“Invasion Of The Bean Counters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

We have stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions and, as I have pointed out in previous reviews, and has been posted by other reviewers, it does not qualify as a five star hotel despite charging five star prices.
The hotel is in an excellent location and the pool and garden areas are first class. The staff are on the whole very friendly and helpful although the bar service tends to let them down on occasion. Again, as other reviewers have pointed out, the bedrooms are somewhat dated with the bathrooms in particular being in dire need of refurbishment – having to negotiate a shower curtain and clamber into a bath to have a shower is not the easiest of tasks when you are of advanced years.
Since our last visit the “bean counters” have swung into action with the soap and toiletries being replaced by “squeezy” bottles which are almost impossible to use if you have arthritic fingers which many of the hotel’s elderly guests will have – we had to buy cakes of soap at the local supermarket. The hotel has also responded to the many complaints made over the years regarding the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms but has done so by imposing swingeing charges for a kettle and tea bags. Finally, the drinks in the bar are now served by using measures – I can honestly say that this is the only hotel, bar or restaurant I have ever been in Spain where this practice applied.
While no doubt these changes will make some impact on the “bottom line” they are, in my view, petty and unworthy of an establishment claiming to be five star and frankly leave a bad taste.
On a positive note we have always enjoyed our holidays at the Jardines De Nivaria and will probably return in the future but its report card would have to read “could do better”.
Finally, as I have posted in previous reviews it is impossible, despite my best efforts, to get a really hot cup of coffee in the bar – lukewarm seems to be the best that can be achieved.

Thank you very much for your comment here on TA.
We are very sorry that we did not meet your expectations 100%. For environment reason we decided to put the dispensers in the bathromms, after asking our guests during a long period to find out if this would work for us. And it did. But we can also understand your point and would like to offer you to contact us before or during your next stay, to solve the "soap problem" for you. And also the "hot coffee problem", so that you can enjoy a cup of coffee as you like it.

We hope to hear from you and to see you again in our hotel.

We remain at your entire disposal and assure you our best services at all times.

Kind regards,

the Management.

I booked this hotel because of the no. 1 rating on tripadvisor (having previously stayed at gran hotel Bahia del duque). Generally it's a very attractive hotel, especially around the pool and terrace areas. I did upgrade to a side sea view. And upon checkin was told we were upgraded to a new comfort room. It was clean, new and modern. It was in the guajara block which was ok but our terrace overlooked the side street and apartments. It was also a terrace which was not very private as it was connected to 2 or 3 rooms next door to ours. What I did like about being in the guajara was the nice sun terrace above. Breakfast had plenty of choice but think would be nice to be seated at a table rather than a free for all and finding your own! Had a nice meal in cascada al fresco one evening. Struggled at lunchtime at the pool bar as no salads on offer. Too many burgers, sandwiches and fries on offer. Ate at la cupola which was very good but the atmosphere let it down unfortunately as there was only 3 tables dining that evening. It was so quiet in there. We made a point of saying they could do with some background music. Half hour later the music came on, unfortunately it jumped every few minutes. Made us laugh! Very nice food though! On a bad note I haven't been in many 5 star hotels where you're not offered complimentary water in your room & a particular gripe of mine, we had to rent a coffee machine for €35 which included 20 pods. Would expect to find one in your room anyway or at least tea/coffee making facilities, of which there was none. We had a nice relaxing holiday and also were allowed to keep our room on as we had a late flight.

Thank you very much for having stayed with us and for taking the time to write a comment here on TA. We are glad to know that you enjoyed your stay with us in general.
We do offer coffe machines free of charge in our superior suites, presidential suites and in our royal suites, but not in the other rooms. It is correct, that we sell a tea package for € 15,00 per package. It inlcudes the kettle, 1l of water and 10 tea bags.
We will consider your comment about the dishes offer in our Cascada restaurant, when changing the menu again. Thank you for your honest words.
Please apologise the little music incidence in La Cúpula restaurant. The music system was broken, as you could notice.

We hope that it was not your last stay with us and would like to see you again in our hotel.
Please do not hesitate to contact us, if there is anything you might need o need to know.

Kind regards,

the Management.

Went last year as a special treat but had to go again this year as couldn't stand the thought of going anywhere as this was so fantastic !!!!!
Still is.....but few things that weren't as good as last visit but nothing really major
lovely toiletries we had last year have been replaced by these awful dispenser things on the wall they were were very awkward to use
The Sun beds around the pool were cramped, not like last year .. Previously mentioned by another reviewer, management reply was part of lawn being re seeded.. Mmmm the only part we saw reseeded was just a small section, not enough for all the sun beds to be so close together.?
Reservation of sun beds on the beautiful new terrace .... All the front ones were always taken and most of them never used until well after 11am and people just using the chairs up there just to use as clothes horses
One thing that has been complained so many times and I completely agree is the petty rule about not being able to put anything in the fridge. Now if you are wanting to take things out of the mini bar to put in your things then fair enough I can understand the management not being happy with that but if you just move things around to make way for a carton of milk then cant see the problem. For a 5 star I find it bad that they don't supple kettle for making a cuppa, I've stayed in less quality hotels and kettle has been provided free of charge
But oh hang on. .... They do supply one .... BUT charge you 15 euro a week ... Not on and understand why this causes a lot of complaints on here
Having said that we always take our own kettle, had no trouble in putting a carton of milk in the fridge but managed it without takings thing out
Reading through the hotel info book it states "it should not be necessary for you to bring in any snacks or drinks into hotel as everything is available "...Yes at a price and not always what you want, found this a bit of a cheek to be honest if I want to go and buy some nibbles from the supermarket, have them at lunchtime then sorry but I will and we did ,always careful never to leave any mess of course as could encourage unwanted guests
Would return as the positives of staying here far outweigh my niggle
Our room was only standard but beautiful we had our own bit of garden with sun beds, umbrella and sea view ....room was kept spotless and a big thank you to all in housekeeping
Breakfast fantastic but did miss the lovely blue cheese that was on last year. Yes it can get very busy but go in about half 8 and it's quieter All the staff were so friendly especially one girl who had the most lovely smile and it never left her face... A great way to start your day
Nice and quiet during the day on the new terrace which is fantastic and lovely view now it's all glass fronted .... But of course you get the self obsessed who want to shout as loud as they can on their mobiles !!
Great location nice area bus stops close by and mainly adult only ... Heaven
Sadly can't go next year as other plans but year after hoping to re visit and will look forward to a third visit without a douby

