in the sunshine. We love staying at these apartments, Susi the Manager and all the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is great with everything within walking distance with lots of restaurants and bars, something to suit all tastes. This time we stayed for 3 weeks from June running into July. It is nearly 4 years since we were here and whilst I do not wish to seem too negative there are a few things that I feel need to share with reviewers:

1. We found out that a number of the apartments on the complex have been sold to Spanish people and they obviously can use all of the facilities. At weekends, especially Sundays, the families, friends and relatives descend onto the pool area and create what can only be described as feeling and sounding like a 'Spanish Blackpool,' very, very loud. The children run around unsupervised and dive bomb into the pool. The children are left to roam the complex during the evening up to 9.30 - 10.00pm. One Friday evening a group of them were playing hide and seek and running up and down the balconies outside our apartments for 2 hours. They and some of the adults are using the pool up to 9.00pm at night when it quite clearly states in the apartment brochure that the pool should not be used after 7.00pm. Is there one rule for them and a different rule for us? On Saturdays and Sundays we didn't stay around the pool.

2. We all know that we are not supposed to reserve sunbeds but as some people were out at 7am reserving beds and if you want to be in a particular area then you have to be up early to put your towels out because of this. We then went down after breakfast for most of the day. Some of the reserved beds were not used and this is really annoying. One elderly guy came down like clockwork every day at 7.30am, reserved 2 beds an umbrella and a table and pegged it all down, without fail he then removed them at 5.30pm, he never used them in all of the three weeks we were there! More supervision needed around the complex both during the day and night time.

3. Some of the towels, bedding and pillows need replacing as they are very tatty. Bathroom cleaning not great, front of toilet and under toilet rim quite dirty.

We are all for people enjoying themselves and are not averse to noise and love to see kids enjoying themselves, but this time the atmosphere had changed from what we are used to.

I hope the management take on board our comments and hopefully we can enjoy many more happy times at La Penita.
