My husband and I have just returned fro this hotel yesterday.Having travelled with Thomsons for 15 years at a variety of hotels/locations/cruises etc. I am disappointed that for the first time I am having to write a negative review.
On arrival the hotel is very impressive with a long sweeping marble entrance which leads into the main open plan reception/ sofa seating area/bar/entertainment area. It is very clean but very minimalist. This is the only area where you can sit in the hotel apart from aoutside round the pools. The area where the entertainment takes place is in one corner and consists of a large group of plastic chairs at one side of the bar. It is very claustrophobic.
We could not fault our room which was on the 7th floor (as we had asked for a high floor room). It was cleaned daily and there was adequate storage and a fantastic walk-in shower which was a pleasant change from the usual bath with a shower over it. Sleepwise we were fine apart from every night there were thoughtless people coming back to their rooms in the early hours shouting about but that's not the hotel's fault.
The pool area is divided into three areas on three levels so there are a lot of steps to deal with. We liked the highest level where the infinity pool was and it was nice and quiet. Then there was another level with just sun beds on it and finally at the bottom was the heart shaped pool with the bar. If you wanted a drink you had to fetch it yourself all day and there was one man serving at the bar. You might think this was a bit fussy to complain about but where ever we've gone this has always happened and you are on hliday after all. Who wants to go down two flights of steps to get a drink when you've just got out of the pool?
NOW ON TO THE FOOD !!! Firstly you had to go into the restaurant on the 1st floor for lunch or have a prepacked sandwich from a fridge at the side of the pool bar - there was no menu or option to have a bar snack by the pool so you had to time when you went into the pool so you weren't wet through when you went into the restaurant. Secondly they served the same menu for lunch that they later served for dinner and it got tedious!!!! There was a range of salads and various mixtures of cold vegetables, potato salad in mayonnaise etc., pizza, spaghetti bolognaise sauce that was just in a big banmarie and they warmed a spoonful up in a frying pan with some spaghetti when you wanted it, always a big pan of paella on the go, fish or chicken or some tough meat they either called pork or steak fillet or if you wanted a burger it was veal. If that had been just the lunch menu we could have put up with it but it was the same at night!! As for sweets it was always a few little squares of different colour sponges, fresh fruit or icecream. I have to say the icecream was very good.

To sum up we loved costa adeje as a place but decided that if we had booked the luaby hotel on a bed and breakfast basis we woudn't have really found fault as there were plenty of cheap restaurants to eat out at each night. I can recommend the Aberdeen Steak House round the corner of the hotel as we ate there one night because we were so fed up of the food at the hotel. You do begrudge having to eat out though when you have paid all-inclusive.

The Luabay is really a 3* hotel and I was astonished to find that as it is the first year that it has been on Thomsons books as a Platinum but the rep told me they based it on the hotels previous guests comments and on what the Luabay chain said they would do to upgrade ti when they took it over last year. To my mind Thomsons shouldn't give it that grade until they hve had at least one years feedback from customers and this experience has taught me that I will never again book a Thomsons Platinum hotel that has not been on their books for at least two years!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms get the sun but are not private. We were on the opposite side and had a partial sea...

Going all inclusive in Adeje is a complete waste of time !!
There are so many bar's and restaurants at amazingly low prices.Don't ruin your holiday by going all inc. Hotel was great,But by being all inc ruins it.

Stayed here from the 28 th June until the 5th July and can not fault the hotel one bit. We stayed on the 4th floor and had a great view of the sea and town itself. Weather was gorgeous as expected. The hotel was spotless couldn't fault it at all, waiters, receptionist, cleaners couldn't do more for you, they always go out of their way for you. Food lovely always a wide choice to choose from hot and cold food. Do not at all know why people leave negative reviews for but you can't please everyone, beach 5mins walk away plenty of bars, shops and eateries to choose from. Entertainment was good elvis and beetles night was good. Infinity pool lovely, very quite so plenty of time to relax, entertainment happens in the lower pool great to still watch from the infinity pool though so had best of both if your not one for joining in. Highly recommend would return without a doubt! Drinks are not watered down and all beer wine and cocktails are lovely. Shower didn't leak at all as said in some reviews I just put a towel on the floor and had no problem, fresh towels, bedding and water daily from the maids, spotless hotel in every area. Ignore the bad reviews and go and book it it's amazing. Can't wait to go back!!! Best hotel I've stayed in!!.

