“Superb experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2011

First class hospitality all the way - the most pleasant, helpful and efficient staff deliver a seamless service in the most beautiful and interesting of hotels. We arrived late at night and in each of our rooms found a table laid with a beautiful selection of salads and cheeses plus fruit had been set for us. This, we discovered, was typical of the thoughtfullness with which guests are treated in this wonderful hotel. Set on a hillside and laid out like a village with small squares, pools linked by bridges and restaurants tucked away here and there - it is fun to explore. For those who may have mobility issues the grounds may offer challenges unfortunately, though where ever there are steps in the beautiful gardens there will also be an alternative path but very little flat ground on this gorgeous resort BUT if you want to live the dream this is the place to look for it - enjoy!

Location: the best location one can think. Right in front of the beach in the center of Costa Adeje so you feel like the beach is part of the hotel although it is a public beach.

Ambience: it is large resort with lots of facilities so you feel it has all you need for a great vacation. The views from the main building are outstanding. What you see on the web is how it looks in reality.

Room: this was not the first time we stayed and we understood that the rooms vary. There are renovated and not-renovated-yet rooms. This time we had room with a private terrace, which was absolutely fabulous but the room itself was old and quite small for a family of 4. Once you put an additional bed, there is not much space.

Some rooms may be too far from the beach and the breakfast restaurants so take into account when booking. Also, the hotel area is very hilly and if you are physically challenged or with small kids or with a stroller, it is quite an effort to walk from the main building to the lower located pool area or to the beach. One can get a hotel buggy but it’s not always convenient to wait for them. Ordering a buggy is not as straightforward as the hotel wanted us to believe.

Service: service personnel has become very relaxed and lazy, the hotel apparently is spoiled by the number of guests it gets (in high season). You ask staff for something and they make you feel they are doing you a favor. This is almost everywhere – in the pool restaurants, in the spa, etc. Only occasionally we saw a caring member of personnel. Also reception/concierges were the exception.

Reception: efficient, English-speaking. The concierges were quite friendly and helpful.

Breakfast: this is a star! Huge abundance of anything we wanted. We enjoyed trying different freshly squeezed juices and mixed cocktails, various cheeses, etc

Food: except for the breakfast and Japanese restaurant, other restaurants deteriorated in quality compared to the previous time we stayed. The beach restaurant La Hacienda was my favorite restaurant in the past but now served almost junk food. Meals prepared for kids were particularly of bad quality. Probably they replaced a cook who could not care less. The Italian restaurant was so-so. Quality in the Japanese restaurant was much better.

Spa: this is a great facility but a joke service. 1-hour massages lasted 40 and 45 minutes, and were performed with such (lack of) care as if it was a 3-star hotel. The pool with different water currents is something unique and the waterbed is something to try. But again the non-caring service personnel including the spa reception spoils the whole experience.

Kids: kids club is quite small. The lady working there was helpful and genuinely caring about the children. The kids club's closing so early is a nuisance as often we wanted kids to stay a bit longer there, and it was not possible.

Despite the absolutely stunning set of facilities, we would not go again this hotel as this is a very guests UN-friendly hotel (we will try Abama next time). You pay a healthy rate and you expect top quality. Every day mediocre quality and poor service...

Room Tip: Get one with a terrace - worth to pay the premium.

Just back from a week here; having been nervous about what Tenerife would bring, we were very impressed with this hotel. For a couple of £k, with an Easyjet flight what do you expect - this place is excellent. The resort is full of on the whole, like minded, decent, sophisticated european people - no chavs in sight. Food was good, service brilliant, room excellent and a great winter break. We will be back.

Room Tip: Avoid being next to lift (that includes service lift)

We stayed in this hotel for a long weekend and found it to be one on the best hotels we have ever stayed at, the service and the food was second to none and the staff were so warm and friendly. They really made us feel welcome. This hotel is like a palace and it is definitely fit for a king... I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that is going to Tenerife as you will not be dissapointed with your stay there. The Spa at the hotel was out of this world and is the perfect place to go to unwind and relax. Again one of the best experiances I have had at a Spa.We would go back in a heart beat. I would also recommend you try San Marco Italian Pizza restaurant within walking distance from the hotel as there food was delicious, non expensive and the staff were very friendly. Muchas gracias Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque Resort.

Room Tip: I`m sure all the rooms live up to the standard of this amazing hotel.*****

I stayed here with my family late October and felt the experience was good but not great. First impressions were excellent but the room was certainly disappointing. After three nights of noise, very late at night, from a service road I later found out, I finally asked to move to a quieter part of the hotel. The rooms are compact and not impressive. After enjoying several years of five star accommodation from various hotels around the globe they just about live up to the level required.
I also felt the food and some of the hotel restaurants (7 in total) had limited choice and failed to impress. I would certainly recommend you think carefully before deciding to go half board as you have to pay more for several 'extras' on the menu.
One superb and extremely GREAT part of the holiday was the hotel staff. They were professional and very friendly throughout the holiday. Everyone there wanted to help and go out of there way to make sure guests had eveything they wanted. Simply great service.

Room Tip: Dont stay in room 637

Having stayed the second time in the hotel (and several times in Tenerife), we continue to like it and will return. The hotel is ideally located if you wish to stroll along the very long walkway (or jog in the morning) or enjoy the beach. There are several pleasant restaurants and bars in walking distance, but not the busy nightlife of other areas. The hotel, the pool area and the gardens are large and have a lot of character, architecturally well done with many surprisingly cosy areas.
The hotel is ideal to relax, but has enough activity and opportunities not to be bored too quickly (or in case of one of the rare rainy days when one stays in the hotel). Positively to mention the big and very good Spa, with various professional services and a quiet modern atmosphere. The several restaurants are all very well and the food is worth its price and good (some could improve in service attitude). Service in general in the hotel is good, with some outstanding friendly staff members (e.g. door to the beach, beach area), some with improvement possibilities (e.g. staff with formal dressing seldom greats you). Requests were attended and resolved efficiently. The rooms are not large but have enough space to store and are nicely furnished - the bathrooms are comparatively big and probably recently renovated. Some rooms have a very nice view on the beach and the (night) lights of the city
Overall not a cheap hotel, but worth the money and ideal if you like to stay close to the various beaches and shopping opportunities.
