We arrived in Mykonos Town and were unpleasantly surprised that it lacked the restraint and beauty of all of the other places we had just been...Chania, Crete; Oia, Santorini; Naoussa, Paros....
Luckily we stumbled upon White Star soon after getting off the bus in Mykonos Town. Neither of us were in the mood to spend a lot on an expensive dinner, but after looking at the menu with the hostess and hearing about the Michelin-starred chef, we changed our mind.
We are glad we did. The experience at White Star was extremely memorable. The restaurant is beautiful, very modern and clean, with everything in white and wood tones. The staff treated us like gold.
The food was very good, with a bit of average mixed in. The cuttlefish soup was incredible! Absolutely delicious. The calamari was also so flavorful. I loved the cabbage leaves with shrimp as well. Our absolute favorite however, was the thin slices of crispy bread with eggplant. It was like nothing I've ever had before, and so tasty! The one dish we go that left a bit to be desired was the salmon appetizer. It was very plain and something you could really have at home.
What made the meal was the sommelier. She really knew her stuff! She helped us find an oak-barreled white wine and we absolutely loved it. She also assisted us with after-dinner drinks. Needless to say we were quite drunk by the end of our meal! We had a great time talking to her throughout the meal, and learning all about the wines.
Definitely head over to White Star if you are in need of a calm, tasty respite in Mykonos.
