“Fantastic”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

Stayed at this hotel in Match 2012. The hotel is not your typical in decor as it is a little dark in reception. However don't let that deter you. This hotel is in a fantastic beach location and its only 6 minutes coastal walk to the nightlife.
We we upgraded to a suite (room 408) with a side sea view and it was huge with the biggest bed Ive slept in. It had a mini bar which you can fit your water/drinks in and flat screen tv but only news channels in English. The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels.
The outside area around the pools are fab surrounded by palm trees and really comfy sunbeds and no problem finding one.
The hotel staff are very friendly especially all the staff in the restaurant. You do not feel rushed and the chefs are very happy to advise you and the food is the best I have had buffet style as its all cooked to order.
If you get a free visit to the spa use it as its a great way to wind down.
I have been to other hotels in this area and this is the most personable and best so far.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a larger balcony as these have the best views.

Just returned from 1 week bed and breakfast at the Dream Gran and it was perfect in every way. Gorgeous room with slippers, bathrobes and turndown service which included chocolate (the way to my heart!) Breakfast was a wonderful occasion and featured every type of breakfast food imaginable including Cava and caviar! Would go back here in a heartbeat... loved every minute! Would advise taking a travel kettle, though if you are partial to a cuppa as they were not supplied although they were available to hire at 15 euros per week!
I did think that use of the spa should have been included in the price as it is advertised as a spa hotel but residents had to pay an additional cost of 17 euros to use it.

Just returned from our 3rd visit in 2 years.Gran Tacande is still the best value and best positioned hotel on the Adeje strip. Its not a true 5 star compared with city hotels but it is pretty good for tenerife.

I am only scoring 4 on this review because of 2 things - since our last visit my wife tells me that the bath sheets have shrunk to a very average bath towel size and your opinion of the hotel will vary according to the room you are allocated , even some of the 'sea view ' rooms dont have brilliant outlooks.

One thing has not changed , the staff are all extremely helpfull and cheerfull , and many of them are still there rom our first visit.

We were a little worried about taking our three young children (2, 5 & 7) to a 5-star resort, but we had a lovely experience. The staff was always full of smiles & friendly greetings for our children, and the resort itself had plenty to offer--two full-size pools, a kiddie pool (although it was a little slippery & tricky to get in), a giant chess board, buttons on the poolside umbrellas for ordering Coke, chocolates on the bed each night... and, most importantly, a great sandy beach only steps away! The room itself was perhaps a bit dark (rooms with sea views, as ours, face to the NW, so not a lot of sun shining in), but it was plenty big enough for the 5 of us. And who goes to Tenerife to sit inside one's room? The view from the room was lovely, and the balcony was a spacious & relaxing place to sit for those times our youngest needed to be inside taking a nap.

Our middle child turned 5 while we were there, and the front desk arranged not only for a delicious birthday cake for him, but also gave my husband & I a complimentary bottle of champagne. They were also quite accommodating in getting a rental car for us on one of our days, and a child's cot for the 2-year old. In short, a professional & friendly place in a fabulous location! :-)

This was our first visit to Costa Adeje and the Gran Tacande and we were not disappointed. We stayed in Room 426 which was very spacious and extremely clean. While the sun didn't quite reach our balcony we could see the sea. The service was definitely 5 star and breakfast was perfect everyday, the waiters were very friendly and even those who could not speak English managed to bring us a pot of hot coffee each day.
The pools were large (and empty as the water was very cold at this time of year) with enough sunbeds. Although many were reserved early in the morning we found a bed and cushion every day.
The back gate allowed easy access to the main resort which had plenty of bars and restaurants (try the Colonial in Fananbe). If you love to walk this is the place to be with the sea walk stretching all the way to Los Cristianos or a bus for 1.35 euro.
If you like designer shopping then you'll love the centre across the street.
Would definitely return