My boyfriend and I (both mid-twenties) have just returned from a week at the Luabay Costa Adeje. Having read so many negative reviews on Trip Advisor, we were pleasantly surprised on arrival to say the least! Having been recently refurbished from the old Hotel Esmerelda Playa the entire hotel was very modern and impressive. As we didn't arrive until 10pm, we missed dinner on our first night, but were welcomed with a cold buffet of meats, cheese, bread, salad, fruit and yoghurts, which was a lovely thought. Having read about the slow lifts, we booked a room on a low floor and were given one on the 2nd floor, allowing us to take the stairs. Unfortunately we didn't have much of a view (facing a car park rather than the pool) but as we didn't plan on spending much time on the balcony this didn't bother us too much. Our room was very modern and clean, not a flowery duvet in sight! Believe me no one takes more clothes than me on holiday and I had no problem with storage. Beds were super comfy and a new 2l bottle of water was left in our room each day which we placed in the complimentary fridge. Flatscreen TV on the wall entertained my boyfriend while I got ready! In the bathroom was the most powerful shower I've ever seen! The tray was very shallow but we placed the bath mat along the side and had no problems with flooding as some reviews have mentioned. We did have to pay to hire the safe for the week though (14 euros + 10 euros deposit).

The thing that I cannot stress enough through this review is how helpful every single member of staff that we encountered in the hotel was. We went to reception just before breakfast on our first day with a few queries (hiring a safe, booking meals in a la carte restaurants, requesting a late check out...) and each of these was dealt with easily and quickly. I would recommend booking meals in the a la carte restaurants quickly so that you have the choice of when to go- for a weeks holiday you have 2 booking, 3 in 10 days and 4 in a 2 week holiday. The restaurant is open Tuesday-Saturday and alternates between Mexican and Spanish, starting with Mexican on a Tuesday. Whilst the tapas restaurant was nice (if a bit random- we weren't presented with a menu, but rather various tapas dishes just arrived at the table periodically!) it is the Mexican restaurant which I would highly reccommend- I challenge you just to finish the huge portions that they serve! Again the staff in both the a la carte restaurant and main dining room were faultless.

We found a huge range of choice for each meal- breakfast involved hot options such as freshly cooked eggs, omelettes and pancakes as well as some sausages/bacon/beans although they looked a bit different to what we would expect at home! This was along with breads, cakes, donuts, cereals, a huge choice of yoghurts, both prepared fruit and bowls of fruit. Self-service machines served great coffee and tea (we took our own PG Tips!) and machines also served juice, which is the only complaint I have about breakfast- it was sometimes quite hard to work out if the drink you obtained actually corresponded to the button you pressed- orange sometimes tasted more like pineapple!

Snacks were served around the pool from 10/11 am and consisted of some pastries and a huge fridge full of sandwiches and fruit. The pool bar was well stocked- with Amstel on tap, a range of frozen cocktails and many bottles of spirits. The pool area was split over 3 levels- the main pool with poolside bar, a second level consisting just of sun loungers and a 3rd which held the infinity pool. I thought that a nice touch was the shaded sofas on this level, which we enjoyed relaxing on when the sun got too hot on an afternoon. Having said that, paraols were readily available around the pool, with one per every two sunbeds.

Lunch was served inside in the main dining room from 1pm- as it was in the same place as breakfast/ dinner, we felt the need to change out of our wet swimsuits into dry clothes so as not to damage the nice chairs. A good excuse for me to wear the many bikinis I sneaked past my boyfriend when packing, though perhaps frustrating if you packed just one. Again a huge choice at lunch- freshly backed pizzas from a pizza oven, pasta cooked to order, one meat and one fish freshly grilled (although during our week the meat was primarily veal), a different flavour paella each day, as well as a range of chip, potato wedges, chicken nuggets, some curries/ stews, a huge range of salad and potato/pasta/rice salads. Dessert included ice cream, fruit and some amazing pastries (look out for the chocolate tart!). Self service soft drinks and Amstel was available, as well as wine which was served by waiters. Having stayed as AI hotels with fairly awful wine in the past, we were pleased to find that both the white and red wine served in the restaurant was lovely! Rose also seemed popular although we didn't try this.

