This has been my fifth visit to the Bosque Mar and as the last reviewer said a real 'Jewel in the Crown'. Not on the 'tourist highway' but in a delightful, peaceful location in a small village that you would be hard pushed to find if you didn't know it was there. Gentle 5-10 minute stroll down through pinewoods to a lovely beach, although do remember its uphill on the way back !
A family run hotel where all the staff were lovely and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The owner is always around and his wife does all the cooking using fresh produce from their own organic garden and I would just love to have some of her recipes - the food was always delicious with a varied choice of meals from European dishes to local specailities. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria or you can eat outside by the pool - a real treat in the sunny weather that we had. The beautiful Japanese gardens and the outdoor pool area were another highlight of the hotel - a lovely area to swim, read, have a drink or simply relax. There is also a small indoor pool and jacuzzi.
The hotel has two buildings, one each side of the gardens and pool. On previous visits we've stayed in the main buliding overlooking the gardens but this time stayed in the other side which was equally as nice. The bedrooms are quite spacious and very pleasant. There's a lovely lounge area there but this wasn't used much as most of the guests sat outside in the evenings.
For me the hotel has such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and I am always amazed how so few people can produce such good service. A special mention to Oscar the general manager who seemed to be everywhere quietly directing operations and making sure things ran smoothly. The staff in the hotel speak good English but we didn't hear very much English spoken locally otherwise. There's a big Aquarium nearby that's worth a visit and a few bars/cafes on the way to the beach . What you will not find are shops - at which my husband heaves a great sigh of relief ! If you are feeling energetic you can walk the 3kms or so into O'Grove where there are lots of shops and harbour area, otherwise you will need your own transport.
If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing time in a quiet part of northern Spain without all the tourist regalia, then this is the place for you. Thank you everyone at Bosque Mar for a lovely holiday - we'll be back !