For travelers used to visit 5* hotels in Europe, this hotel will probably not seem a 5*, but compared to the usual holiday accomodationsin the South of Europe it is. I'll try to describe each item separately.
Reception : walked in and first thing I saw was 3 people behind the desk gently smiling...A rarity in most Tenerife hotel reception desks. As it suits a 5* hotel, your suitcase is brought up to the room and a receptionist escorted me to the room and left only after verifying that everything was OK.
Staff : overall extremely friendly. Each day again they welcomed you with a spontaneous hello, how are you today... It looked like this was the first hotel in Tenerife (and I've visited many of them), where it seems that the staff likes working there. Lot of them "speak" multiple languages...at least they try to.
Room : very spacious (45 m²) whereas usual hotel rooms are around 25 m². Bathroom with separate bath tub, separate toilet and walk-in shower. Flatscreen TV with +/- 100 channels, outdoor furniture of decent quality (not plastic). Points for improvement is the Wifi connection which is not available in the rooms. For a 5* this should be available. Other point are the pillows (long, thin pillows), not my style, but that's something that differs from person to person. Safa end Fridge are available in the room and free of charge.
Restaurant : good food, large variety. As for each hotel, wouldn't be eating it 2 weeks in a row, but they offer fresh sushi, oriental cuisine, lot of live cooking... Tastful and good. And the staff again is friendly, asking at multiple occassions if the food is OK, if you're OK etc...
Other things that can be useful to know : there's a public parking beneath the hotel, it's located in a very quiet nieghbourhood yet not far from Playa Parasio, Playa de las Americas +/- 20 min walk and only 7 € by taxi). The hotel is suited for disabled people. Swimming pools : 1 heated (smallest of the two), 1 not heated (and freezing cold at this time of the year), 1 jacuzzi (in between the two pools). Enough sunbeds available and few of them reserved as of 9 AM. There's a back entrance that allows you to access the beach which is only 100 meters away.
Hope this was helpful.

Room Tip: The rooms next to the Bahia Del Duque resort do have Wifi (from the resort next door), but on the ot...

I agree with many of the other reviews this hotel it is really is a well run hotel offering excellent customer service.
We had a Junior Suite in the Casa Fuerte which was spacious and comfortable for 4. My 2 young daughters shared the sofa bed which had a decent mattress and the main bed was made into a double which all 4 of us fitted in easily ! There were 2 terraces and a lovely view. The Jnr suite had the added bonus of a small entrance / corridor with an extra door so it was very quiet.
The food was delightful and made eating with 2 small children easy as there was always something they liked or that they could try new. The waiters were charming and attentive.
We used Playa del Duque regularly, either renting sunbeds and parasols ( about €18) or if we were going for a short time there was loads of space just to put a towel down.
The Fanabe beach which is about a 5-10 min stroll along the promenade had 2 free play areas and a small pay soft play area with a ball pool and trampoline. There were also a couple of other activities for children. We rented the 'bed' sunbeds at Fanabe €25 or €30 at the weekends as they could fit 4 , they were not far from the very clean public toilets and also shops.
The Duque area is without a doubt quieter and more pleasant, possibly even a bit 'twee' the bars and restaurants slightly more expensive but it is more peaceful. The Plaza has a selection of very expensive boutiques along with some reasonable priced shops.
From the start of Fanabe the area becomes more multinational with the usual mixture of local, British, Italian cuisine with a dollop of bag, souvenir, and general tack shops. The further you walk towards the Americas there is an increase of restaurant and bar touts , along with the odd time share agent.
The twice weekly market is a short walk up the hill behind the hotel - only went once as there was nothing local apart from Aloe products and most of the items could be found in the beach shops!
Another factor we liked was that hotel was not 'dominated' by any nationality or tour operator , there was a small amount of sunbed reserving but there were lots of sunbeds and the pool attendant/ lifeguard was always willing to move them for you!
We diddn't think that the extras were overpriced for a 5* €6 for a cocktail and the selection of wines good !
We never used the childcare facilities as this was a family holiday and we never made it to the spa either ( this I regret!)
