We spent our first week in an isolated farmhouse, but Maison Lavandier was right in the center of town. Easy access to everything - a butcher next door, a small market down the street, bakery around the corner, restaurants galore within a few minutes' walk. Close to Bergerac for shopping and St. Emilion for wine trip. The house is spacious, plenty of room for the 4 of us. Great outside eating area. Beautifully decorated and very authentic. The weekly market was right at the front gate - the best market of our entire trip. The many levels could cause stair-climbing problems for the less fit, and being downtown was a bit noisy at times.

“Maison Lavandier... Made our holiday”

We stayed in La Maison Lavandier over Easter 2015. We were a family of 6, including children and grandparents. I would honestly say that the house made the holiday, it is amazing! From the four large floors, joined by a gorgeous wooden staircase, the architecture is so decadent and extravagant. As parents with two children, we chose the adjoining double rooms on the third floor, with grandparents having the top floor to themselves. This arrangement suited us very well. The kitchen is a single story additional building to the main house, and is large, light-filled and well equipped with a big dining table and five ring gas hob and electrical oven. We found the coffee machine very useful and made use of many pots, pans and sets of crockery. We all found the hot tub to be surprisingly enjoyable, and although we were never all in it together, we used it every evening. Looking up at the fabulous house surrounded by stars with a plastic glass of champagne was out of this world, and a memorable experience.

There was English and French television provided. We only used the English TV some evenings, which was perfect for Poldark loving grandparents! The bedrooms were also well-equipped with two hairdryers and straighteners. Plenty of attractive bedding, bedside lamps for all and lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Although some of the bathroom fixtures were old, which added to the charm, everything was in full working order and both of the bathrooms had good working showers. One of the major bonuses was the free Wi-Fi which worked best on the first and second floors, and a bit on the third floor. There were great views of Eymet and its countryside from the higher floors. There was plenty of outdoor space with three seating areas, which felt quite private, considering we were in the centre of the town. One delight was waking up to find the market beneath our windows on a Thursday morning. Other than the Wednesday evening and Thursday until afternoon, parking was easy outside the house and was not a problem for a large 7-seater car.

Eymet was a pleasant town with several bakeries, two Spar shops and several restaurants. Of the two restaurants we visited to have a meal, our favourite was the Pizzeria in the square which we visited on our first night, and again for takeaway pizzas another night. Further afield, Bergerac was a delightful small city with plenty to fill a day out. We would recommend Empreinte restaurant for a truly magnificent 3 course lunch under 17 euros per person. We also visited an underground cave called La Grotte Celestine in Rauzan which was a delight. We had to wear wader boots and hardhats and our wonderful guide spoke English very well.

Back to Maison Lavandier, thank you Terrie, Cathy and Claire for an amazing holiday.

I was amazed to find this exceptionally well presented house hidden in the bastide town of Eymet, I was a first time visitor checking the area out to come for the Tour De France in July, not only will I be returning for the Tour De France but certainly for future holidays! The area is beautiful, with amenities just a few minutes walk including friendly bars and restaurants. The airport is perfectly situated to get here quickly and stress free. Great for the kids too, we had plenty of room to relax in the evening in the garden making much use of the hot tub!
