We loved this hotel, we upgraded to a sea view which was great, right on the top floor and fantastic views! Overlooking the Plaza del Duque and Las Americas but it was a very quiet room, only hearing some of the beach front bars music from a distance if sitting on the balcony in the evening but the room was quiet.
All the staff are the most friendly and efficient we have come across, from check-in to the breakfast staff, the pool staff and bar service, they all spoke fantastic English and were always there when you needed them and with a smile!
There was loads of choice at breakfast but the same every day, however there was so much to choose from we really didn't get bored. We loved the freshly made omelettes and pancakes also there was champagne every day!
Sunbeds were easy to come by, there was just one day after a few new arrivals and it was busy, people were reserving beds but the pool staff quickly noticed and put a note on them warning that it isn't tolerated, then if anyone else showed up needing a bed they would then remove any items and place them nearby with the note still on them. You could often still get decent sunbeds at 11.30 though and it was often quieter in the afternoon.
We found the top pool better as it was quieter (when water volleyball or water polo weren't on!) and didn't seem to have inflatables everywhere like the other pool! They are both salt water but very warm, you have to remember to shower the salt off after or you can burn easily.
We spent 2 days on the beach all day, it is a quick 1 min walk to Del Duque beach from the gate down by the bottom pool, you have to pay to use the sun loungers they were around 6 Euros each or you can just towel down on the sand! You're not mean't to take the hotel towels there but people did! The beach is lovely, a few waves to jump over but the sea was warm.
We ate at the pool snack bar a couple of times, it's OK but not a lot of choice, we ate in the restaurant for lunch once but wouldn't again, it wasn't bad but not great, the Portofino restaurant just outside the hotel down the steps was best, they do wonderful pizza and pasta among other things and there is a lot of choice, you can also charge to your room.
We only ate dinner once in the hotel as we were B&B but it was amazing food, I think we would have returned much heavier than when we arrived if we had been half board!! There saw fresh steak, chicken and fish cooked to order as well as pasta, chinese, rack of lamb, succulent pork, lovely salads and loads of pudding and ice cream! We were told it does change frequently at dinner but we found it expensive to pay as you go, instead we walked down to Fanabe most evenings, on the seafront there are some amazing restaurants with great views and they are incredibly good value, particularly the sea bass baked in salt and the chateaubriand!!
The kids loved the mini disco which starts at 9.15pm so we were usually back by then and enjoyed a few drinks while watching that and the evening entertainment which began at 9.45pm, it was a bit cheesy on occasion but we enjoyed it anyway and the drinks were reasonably priced.
The only 3 slight complaints I would have is that the pool area needs a bit of work, it's starting to look a bit tired and worn. The shower went hot and cold all the time, it wouldn't keep a decent temperature but we got used to it!! Also the kids clubs weren't fantastic, my girls couldn't have gone together being 8 and 6 and weren't that bothered about what was provided.
Some people think this is not a 5* hotel, I think for Tenerife it is, we have stayed at quite a few on the island and the staff here make it 5*, I think it is slightly older than others we've stayed in and if they updated a few areas, had a better kids club and had a really nice gourmet restaurant in the hotel I think it would be perfect!
We will definitely return here, we like Tenerife for the all year sun and it is good value!
