“Great location, fantastic service, lovely hotel”
Reviewed 20 June 2011

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel. We enjoyed ourselves so much last year we just had to come back. Thankfully, they've kept all the elements that make it great.
The staff are all friendly, welcoming and happy to help, whether it's the cleaners, reception or bar staff, chefs or restaurant staff. They really helped make our stay a pleasure.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a seaview on the 6th floor, and the view from the balcony was delightful, especially getting to see the sunsets with a glass of wine in the evening!
The food was good also, we were half board. The only downside was that after a couple of days you were back to the same type of food, and it can get a bit boring. However, it was well cooked and tasty, so no real hardship.
The hotel itself is large and spacious, and well placed near the beach. There is a lovely cafe just across the road called the News Cafe, where you can get a large ice-cold beer and a rum & coke for less than €5, so that was a definite plus!
All in all, the Torviscas Playa is a really well-run hotel in an ideal location, and perfect for couples and families alike. We would be very happy to recommend it, and we will definitely be going back again.

Room Tip: A room on 3rd floor or higher make for good views

Main family holiday...the beach area of Torviscus is a bit too full on for my liking BUT, can not fault the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly & professional, the maid service was impeccable and the food choice (buffet style) was plenty, varied and of a high standard (even for a picky vegetarian like me)...Iberostar should be proud of their hotel and staff !...if only the Pound/Euro rate was better !

Room Tip: Side facing rooms should be quieter

we have just returned home from another 2 week stay at this hotel. again we were pleased with the hotel and the staff are still great. this time we had a welcome drink whilst checking in. they also provided a small buffet for us as we arrived late evening. the food was good and plentiful but only 1 meat & fish choice on the show cooking and the meat was not always cooked very well edible but a little rare sometimes. they did not seem to get enough on the griddle at a time and thus a queue formed but there were other meat & fish dishes. but quite a lot of the meals were repeated more than twice in the fortnight.
the beds are still very hard so we asked for a mattress topper which was provided and made all the difference. we were put in the same room as last time (569). still a lot of road noise but it that's only because the road has been block-paved. tarmac would be a lot quieter but of course that's not a fault of the hotels doing. it would not put us off staying here again. the daytime fun and games around the pool area were popular and quite wrightly too. they work very hard.
the maid service was excellent once again. nothing is too much trouble.
of course there is the usual reserving of sunbeds but i'm afraid like another reviewer if you can't beat them you have to join them.
all aspects of this hotel are great. making a great place to stay.
Well done Torviscas.

I returned to the Torviscas Playa at the beginning of May for a fortnight and had a fantastic holiday, with average temperatures of around 30 and little cloud. The main reason I rate this hotel and come back is a pool area which I haven’t seen beaten. There are always enough sunbeds and parasols and few areas which stay in the shade. Towels can be borrowed from reception, with a refundable deposit of 10€ each. I’d estimate that whilst I was there, at least half of the guests were British, with the rest being largely German or Russian; practically all of the early sunbed-reservers were British though!

I’ve always found all the staff in the hotel to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. The in-hotel entertainment team was excellent and special mention should be given to David, Julian and Louise. They provided fun pool-side activities during the day and first-rate evening shows twice a week, with outside 'professional' shows the rest of the time.

The hot breakfast fare didn't really excite me, although the crepes and freshly-cooked fried eggs and omelettes were good. On previous stays, fruit smoothies had been offered as an alternative to the questionable "orange juice", unfortunately these seem to have vanished now. The dinner buffet was always very good and included 2 soups, a large salad bar, a vegetarian corner, fish, 3 or 4 meats/meat dishes and a pasta area. On top of this, a good selection of desserts (cakes, crepes, ice cream, fruit) and cheese & biscuits. If not all-inclusive, the drinks aren’t exactly cheap, but not extortionate.

I didn’t spend very much time in my room while conscious, so this was not the most important thing to me. However, it was fine, with a balcony and a partial sea view. The walls are not particularly thick, so if unfortunate enough to have inconsiderate, noisy neighbours, it can be rather annoying. The air-conditioning did its job and it was very useful to have a fridge to store drinks and chocolate! I also hired a safe at 12€ per week. My only plea would be for softer mattresses. I slept OK, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to sink into your bed.

Location-wise, I find it ideal, with direct access to the beach and prom, and easy walks to either Los Cristianos (~1hr) or Caleta (~30 mins). It is quite hilly in this area though, so people who have problems with walking or climbing steps may want to consider that. Some tour operators (eg. Thomas Cook) list this hotel as being in Playa de las Americas, but it’s not and is quite a distance from the main nightlife. Generally the hotel is beginning to look a bit tired and could probably do with some renovation work before things go too far downhill. Little things like broken tiles could be fixed quite easily and make quite a difference.

I’m sure I’ll be back.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated as though we were royalty. The staff could not have been friendlier or more efficient. We were provided with a meal, even though our late arrival meant that the restaurant was closed. This standard of service continued throughout our stay. Massive choice of food at every mealtime, all cooked well and presented well. Unbelieveable that the sittings lasted so long. Excellent quality , choice and service.
I would highly recommend the PAL free day trips. Excellent days out.
I would not recommend the Thomas Cook Rep. She seemed to know nothing about anything. I asked her two important questions - her reply was to ask at reception, which I thought was her job! Not impressed and, as with other guests writing to Thomas Cook about her.

Room Tip: From 251 upwards for sea views
