“Fantastic 11 night stay!”
Reviewed 23 August 2012

We loved this hotel, we upgraded to a sea view which was great, right on the top floor and fantastic views! Overlooking the Plaza del Duque and Las Americas but it was a very quiet room, only hearing some of the beach front bars music from a distance if sitting on the balcony in the evening but the room was quiet.

All the staff are the most friendly and efficient we have come across, from check-in to the breakfast staff, the pool staff and bar service, they all spoke fantastic English and were always there when you needed them and with a smile!

There was loads of choice at breakfast but the same every day, however there was so much to choose from we really didn't get bored. We loved the freshly made omelettes and pancakes also there was champagne every day!

Sunbeds were easy to come by, there was just one day after a few new arrivals and it was busy, people were reserving beds but the pool staff quickly noticed and put a note on them warning that it isn't tolerated, then if anyone else showed up needing a bed they would then remove any items and place them nearby with the note still on them. You could often still get decent sunbeds at 11.30 though and it was often quieter in the afternoon.

We found the top pool better as it was quieter (when water volleyball or water polo weren't on!) and didn't seem to have inflatables everywhere like the other pool! They are both salt water but very warm, you have to remember to shower the salt off after or you can burn easily.

We spent 2 days on the beach all day, it is a quick 1 min walk to Del Duque beach from the gate down by the bottom pool, you have to pay to use the sun loungers they were around 6 Euros each or you can just towel down on the sand! You're not mean't to take the hotel towels there but people did! The beach is lovely, a few waves to jump over but the sea was warm.

We ate at the pool snack bar a couple of times, it's OK but not a lot of choice, we ate in the restaurant for lunch once but wouldn't again, it wasn't bad but not great, the Portofino restaurant just outside the hotel down the steps was best, they do wonderful pizza and pasta among other things and there is a lot of choice, you can also charge to your room.

We only ate dinner once in the hotel as we were B&B but it was amazing food, I think we would have returned much heavier than when we arrived if we had been half board!! There saw fresh steak, chicken and fish cooked to order as well as pasta, chinese, rack of lamb, succulent pork, lovely salads and loads of pudding and ice cream! We were told it does change frequently at dinner but we found it expensive to pay as you go, instead we walked down to Fanabe most evenings, on the seafront there are some amazing restaurants with great views and they are incredibly good value, particularly the sea bass baked in salt and the chateaubriand!!

The kids loved the mini disco which starts at 9.15pm so we were usually back by then and enjoyed a few drinks while watching that and the evening entertainment which began at 9.45pm, it was a bit cheesy on occasion but we enjoyed it anyway and the drinks were reasonably priced.

The only 3 slight complaints I would have is that the pool area needs a bit of work, it's starting to look a bit tired and worn. The shower went hot and cold all the time, it wouldn't keep a decent temperature but we got used to it!! Also the kids clubs weren't fantastic, my girls couldn't have gone together being 8 and 6 and weren't that bothered about what was provided.

Some people think this is not a 5* hotel, I think for Tenerife it is, we have stayed at quite a few on the island and the staff here make it 5*, I think it is slightly older than others we've stayed in and if they updated a few areas, had a better kids club and had a really nice gourmet restaurant in the hotel I think it would be perfect!

We will definitely return here, we like Tenerife for the all year sun and it is good value!

Hello Grand Tacande personnel.
Thank you for an unforgettable holiday. We have never felt more welcome anywhere else than with you. This was my our 4 visits. We had the pleasure of staying in room 625 (upgraded free by the hotel) and the rest of the family in rooms 526 The hotel is beautifully situated right on the Duque Beach. Rooms at this hotel are large and spacious with 45 m as the smallest size. I would recommend visitors to upgrade to a sea view or suites with ocean views to get higher up in the hotel. Personally, I prefer fresh water in the pools, and it is not here. Nor is wifi in the room, but that's all I liker.Det may be nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. There are people working on site that makes the difference. All from the reception to the waiters and bartenders keep a very high class. Smile and you will get many smiles back. We can not look forward enough until we come back, something we hope to achieve in the end of November.

lots of greetings and thanks from
Ruth, Cecilie, Lars, Oscar, Andrea and Jesper

The Gran Tacande is in a slightly more upmarket area compared to Las Americas with the Playa Del Duque beach nearby as well as the upmarket Plaza Del Duque shopping centre. There are lots of very nice restaurants situated near the hotel and it's entirely a different feel from the British bars and restaurants of Las Americas and Los Christianos.

We were given a warm welcome by the hotel staff who helped with our luggage and brought us a cold drink (champagne or orange juice) before being shown to our room. The room was large enough and nicely decorated with a large stylish bathroom. It did what it said on the tin but kind of lacked the WOW factor for a 5* hotel. There was a minibar fridge in the room, unstocked. You can pay to have this filled from a menu. It says you can't use it for your own drinks but we did and it wasn't a problem. There is also a safe which is free to use. I thought the air-con was a bit rubbish and would have liked it to be cooler in the room and the shower temperatures were a bit random but that's about my biggest gripe!

