Porto Mykonos Hotel
Ranked #58 of 82 Hotels in Mykonos Town
Reviewed 4 October 2011

Porto Mykonos provided the perfect complement to our Greek honeymoon. From our welcome champagne drinks out on the porch with a breathtaking view of Hora to the friendly and attentive front desk staff to the (again) breathtaking views from our balcony, my husband and I felt very lucky to have chosen such a great spot.
The complimentary breakfast was tasty, but even better, you are able to dine out on the porch overlooking the water. The pool area was relaxing and well-maintained. The hotel itself was gorgeous, and because of its small size, had a cozy feel. The location of the hotel has its positives and negatives: on the plus side, it is a short walk into the heart of Hora, and its hill top location affords great views. However, it is located on a hill, with a slightly perilous road to climb (although this can be said of the roads all over the island.)
The only downsides that I found to the hotel were :1) the beds left something to be desired in terms of comfort, and 2) the bath mats need to be more absorbent.

Overall, we really enjoyed Porto Mykonos, and we were actually really sad to leave the hotel! We would definitely recommend it.

We had a lovely time at the Porto Mykonos. It was a great location and we could walk into town within minutes. We had a great view and a lovely little balcony, but the bathroom was very small and the shower turned into a wet shower. The pool was great and always had great music playing (and not load or obnoxious). The hotel had a lovely wrap around deck which we enjoyed our breakfast on each morning. I can't say enough about the staff. Maria and Adrian (i think) went above and beyond!! I ended up getting an eye infection and Maria arranged my dr's apt and Adrian drove us there as we could not get a cab in time. They always had a warm smile and were happy to help with anything. all in all a great time!!

We liked the location: very close to the village/port, but reasonably quiet (some bus traffic heard nevertheless). The view of the bay and the port is very nice, but it is true that one cannot avoid the road and the nearby parking (flip side of the coin).
The agency had booked us in a standard room, but we were given what amounted to a suite in a converted wind mill on the premises: this turned out to be a very nice accommodation indeed: living room and bathroom on the first (ground) floor and one large, circular room on each of the two other floors; there was also a terrace where we were shielded from the wind (often a problem in the Cyclades islands), but not from the sun.
Staff were very friendly and service was excellent.
We once had a congestion problem during breakfast: too many guests wanted breakfast at the same time and tableware and sitting room appeared to be in short supply; it is also best not to wait till 11:30 a.m. since some offerings may have disappeared by then.
For Mykonos, this hotel may be a "small luxury hotel"; whether it can (or should) be compared to other "small luxury hotels of the world" elsewhere remains to be seen...

This hotel is part of the small luxury hotels of the world. I think they made a mistake here...

Pos:
* beautifull views
* Nice pool area
* Front desk staff is very kind
* After we complained about our room, we got a free upgrade to a junior suite

Neg:
* Rooms are small
* Beds are terrible! For a hotel that is part of the small luxury hotels of the world, you would expect a good bed.
* Bathroom is very small. After you shower, everthing including your room is wet
* The sink is placed in front of the toilet, making it difficult to use it.
* Breakfast is the same every day, for a hotel in this price range, you would expect more

Bottem line:

Before I booked this hotel, I read some of the bad reviews but I just did not believe them as the pictures looked so nice. I will never make that mistake again....

If you want to spent a lot of money for a beautiful view then book this hotel. If you want real luxury, I would go else where. I am never going to visit this hotel again.

+++ Great location : 10 mn from the heart of the city, 5 mn to take the speedboat.
+++ Good service and nice people
++ Great view form balcony, except the down view directly on the parking of the port (maybe ask for a room on different exposition). Very nice lounge and pretty small terrace for a coffee a-or drink.
- But, small and basic rooms : bare decoration, old closet, very basic bathroom...
-- Noisy early housekeeping during minimum 2 hours !!!
Quiet expensive for the standing...

Hotel Porto Mykonos was definitely client friendly, staff was always on hand and very polite, nothing was too much trouble, location for us was excellent. Sea view room with an adequate balcony, the room was good, only disappointment was the bathroom, definitely in need of a refurbish, although we did get clean towels every day. There was no smoke alarm or instructions for emergency evacuation which was a concern. Steps leading to all rooms, which could be a problem for the infirm. Ate in some fantastic restaurants, To Maereio was excellent; do not be put off by the menu all food was fantastic, their chickpea patties were to die for. Kostas was another great place. There is a fantastic Italian fresh pasta restaurant, Barkia Pasta Fresca, be warned portions are large, so share starters. Fish Tavern Koynelas was also great food, but make sure you order side dishes with your main meal as nothing is served with the main meal. Also have starters before ordering main meal, service is very quick. Always check the prices of food and drink before ordering it can be expensive especially in Little Venice. Public transport to the beaches was good and cheap, we preferred the Ornos beach, which was approx 30 mins journey and cost euro 1.60 single, taxi was euro 10, good beach for families. Great taverna Porto Ornos must give it a try. Another beach is Platis Gialos, we found this too crowded, sunbeds too close together, but we found great food at Restaurant Alegro, made up for the crowded beach. Cruise Ships are a regular feature in Mykonos, the town can be very crowded as there is usually 2 or 3 ships in port at any one time, Tuesday is the busiest with 5 cruise ships. The island can be very windy, the week we were there we had high winds every day, and this did not spoil the holiday, just a nuisance at times.

My husband and I stayed at Porto Mykonos Hotel for 4 nights, while we were on our honeymoon. The hotel location is absolutely beautiful and in a very privileged spot.
Upon arrival they offered us a sparkling wine as a welcome drink and offered us to sit outside to admire the view.
The original reservation was for a classic room, but be sure to ask for one of the rooms that has been renovated, as the room was very tiny, nearly no closet space-furniture that fall apart and the bathroom was with a cheap plastic shower curtain.
Rula the front Office Manager is an experienced and attentive 5 star young lady, who goes out of her way to make sure each guest feel welcome and very special. When we complaint about the room she upgrade us to a superior room with no extra charge and helping us with the island. Most of the staff was very courteous and willing to helping us with our wills, many thanks to Christina.
The breakfast was very basic with no variety of things espesially if you go there at 11.30 you will not find anything although buffet closes at 12.00,no variety of fresh fruits omelletes and croissants.
Pool area is cramped and there is no poolside.The hotel as a hotel is very beautiful but a lot of improvements need to be done.
its very pity to go there and see things that have nothing to do with what you see in their website....
