I went to this hotel from 9th - 16th june. It was an excellent hotel and only about 5 minutes walk from a gorgeous beach. There were hardly any waves at this beach as it was enclosed by walls of rocks further out to make the water safer. The sand was a nice golden colour with only hints of the natural black sand showing (although i'm not a fan of sand whatever it's colour!) The water was clear and there were loads of fish look at when snorkelling. There were a large amount of bars and restaurants in a half circle around the beach area for when you needed some shade or something to drink.
The hotel pools were a good size and clean. There is a larger (and far deeper) pool for adults to use, a small shallow area for toddlers and another medium sized pool which was heated to 26c. We spent more time in there than the larger pool as it was such a nice temperature.
The room we had was quite big and we had a large balcony with doors leading to it from the living room and our bedroom. We had one fan in our bedroom which really helped to keep you cool at night, but did squeak a fair amount, we got used to the noise though.
I can't say anything about the hotels restaurant or bar as we didn't go there. The pool bar was nice but seemed expensive and we only used it once for a soft drink.
There was entertainment at the hotel every night although i didn't go to see any of it, it included singers and parrot shows and one night there was bingo.
The only two very small moans i could come up with is that firstly the hotel is situated up a small hill (which probably did me some good to be honest!) and secondly that although the maid service was good, the floor wasn't swept enough. After a day at the beach there would be a little sand on the floor in our room which kept sticking to my feet and was never swept up.
One thing to bear in mind for anyone checking out later in the day is that they have a luggage room for you to store your luggage in and you can go to reception for the key at any point in the day if you need to get something from your suitcase. They also have showers in the toilets near to the tennis courts which are free to use at any point during the day after you've checked out of your room.
Overall i loved this hotel and thought it was great value for money, i would absolutely go back there and recommend it to anyone.

when we arrived we where giving a basement room with a view of a wall so after asking for a new room we where giving a lovely room on the 3rd floor with a balcony and views of the sea and the mountains.the room had just been painted and was very clean, the kitchen area was small but had everything we needed, the bathroom was spacious and the towels where changed three times in the week.theres plenty off bars and restaurants around the hotel with many of the bars offering you beers for 1euro,chinese buffets for 6.50euro's,and three course meals for 7.50euro's each.overall we would defiantly return to the santa maria hotel.

i stayed in the santa maria with my partner for a week, booking via an internet holiday rentals company. i paid £300.
the room was just up the right hand corridor from reception, and all had gone smooth until we opened the door!
first thing to hit us was the bad drain stench coming from the bathroom, the bathroom was probably last decorated at the time the hotel was built, it was filthy and stuffed full of the owners personal cosmetics, and an unhealthy layer of pink mouldy goo all over the bath and tiles, there was a rusty washing machine shoved in the corner, again buried with the owners belongings.
the room its self was just a long thin design, with two collapsible beds, a concrete dining table and benches, and a lounge area with a well worn suite, and a portable television, the kitchen area was shoved against the wall opposite the table, and was disgustingly filthy, with limescale dribblings all down the fronts of the units.
the fridge had the last occupants milk, cheese, and other items lurking in there, and the cupboards were full to the limit of canned foods, etc.
i went to complain, as it was horrible, only to be told the owners had gone on holiday that morning!
i tried ringing the bookng agent, who in turn said they would find the owners and ring me back. my partner took me for a few meal and drinks, and hearing nothing from the agents,we bedded down for the night.
we could not unpack clothing, as the wardrobes resembled a teenagers. clothes rammed in, and dirty socks in the bottom of the drawers
a week later, i had heard nothing from the agents or owners, and i gladly slammed the door, leaving my own layer of mess on top of that disgusting heap.
please, please reasearch your apartment, BEFORE BOOKING ONLINE!
i dare say that 99.9 percent of booking agencies are aware of problems like this, but there is always one to get through the net..
i complained by email, phone and letter on my return, but still have recieved no letter of reply. i wrote a review on their website, and was asked to remove it, by return email!
beware..........only book by visa, then you can claim your money back.
om the plus side, the santa maria was in a great location, and the food in the little bars and restaurants, in the neighbourhood, made up for the pigsty of santa maria apartments, as fellow guest were not happy either, only travel company guests had the good rooms.
the pool was not too clean and full of kids, despite being out of season.
a big let down.
it seems some owners just dont care as long as they are getting income.
going back to mare verde complex up the road, its much nicer.
