I have been coming to this hotel for over 30 years so have certainly seen some changes. The hotel is looking rather tired in places and it is not a 4* by British standards but it definitely has something because we return year after year.
We now come for 10 days just before Christmas and Easter booking directly with the hotel. I know from experience that it can take ages for a reply to an email (or phonecall) It helps to mark it for the attention of Elena (reservations) or Maria(PR).
This time the weather was warm but still unreliable. Last year it suffered from the tail end of the hurricane in USA and rained solidly for a week! This year it was very windy and cloudy for 50% of the holiday. If you know what to expect it does not come as a surprise. I did feel sorry for the very few youngsters wandering aimlessly about. It was too cold for the beach or pool and there is little for them to do at this hotel. The average age was over 50 and many people spend at least 5 weeks here. There are other hotels in the area better suited for children but this is not one of them at this time of year.
The rooms are being updated all the time and the building work outside the front of the hotel is nearly finished. The road is much quieter now that the main traffic has been diverted. We look forward to our return visit in April.

Just returned from the Gran Tinerfe after a short pre-Christmas break. I can't argue with any of the other comments made in the extensive reviews that have already been posted on this site. The hotel is 'ideally' situated on the beach between Las Americas and Coste Adeje and within 100 M there are any number of shops, supermarkets and English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh bars and pubs all showing UK TV programmes especially Football. Lots of German/Belgian pubs too. All have a Happy Hour (some last up to 8 hours) with beer at about 1E a pint. Most provide entertainment of variable quality.

The hotel itself is, on the whole, good value for money. It's not quite up to the standard of 4* hotels you might find elswhere in Mainland Spain but the rooms are cleaned daily, the food is Internationally OK without being outstanding and the staff are reasonably helpful. Some of the evening entertainment laid on at the hotel is first rate but most is average. One advantage of this hotel is that parking is free and relatively secure during the daytime. Finding the car park is not easy since the hotel is on a new one-way system in the resort and there are conflicting road signs to confuse and baffle you en route especially if you just picked up your hire car from the airport and it's dark.

Overall this is a good base to explore the island's Western and Southern areas. The weather is usually good but the coast is prone to strong winds in Winter. This is not generally too much of a problem unless you wish to play golf....
