“New look of old hotel”
Reviewed 24 October 2013 via mobile

My wife, my 15- year- old son and I stayed two nights at Pukha Nanfa Hotel ( 21-23 Oct 2013) This is our first visit to Nan Province. We chose this hotel because we knew from a magazine that this 80- year- old hotel was sold to a Thai bank tycoon some three years ago and has been renovated and decorated to a mixture of old and modern styles.
The hotel locates in the middle of the town, just a stone throw to the market. It is three stores teak building. There are 7 guest rooms on the second floor and another 7 guest rooms on the third floor. Each floor has common area where you can take a seat, chat or sip a cup of coffee or tea. ( free, self service) There are also verandas at street side where you can watch the market activities on early morning and dawn.
The outlooking of the building is plain, but the interior design is excellent. The atmosphere of old hotel remains well preserved, and blended with modern design.
The receptionists were expecting us when we arrived. The registration was fast and simple. We got our welcome drinks ( herb) then browsed around. The hotel is small, but every corner has something that piqué our interest. The library inside contains a lot of Thai contemporary novels. What amaze me more are the hand writings of four reputable Thai writers who wrote some praising notes or poems to the hotel. Besides, the hotel owner turns himself to be a novel writer. You can find his book in every guest room, and on the book shelve at the entrance.
Since there is no elevator, we have to walk upstairs. My room is no 1, it's de luxe. My son's room is no2. , just opposite. De luxe contains a sitting room, so it's more spacey. Anyway, I can say that even standard room is big enough for every big guy. The interior decoration is superb. Beddings are clean and cosy. TV, refrigerator, telephone, safe, free WiFi and air condition are all complete.
During my stay, the WiFi didn't work well. But the prompt response and the attempt to fix the problem of the hotel management made me feel impressive.
I slept well at night and woke up early in the morning. I saw a lot of monks walk to the market. I went across the street, bought things from a vendor, presented alms to the monks and walked back to the hotel with truly happiness. All thing 's done in tens minutes.
Thanks for the perfect location of the hotel.
The breakfast comprises a few things. But no one complained. All menu are delicious. I took ham, sausage, fried eggs, a bowel of rice congee, dumplings,a cup of congee,a glass of orange juice and some fruits. Even I'd like to taste some more things, my stomach denied.
I asked the hotel for a van to take us around. We were lucky to have Mr. June our driver, who later proved not only to be a very good driver, but also an excellent tour leader.
It's a shame that our tour schedule was full packed. We had no enough time to ride the bicycles the hotel prepared for us. We saw many tourists ride in bicycle lane around the town. We saw city tram pass by. On the day we left, we knew for certain that we will come back soon.
Lastly, we thank for the token (a CD cultural Thai song) the hotel management gave us before we left.

I totally agree this hotel should be ranked as the best hotel in Nan. The location is awesome right in the city center. The staff as so well in services. They are all great. The room and the bathroom are well beyond my expectation. For the breakfast, although not so many of choices, but both Asian and Western options provided are perfect. I have no doubt being back there again for my next time in Nan.

This was a wonderful place to stay! It seemed to be a traditional Thai hotel, complete with taking off our shoes at the bottom of the stairs. (there were no elevators) All rooms were air-conditioned, which was very welcome in March. Each floor (there were two above the lobby/restaurant floor) had a common veranda space overlooking the street. Rooms with private bath were very clean with wonderful linens. Breakfasts were delicious with traditional ThaI food and some western choices. The hotel lent us bicycles each day for our tours around Nan and the staff was e tremely accommodation, friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All are good!

I spent two days at Pukha Nanfa, which has been renovated recently. It is the oldest hotel in Nan province and built by teak wood. After the renovation, the hotel has been perfect. The old charm is preserved with a modern touch. The hotel is clean and comfortable with nice staffs. The location is the best. It's at the central of Nan and you can walk to key temples and fresh markets night and day. The hotel is small, so advance booking is recommended.

Room Tip: The delux room in the top floor is very nice

This hotel is a real triple A boutique experience in a coutry where everything is "boutique." The building is gorgeous, the rooms impeccable, the public spaces overlooking the street, invite lounging and people watching, and the staff is 1000% helpful. Wonderful base for exploring the area.

The Pukha Nanfa hotel in Nan is the extremely well executed dream of one of Thailands most influential banking tycoons.
Every detail has been carefully considered and the 80 plus year old wooden building still maintains its original values.
Add to this the most friendly staff one could dream of and yes you have arrived in what is a REAL boutique NOT just a funky dream.
We stayed for 4 days and we could not find any issues that could be improved.
Well done - thank you khun Banthoon.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms have considerable more space but even the smallest rooms are appropriate

You may have ventured to Thailand to experience the "Land of Smiles", but few dare to go beyond the beaten path to truly live in its beauty and culture. That's why I recommend the Pukha Nanfa Hotel in Nan. We were met at the door with a warm welcome, refreshing drink and a cool towel to wipe away the debris of our travels. It is a Heritage Hotel but has been recently renovated. The combination of rich teak wood and new and old artwork from the area is stunning.
We needed a bit of rest before exploring the town so we went right to our room. It was located on the 3rd floor and overlooked the busy main street. It was nicely decorated with two beds larger than twins but smaller than double beds. The comforters were soft and memorable. The quiet but effective A/C was appreciated since we were travelling during "Hot Season" and I do mean Hot!!
(Although we did not have the occasion to enjoy it, each floor has an open air common area with comfortable chairs and sofas where you can relax together. Nice touch!)
Soon we were off to visit the night market which is right outside their front door. The temples of the city are also within walking distance and are impressive. Free bicycles are available too.
In the morning they serve breakfast that has something for everyone. Hearty and delicious Thai soups, yogurt and croissants or an omelette and toast. The staff if very attentive and some speak English.
Bangkok and Chiang Mai are nice, but why not really experience Thailand knowing there is a hotel with a perfect location, nice staff and comfortable room?!
