“Great hotel.”
Reviewed 28 February 2013

We traveled on our own, from Tallinn to Tenerife (friends ages under and over 30). Used cheap airlines and booked the hotel directly. Usually you dont get good and cheap offers from some our local travel companies. So we choosed the Playa Olid from Booking.
Why? Because it was not very expensive, was in good location and looked nice. It also had some good reviews here for this hotel.
And we were not disappointed. Hotel was nice, very clean, rooms cleaned 5 days a week, never saw roaches in hotel. We asked top floor room when we made booking, and away from street noise. And got room in fifth floor, 502R, nice ocean view and sun was shining in the balcony all day, from 9am to 7pm. Yes there was a little street noice, from the highway, but thats small minus.
We had the old style room, but we liked it more than the modern style. Rooms were clean, bathroom nice, kitchen well equipped, balcony very large, we had also flat screen tv (remote was free, but they wanted deposit for it). Hotel was very quiet and staff were nice.
There are three pools, one for kids, and a jacuzzi. Sunbeds are near the main pool and in the sun terrace.
Dont know nothing from the food in hotel, because we had self catering. Store near the hotel is very expensive, but little walk away, near the highway there is big Mercadona which is quiet cheap. Nice beach is just 10 min walk from hotel. Wifi is free in the hotel lobby and pool area, but if you are lucky then you can also receive it in the balcony, like us.
One more minus is that the hotel does not have parking lot, parking in the street is free, but finding free spot is hard. Near the Skypark, there is a bigger parking lot where is easyer to find free spot. And depend where your room is, you may have a look over it from balcony, like we did.

I would reccomend this hotel. It is clean and safe, everything you want is nearby, staff is friendly and its quiet place (exept little street noise).
Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Definitely top floor or high floor. Modern room is cosy, but its not spanish style.

Unfortunately on arrival at Playa Olid, we were told there were no rooms available and that we had to go to Hotel Columbus in Playa de las Americas. We were very unhappy with this, but it didn't how much we protested there was no way they were going to let us stay. They did pay for taxi transfers and later a taxi to the airport and gave us a courtesty call whilst at Columbus, this in no way made up for not having the holiday of our choice. I notice we are not the only ones this has happened to. Be warned.

1st our check in problem

Stayed here as a family of 4 staying all inclusive arrived on Monday 18th and were told we were being moved to another hotel (hotel Columbus) in playa de las Americas as they were overbooked I told the manager this was unacceptable and that we had booked and paid to stay at playa olid we were offered a free weeks stay later in the year which I still declined we were then given a room so please don't feel forced into changing hotels as they don't seem to be overbooked at all!

We were given a refurbished apartment which was very clean and well appointed if you were staying self catering, there is a flat screen tv with bbc1, bbc2, itv and itv2 english channels and plenty of Spanish channels we did not have to pay for a remote as others have stated. The bathroom was a good size with a large shower and a hair dryer. The only problem with the room was the road noise and for this reason I would ask for a room away from the road.

The hotel was absolutely spotless the cleaners were constantly present cleaning everything and there were painters giving walls etc a refurb while were there.

The restaurant is similar to a canteen but very clean food was of a good standard and we always found something to eat. There is everything from a full English to continental and cereals and fruit also fresh cooked eggs, omelettes and pancakes at breakfast. Lunch consists of show cooked meats, fish dishes with a variety of rice, veg, potatoes and pizza, burgers etc along with a salad bar and dessert section with similar dishes in the evening and themed evenings. There are self service soft drinks, wine and beer (at lunch and evening meal) and tea, coffee available the staff is lovely always a smile and hello and clear plates efficiently my only gripe us that the tables are packed in and too close together.

There are two main pools and a children's pool and a hot tub, people do tend to put towels down as soon as the pool opens but we never had a problem getting a sun bed the main pool has a pool bar/snack bar this opens at 10am and closes at 6pm snacks of burgers, chips, toasties, chicken nuggets and hot dogs are served from 12 until 1 and then again from 3 until 4 when a selection of pastries and cakes are also available. The drinks are local brands but very good anyway and don't seem to be watered down and there is also a soft drinks and hot drinks available and slushes and ice pops for the children.

