“4* All inclusive, but not platinum”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

We booked through Thomsons and wanted all inclusive in the quieter part outside playa de las americas. The hotel itself is generally very good. Very clean, staff always cleaning and maintaining. We had a room on 7th floor but paid extra. We did not want to be low down as felt noise from the poolside entertainment may be a little too much especially if you like an afternoon siesta. The room was ok, clean and comfy beds but the decor, although modern, was in some parts poorly finished off. There are no baths and the shower has a screen but some water does go onto bathroom floor but we used a towel. You have to be careful as floors are tiled so could be slippy. The food was ok, I have had worse and better. There was a good variety and something different to eat each day. All inclusive drinks ok, but you can upgrade to get all brands if you want. Pools great but beware that people get up at the crack of dawn and before to reserve their beds. We generally got up and had breakfast and still got a bed between 9.30am and 10.30am and the hotel seemed to be very busy but not many children probably 10-20 at most, generally adults. The area is quiet a few bars and restaurants but a short taxi ride will take you to central playa de las americas if you like the action (about 7 euros). Conclusion - generally good, would go back but I feel the room decor and food lets it down a little. Not platinum standard but still had a very good and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor could be noisy as they are close to the restaurant and overlook the pool an...

Just returned after 2 week stay at the Luabay. The hotel is spotlessly clean as are the rooms and the cleaning ladies could not be faulted. The pool area is lovely and the views over the sea are breath taking.
Our room was very disappointing as our balcony overlooked the air conditioning plant and it was unpleasant and too noisy to sit out.

The only problem we found was the food was very repetitive. In the first week we had burgers 3 times and hot dogs twice. There is lots of other choices but again la lot of the same. The food we had was very nice. We got very bored in the evenings so went out and about most evenings. The entertainment in the hotel was ok but no really our thing, although the Charlie Chaplin show was great.

I would return again but probably only for a week. We have been going to Tenerife for 12 years and never really tire of it.
The worst thing of all is the time share touts. We went into the Otello resteraunt and found it full of the fat cats who had clinched a deal., watching one of them secretly rubbing an elderly gents head and pretending to kiss it while he couldn't see but all the other Time share slime balls laughed and were shaking hands......it was disgusting to watch!........

The service in the resteraunt was totally geared around these people, the ordinary paying customer didn't get a look in. We always visit this place but won't go there again.

As usual the weather was fab, we will be returning back to Tenerife but probably self catering as we found all inclusive a little bit regimented (nothing to do with the hotel)

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a pool view! The ones overlooking the air con plant are awful.

Just returned from staying at the Luabay Hotel. Definitely not a four star platinum hotel. Food was very basic and repetitive. Only three draws in bedroom and only shelves at either side of bed. No chair to sit on in room. Balcony was very nice but sitting out during the day all we could hear was the noise of the a/c fan and in the evening very loud music coming from one of the bars across the street which went on until about 11-30pm. Not very impressed at having to lug cases up the
70 metre slope. Staff on the whole were very pleasant. Shop in hotel was not open for very long.
Weather was excellent so enjoyed the holiday but wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

Lovely hotel spotless and modern, The food selection was great, hot or cold dishes available breakfast dinner and tea....entertainment was pretty good by others standards.... only complaint was the sunbed situation.. greedy people put towels out at 8 in the morn and the hotel allowed it...by afternoon not enough sunbeds......great position across from the beach lots of shops and bars....you can walk miles along the coast as it is pretty flat it seems to be very popular with older people also for families with pushchairs

This hotel is contemporary in most areas, always clean and sparkling, including the rooms as maid service was done everyday, clean towels etc. Reception staff and all other staff where very helpful. The pool areas where the best are of the hotel with 3 terraces to choose from and 3-4 pools, beds unfortunately go quickly but we always got one quite easy. Pool bars were easily accessible and served a variety of excellent drinks and snacks and icecreams. The food for breakfast, lunch and evening meal was always different and they did try and shake the variety up there was always different meats and fish with a excellent choice of salads and potatos and pastas. Overall the hotel is good people may not think its a platinum hotel for certain reasons but some peoples expectations are beyond what they've payed!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms would be the best choice, in order to be able to watch the sunset of an evening.

My Wife & I have just returned from the Luabay Costa Adeje, this booking was made independant of any travel operator by us as we wanted to fly from our local airport. The booking process was simple using Luabays website & showed the offers available, we then booked our flight with Jet2.com and private transfer from the airport. We saved a couple hundred pounds by not using Thomsons but you don't have their backup if something goes wrong but it was a risk we were prepared to take as Luabay policy is you can cancel up to 24 hours before check in.
On arrival we were allocated room 910 and found it to be so small it was only suitable for a single traveller really but we contacted reception & they advised us that we could change the following day, true to there word the reception Lady known as "Nina" was very helpful & gave us a choice of rooms to look at.
The food selections were very good and only laid out in small quantities so it didn't sit their drying out under heat lamps & their was always plenty brought out as selections ran low.
The staff were very friendly & helpful and worked extremely hard & efficiently.
Rooms were cleaned to an extremely high standard as was the hotel.
The reserving of Sunbeds I found to be very annoying & whilst signs were displayed nothing was done about it.
One of the biggest positives for my Wife & I were the Lack of Children, I guess their was probably a maximum of about 10 - 15 children throughout our stay & they were not noisey or being a nuisance so that for us was very good. The age groups for the hotel I would say varied from Mid twenties upwards we are mid fifties.
The Hotel is centrally located but not a noisy hotel and caters very well for disabled guests that are wheelchair bound, one addition that would probably assist disabled guests would be to install a hoist to enable them to use one of the swimming pools provided.
Overall our experience was Very Good and this is the second Luabay hotel we have stayed in, the other being at Los Gigantes.

My husband and I returned from our holiday at the Luabay (formally the Esmerelda) 26/09/12.
Beautiful hotel, really clean and well looked after, lovely dining room, excellent choice of food, if anybody says they could not find anything to eat they must be really really fussy.
Our only complaint is that we were allocated room 208 - DO NOT LET THEM PUT YOU IN THIS ROOM - it is right above the hotel air con system. It was like sleeping next a jet engine. We arrived late so were shatted so we managed to sleep, the next morning we went to the reception the young lady on reception poo pooed my request to be moved, informing me that the hotel was full and it would be two days before we could be moved! I went to the Thompson welcome meeting the young female rep was useless, after listening to me she said she would ask at reception and get back to me I sat there for 40mins watching her flirt with the other male reps, she didn't come back to me, I WAS FUMING. My husband and i sat in reception that afternoon having a drink and watched people checking out! My husband then spoke to a lovely man on reception he was very understanding and gave us a key to another room informing us if we liked it we could move, we liked the room and moved all our things straight away.
The pool area is lovely, but unfortunatly you do have to go and put towels on beds to reserve them. We did watch the entertainment in the hotel a couple of nights but the surrounding
area's bars and resturants are selling beer at 1 euro! so it's nice to drink else where for a change. Bar Unique across the road from the hotel enterance is really good they have a singer on there called Sabastian who is brilliant.
If you want to visit the hotel's themed resturant you have to book. You are not warned about this, you need to give at least 4 days notice, this is not self service, just a little more special!
Overall it was a lovely hotel, weather brilliant and very nice MALE reception staff!!!