The pool area is clean and tidy but could perhaps do with a bit of a refurb in areas as the bridge especially looked a bit shabby. There were plenty of sunbeds and we never struggled to get one as there were many free until about 11am and lots of people left mid-afternoon so more became available then. The pools are saltwater which isn't a major problem but my son hated it when it got in his mouth (it was VERY salty) and it stung a little if it got in your eyes. There's a button on the base of the parasol for waiter service drinks.

We stayed half-board and the food was very good. There was lots of choice and variety however it did tend to be the same most days, especially with regard to breakfast so by the end of the week I was looking forward to a change. The waiters are all very helpful and friendly but perhaps a bit too keen to clear up - on occasion we had just sat down to with a plate of food and it was swiftly taken away before we had chance to say anything! The Chinese food station at dinner was by far my favourite but there was also pasta cooked to order as well as meats and fish prepared to order. I was a bit bemused by chips and onion rings at breakfast and even more so to see people stacking their plates high!

There is a children's club and every night there is a mini-disco which is quite popular, followed by some form of entertaining act. The bar area was very quite, I guess drinks can be found cheaper elsewhere but as my children enjoyed the entertainment we hung around and didn't find them too expensive.

All-in-all it was a great hotel, good food, service, location etc but felt a bit more like a really good 4*, rather than a 5*. Would we return? Yes, most definitely.

Room Tip: We were in room 316. It was a quiet room (I had requested one in advance, email the hotel, they'...

A family of four. Two boys, 7 and 5. Travelled 19th July for 7 nights. We stayed with Breakfast only. Overall possibly the best hotel in the location. Staff very courteous and polite. We arrived to be greated with a complimentary glass of bubbly and Orange for the kids. Got to a Large Sea View Room. 10 minutes later a call from Reception to ask if we are happy with the Room. Lots of little touches. A really wide range of food for Breakfast. As much as you can eat upto about 11:00a.m. Even includes Caviar and Bubbly. Our entertainment was to walk along the path which connects to Fenabe, whic is less than 10 minutes, where we had fantanstic choise of Chinese, Italian etc. Lots of street entertainment during the evenings as well. The twin ticket to Siam Park and Loro Park was also great. Best to get a Fast Pass for Siam Park or you will be waiting for a long time for each ride. Hotel was really great, very clean and staff worked hard. There was entertainment for the kids. Face painting for breakfast. Bouncy Castle in the pool etc. Kids Disco every night. We really have no complaints, but were also touched with the detail!!

Room Tip: Go Sea View!!

Good hotel which is situated in the more "up market" part of Adeje/Christianos/Las Americas (it's basically one town). It's a 5km walk to the end of the boulevard in Los Christianos. Del Duque beach is 200m away.

The rooms are spacious and are equiped with both bath and separate shower. The balcony/terrace of our rooms (party of 6) were also spacious and overlooked the pool area. 1 pool was rather cold, but swimming was possible. The other pool was well heated and relaxing.

We only had breakfast in the hotel. Which is great. If you can't find anything you like here you won't find this anywhere.

The price we've paid was competitive to say the least. So in our case price/quality was a big plus!

If I should mention a downside it would be the WiFi which was not very stable during our stay.

As a recently joined member of trip advisor, this is a late review. We stopped at the Gran Tacande July 2011 on a family holiday and have recently been to their sister hotel Dream Gran Castillo Resort in Lanzarote.

The Tacande is classed as a 5* luxury hotel in the most prestegious area of Tenerife; 5 minutes walk into Costa Adeje is definitely not luxurious! Tacky at the best. Las Americas is horrible! The hotel however, is in a very nice area. We stayed bed and breakfast for 14 nights, but wished we had upgraded to half board, after hearing wonderful reviews about the evening meal. If breakfast was anything to go by it must have been fabulous. We tried the restaurants next door at the hacienda and also the Mirabello, which were expensive, pretentious and overated; the little italian immediately next door to the hotel called Portifinos was very good however and half the price of those mentioned.

Rooms luxurious, pool and bar area clean and well maintained, with plenty of sunbeds.

I think what lets this hotel down is the lack of atmosphere; most people seem to have gone to the local spa shop next door to buy alcohol and probably drink this on their balconies during the evening; hotel lobby/bar huge and hardly anyone in after 9pm! That said, very beautifully and tastefully furnished.

The hotel is exactly the same as the Dream Gran Castillo in Lanzarote but does not offer all inclusive and therefore gives a more formal impression. It also cost us the same to stop bed and breakfast at the Tacande as AI at the Castillo; probably paying for location/Tenerife.

We had a lovely holiday though and the staff were all very pleasant. I would return to the Tacande as a couple, but i do not think it was suitable for families with teenagers.

Nice beach across the road too!