The entertainment this is where I think the hotel could improve on there was daytime activities water volleyball, water polo and stretching and darts or pool and table tennis competitions and a mini club for kids however the staff need to make these things more fun to join in! Maybe employ a more qualified animation team. Nighttime entertainment was ok with professional acts coming in the usual flamenco dancing, game shows, abba tributes etc.

In all I would say this hotel deserves it 3 stars and lives up to them I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning, hope my review helps other people wanting to visit this great hotel.

After the weather from hell on way to airport and an almost two hour delay we couldnt wait to get to hotel. We couldnt shake the feeling that (without being disrespectful) we were on the flight of the living dead. Tenerife is apparently a very senior orientated resort this time of year and our suspicions were confirmed when we arrived here. We are by far the only couple of our age group (17-25) here and in the resort centre this is still the case, very few people to meet and interact with. However there are plenty of mentionable bars and resteraunts with very good prices, wigan pier, las olas, fosters, "the pub", the aberdeen, scotch corner, torviscas tandoori! 1 euro a pint promos, friendly staff, good food and seating in the sun.

However, the hotel itself is very modern and stylish, checking in was speedy and fast, although not one of the unfurnished rooms, it is still spacious and has everything one would need, although a free safe would be better, you need to pay for this. Although all inclusive, the kitchen is fully kitted out for self catering so if you fancy eating and drinking in one night you can. However, the beds are two singles pushed together and horribly uncomfortable and the showers lack any pressure or temperature control whatsoever! Aircon would be good too!

The food is the best we have had on an all inclusive basis wherever we have been, freshly cooked, plenty of choice and a pleasant setting to eat it in. yes it can be quite "school cafe-ish", but hey, you shouldn't be in there longer than 10-15mins. reception did give us(after requesting then not receiving and complaining) a free bottle of champers and cake to celebrate our anniversary!

The all inclusive bars are both well stocked and well staffed, however at night they are so anxious to close up and early at that. Your supplements end at 11 too which is a bit disappointing. The pool bar could benefit with some more seating in the sun though.

The pool is clean and seems slightly heated but has kids and older people in it so we are yet to try it.

Wifi is free in hotel and you can pick it up on your balcony(where i am writing this) however, be warned it is stupidly slow! Views are fantastic too. It also has pool tables, internet, games machines, on site supermarket and salon. The "activities" look a little tired and the woman doing them needs a bit of a spark, but as we say the resort seems geared around the golden generation......particularly with the welcome meeting with the thomas cook rep that offered us a £60 off voucher for taking part in a diamond holidays promo! Apparently we do not qualify because we are too young.....not good! lol

Writing this part now I am home, our second week was somewhat different with the hotel filling up with kids and families. Everything seemed to go massively downhill the busier the place got. Not enough staff on the bar or snack bar. General untidyness etc. but this you come to expect, a tip if you are there during a busy time. Pool number two round by the old Skypark is much quieter, even though the bar is only open 12-3:45.

All in all though a pleasant place to stay just not for the young (or young at heart) I would definitely come back but on a self catering basis as we didn't spend much time in the hotel itself. I know there are negatives but honestly with tenerife its what you make of it and we had a fantastic holiday. Special mentions to Vasile the bar man, BRILLIANT! Even though he is a barca fan.

Room Tip: chose one overlooking pool 2(old skypark) as ones overlooking pool 1 are next to road and very noisy...

Lovely hotel, in the midst of being upgraded, we stayed in an 'older' room which was very clean and well equiped for self catering with a large bedroom and good sized bathroom (included hair dryer). There was a good sized swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers. We didnt eat at the hotel as there were many eating places within a few minutes walk, with 3 courses for €9. The hotel like many in costa adeje was based on a hill close to a busy road which did have traffic noise all night so maybe earplugs if your a light sleeper. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and our room was cleaned 5/7 days. I would recommend this hotel as a good base as its close to the strip and the beach, only 5 minutes from Siam water park.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the road if your a light sleeper.
