“Good but not quite a 5 star!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2011

We have just returned from a family holiday at the Costa Adeje Gran our holiday was very enjoyable not many negative comments but there are a couple which are what i feel stops this hotel being a 5 star little things which i noticed were the paintwork on the building inside and out was rather dated and in need of repair in some areas which gave it a bit of a shabby look in these areas, bins around the pool area were only emptied at nite so throughout the day they were overflowing also round the pool area on only 1 occasion did a see a member of the bar staff collect coffee cups from around the sun loungers so these were left lying all day, we arrived at approx 1am but had to take our own cases to our rooms which wasnt easy with 4 adults (1 in a wheelchair) and 2 children (1 in a buggy), One major downfall of the hotel was the all inclusive, it was very limited in the bar area as to what was fully all inclusive some drinks were all inclusive some u had to pay a supplement to and some you had to pay the full price for, slush puppies were not all inclusive for the kids and the all inclusive snacks available at the pool bar were poor. It would be a lot easier if either everything was or was not all inclusive. My negative points may sound a little pernickity but to me they matter if a hotel says its a 5 star, we previously stayed at the bahia principe in adeje that was very much a 5 star. There are also lots of positives for the hotel, Great food with a fresh pasta bar in the restaurant good selection, lovely friendly staff, rooms kept nice and clean and fresh towels every day, evening entertainment great, entertainment staff including the kids club were great, hotel totally suitable for my sister in a wheelchair which was a massive plus. so overall the good points outweigh the bad so we would return.

We had a very pleasant 10 day break at this hotel. The rooms are a good size and there were always sunbeds to be found. Swimming pool was good and there were really good activities in the day for kids even older ones (teenage) who then made some mates to meet up with in the evening. There is also a swimming pool for adults on the top floor which is not really advertised.

Connecting rooms were excellent but the down side was no tea making facilities in the room and the shower wasnt the best. The restaurant is buffet with very little variation and although pretty good food i felt it had been scaled back on quality to allow for those on the all-inclusive option. Fine dining it isnt. They gym isnt great either.

Overall a good holiday but if you are looking for something a bit more plush this isnt for you.

Stayed here for 11 nights with my husband and 11 year old son .On arrival very impressive frontage and reception .Check in was simple and fast .
Room was very clean and well presented .Beds very comfortable but sofa bed for my son a little lumpy -I think if he had been much older it would have been a problem .However we all managed to sleep in until 10ish most mornings ,helped by the very effective blackout curtains .Room was cleaned every day and new towels provided if requsted .
Breakfast is served until 10.30 which allows for a good lie in but be warned it is very busy then .Food is of a very good standard .Breakfast -cooked ,cereals ,pancakes ,smoothies -you name it they have it .
Dinner-again huge choice .Every kind of meat on the grill, different cooked dishes every day, puddings to die for and icecream and delicious fresh fruit-I have never tasted such sweet pineapple .My 11 year old son is quite fussy but ate like a king for the whole holiday .We did go out for a meal one night just for a change and swapped our meal for lunch which was no problem .
Staff all most pleasant and always willing to help -they all work very hard .
Pool area -all got beds at whatever time we came to the pool ,helped by the "NO reserving of sunbeds "which they endorse daily .Towels for pool provided which is great .
Very clean area -every morning men in the pool ,cleaning the bottom, scrubbing the sides of the pool .
Entertainment team work very hard and kept my son busy .Good range of activities-tennis,mini-golf,pool etc .Night entertainment all good -some very good acts -magicain was excellent .
Lovely area -walk along the front to the right of the hotel in the evening and enjoy the beautiful sunsets .
Siam Park is a must for children of 10 and over .Aqualand probably more appropriate for younger children ,but the dolphin show is fantastic for adults and children a like .
We went half board and this for us was very good value for money .Do not think we would have got the £600.extra it would have cost to go all inclusive as we are not big drinkers and did not eat lunch most days as we we so full after breakfast .
In conclusion ,fantastic hotel that I will recomend to family and friends .

We have just had a great holiday at this hotel and would recommend it to anybody.
The food can get a little repititive if i was being pickie, but as a whole the standard is quite high, the made to order pasta food bar is a great bonus, and a lot of holiday maker said the fish was spot on. sadly i dont eat fish. The beds are realy comfortable and the maid service great. this is a very family orientated hotel with lots of activities for all to do if you wish. theres four pools to choose from one being adults only.

When we arrived at the hotel we were so impressed! The reception is beautiful and gave us a great first impression - the rest of the hotel certainly didnt disappoint!
The location is perfect - perhaps not very suitable for family's with young children as there is quite a long walk down to the beach and the hill is fairly steep. However you are in the perfect position for a selection of much nicer restaurants, and you are close to everything.
The room was huge , and had everything you would need on holiday. The service from the moment we arrived was excellent, there really was nothing we could fault.

The pools were great, and there were always sunbeds available, and the roof terrace was stunning!

I would never usually go back to the same hotel twice, but in this case, I would make an exception! The hotel is amazing value for money!

Room Tip: Ask of a room overloking the pool on a high floor

Let's just put some context here...for my family of five I need two rooms. At the gorgeous 5 star Vincci Plantacion where I have stayed before as a then smaller family of four, this would have cost £1800 per room per week, plus 40 a head per night for buffet = 3600 + 6 nights x200 buffet = 4800. At the 5 star Grand this cost £1350 all in. Bargain. Is it really 5 star? Well the price should tell u the answer. Is it one of the nicer hotels around the area, yes. For the money it's amazingly good. The Vincci is wasted on the kids, but also it's not as good for them, as the kids clubs at grand are really good and the staff excellent. Better than Vincci. If you want a more Vincci like tranquil pool experience, go on the roof. Also a separate nudist part up there if you like the all over tan look. Food was good with different stuff every night and kept my clan of fussy eaters happy. Main pools area is great. For a big hotel not too crowded and most importantly the pool staff do the right thing and remove any silly sun bed reserving towels to allow a good choice of beds when I wander down at around 9:45. Towel hut opens at 10. Great mix of nationalities staying too which i prefer to a uk ghetto experience as i get to listen to other conversations besides "eh up, well my booob job cost meh 6 grand but r Lisa, sheez ad job lot for 13 grand..." I travel across Europe a lot with work, so I have a good idea of hotel quality, service and value, and this hotel should keep any hard working dad and his family very happy for a week in the sun. :-)

An absolutely lovely hotel. We stayed on a bed and breakfast rate. The breakfast was very nice, plenty of choice and hot and cold options. If like our group you want to save money take a beach bag with you and make rolls to take away with you.

The rooms were cleaned everyday, all nicely decorated.

Hotel provides entertainment every night, some nights were really quite good, others as with all hotels quite rubbish. But the bar area does provide a waiter service to your table so no need to keep getting up.

The pool areas are very clean and no issues with getting a bed. If you want a peaceful day head to the rooftop pool.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the beach and food areas.

All in all a great stay at a great hotel.