Dinner was generally a repetition of lunch, although with a different meat/ fish/ paella etc. Despite the huge choice this did mean that the food could get repetitive, as is usually the case in AI hotels. Feeling that we were more than making the most of the AI anyway, my boyfriend and I ate 3 evening meals out of the hotel. Along with our 2 a la carte meals this meant that even by the end of the week we weren't too bored with the choice of food, though this may be harder over a 2 week holiday. Our AI wristbands weren't cut off before we left, meaning that we could enjoy lunch and dinner on our last day, even after our check out time.

Entertainment during the day was provided by 5 super enthusiastic reps. Unfortunately for them the clientele at the time (young couples with toddlers and older couples) weren't too enthusiastic but I can see that kids during the summer will love it, especially the club dance which is repeated every lunch and evening! Since we stayed during Euro 2012, the matches were shown each night on a huge screen in the bar (this was great for us) but I was under the impression that this is when bingo or a quiz would usually take place. The shows at 10pm each night were generally quite bad (though for some reason the rest of the audience seemed to love comedy Elvis...?) although we enjoyed the Abba tribute act. We had no problem waiting to be served at the bar on a night time, and enjoyed several sangrias and a version of baileys before bed. Soft drinks and tea and coffee were again self service. The only negative point is that the entertainment area is inside (just off reception) and fairly hot. We tended to stick to the several sofas and armchairs around reception, or tried to grab one of the few tables outside- a few more of these would be great! Again staff behind the bar were very friendly, and I thought it was nice that bottles of water were available to take, having stayed in AI before where water was limited to that served at meal times.

We were very lucky and found on our last day that our room was available for a late checkout- this cost 30 euros and allowed us to keep our room until we left the hotel, which was at 7pm, though I think the alternative of 20 euros to keep a room until 3pm wasn't very good value. We used the computers in reception once to check email- 1 euro for 20 minutes internet browsing.

All in all, I cannot recommend this hotel enough to anyone thinking of visiting- a perfect hotel in a great location. If you want a modern hotel with brand new fittings and friendly staff, then this is definitely for you. Ignore the bad reviews!

We had a great holiday here last December 2011. The Hotel has been brillianly re-furbished and the all inclusive is excellent for food and drinks and snacks throughout the day. Pool area is lovely and beach only 5 minutes walk away. Only odd thing was toilet/bathroom door being of glass and not a very good fit, you need to knoe each other very well to share a double room.

Room Tip: Lower rooms experience quite alot of noise from the nightlife.

Myself and wife have just returned from this hotel and please don't believe the bad reviews this is a very good hotel but think it still needs a few tweaks to make it a platinum hotel 4* yes the staff work very hard to make your holiday memorable the rooms are clean fresh towels every day there is loads of choice in the restaurant you would have to be very fussy not to find anything that didn't take your fancy and judging by the pile of food on some guests plates other people felt the same. Please stop moaning about the slow lifts your on holiday whats the rush? this was our first visit to Tenerife and will return to this hotel and resort the staff are a credit to the hotel from the cleaning staff to reception yes only one bar on a night but there is waiter service the pools are good This is a good 4* hotel very clean which is very important to us when booking hols

Room Tip: Book a high floor 9 in total they are quieter and have better views

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Luabay Costa Adeje, 29/06/2012.
The hotel itself is lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We were put in a room on the first floor which we thought was great, apart from there being no door on the bathroom, so if someone came in while we were in the shower or on the toilet they could see everything. After a few days we found out that all rooms on the first floor are made disabled people, but even disabled people deserve some dignity and privacy while in the bathroom!
The food during our first week was really nice, lots of choice and variety, then in the second week it changed, lots more people arrived and it was just like mass catering, it was the same every day, Pork or Chicken, one day we were served RAW CHICKEN, there was just no variety at all in the second week.
The animation staff were very good and very friendly, the shows and entertainment at night was also very good,
The only thing that lets this hotel down is the food!!

Room Tip: If you want a bathroom door on in your room then don't stay on the first floor.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are very sorry to learn that the food in our restaurant did not find your approval. This information is very important for us and we will make sure to forward it to the department and stress the fact that raw meat is absolutely unacceptable.