Once you've found a good hotel you're reluctant to go sampling other venues and the Jardines de Nivaria clearly stands out as the best hotel in Tenerife. From the welcome as you step onto the premises to the final goodbye you're in for a treat. I've travelled extensively over the years and many hotels promote themselves as friendly and efficient but can in reality be quite inpersonal, but not here at the Jardines de Nivaria.

We've stayed at this hotel four times, the last one in April 2014. Before we left we were invited to meet the manager for drinks to review our holiday. How many times does that happen in your hotel? The manager was keen to find out how we really found the hotel and asked what could they do better? From first thing in the morning (I was up at 7.00am doing my exercises at the poolside) to the end of the night, the staff are pleasant, talkative and very helpful. Nothing seemed to much for them.

The hotel generally has two seasons; a winter season, September to April where the majority of the clientèle are over 50 and a summer season that runs from May to August where there is a much younger age group. The entertainment changes to cater for the different season's.

Whatever time you go the food is exceptional with ample choice from the buffets to an a la carte dining experience.

One feature I love is the heated swimming pool. The sun loungers are comfortable and every night they are covered over with a waterproof cover. You're spoilt for choice for sunbathing locations, round the pools, in the gardens or on the sea-view terrace.

Location is perfect with shopping centres within 5 minutes walking and restaurants galore. We stayed bed and breakfast and used the local restaurants each night. All the restaurants had staff that spoke good English so there's no need to stay in the hotel.

All-in-all a brilliant hotel that's at the top of the trip advisor reports and well justified.

Room Tip: We had a poolside room on the ground floor that allowed us to get straight to the pool and sun loung...

I booked this hotel after seeing the great reviews on Tripadvisor but what a disappointment in reality. Let me just say that I do not feel we are the target market for this hotel as during our stay 1-6 april (6 nights) the average age of its clientele was 70 +. We are in our mid to late 40s, travel extensively and worldwide and always stay in 5* hotels and believe me this is definitely not 5*. One positive - it has good wifi.

First the good, housekeeping is very good, towels changed twice a day and we had clean bedding every day. The communal areas are well maintained and immaculately clean. Breakfast inc bacon is cooked fresh to your personal taste but be aware its very busy at breakfast and you may struggle to find a decent table. the majority of the staff are very welcoming and cheerful although but the staff in the pool bar serving area are not, we had lunch there on 2 occasions and both times the waiter was miserable, it wasnt great value for money and the menu was very limited- eg no salads

Second the bad- why would anyone think a shower over a cramped dark bath with a shower curtain suitable for a 5* hotel?? what decade is this!! i would not even expect this of 3* accommodation . The bathroom is very very old fashioned, and although clean has no luxury about it at all.
The furniture in the rooms is also missed matched and of poor cheap quality with no style or elegance.
More bad- sunbeds- you are packed in around the pool areas like sardines , if you move there is a stampede to take your place. Whilst we were there the majority of sunbeds had towels on them by 9am which may be the reason that most of the occupants of the hotel were in bed by 9pm!- the good thing about this was the hotel was very quiet at night.

Believe me we are not party people and our idea of a good holiday is a nice meal in a good restaurant and we are generally back to our room by 11pm . We did call in the Tiffany bar on a couple of nights but the appalling entertainment and bad bar service quickly made us not bother calling for a nightcap. There seems to be a shortage of staff both around the pool and in the bar coming to take your drink order and if you go to the bar the staff there are a little aloof about you coming in to request a drink. Although the 2 women taking drink orders around the pool were very nice.

Ugly- the hideous unit in the bathroom - and the bathroom is dark pokey and badly lit

The location of the hotel is okay but take my advice and always turn left when coming out of reception as if you turn right the area is decidedly down market. We paid £1500.00 for 6 nights bed and breakfast and for that kind of money there are better hotels in better places to visit

Room Tip: I emailed ahead via tripadvisor to make certain requests but upon arrival the reception said they ha...

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion about your holiday with us. We are very sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We always try to make the stay of our clients as enjoyable as possible, but we are not able to please everyone, even if we would like to.
It is correct that we still have some rooms that have to be refurbished but many other rooms are already. Please understand that we cannot close the hotel to refurbish the rooms and we have to do it bit by bit. The standard nowadays is different to the standard 17 years ago and we are updating the rooms whenever we can.
We don't like our guests to reserve the sun beds and ask them not to do so. Nevertheless they keep ding it and it is a bit complicated to stop them doing it. But at least we offer many sun beds and one should always be able to find one.

Thank you very much for having stayed with us. We wish you all the best for the future.

Spent 9 nights at the beginning of March in this wonderful hotel.
Food amazing - staff helpful - nothing was too much trouble.
Stunning pools and gardens - ideal location gated access to the
sea front.
Luxurious room - very quite at night - no noise.
Will be back

Room Tip: We had a Junior Suite on the ground floor
