“Perfect - Once Again!”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

About the 8th time I've visited Achtis. We stayed 16th of June for a week, chosen especially so I could stay in my favourite place for my birthday! It was a lovely holiday as always thanks to all the staff- Achilles (always a busy bee), Magda (who loves chocolate oranges - to anyone thinking of thank-you gifts!) Lillia, Kristina, Sevi, the caretaker/ gardener and all the kitchen staff. Everyone is amazingly helpful and will try to do anything you ask. It's the most idyllic relaxing home away from home; I wish I went for two weeks! Theres so much to do over there- with Afitos at your fingers, the beach and Kalithea just a short walk away with tonnes more if you rent a car / get a taxi- eg Hanioti village, Cosmos shopping centre, Petralona caves, Thessaloniki ect! The hotel itself is fab with roaming timid peacocks and a peaceful atmosphere. On my birthday itself I was surprised with a cake and the staff singing to me! It was perfect as always. Definately will always recommend until my lips turn blue! Can't wait until next year!!

Our third stay at The Achtis Hotel during first week of July and in our opinion it just keeps getting better. Thank you to Lillia, Kristina, and all the staff, Magda and Achilles for making our holiday wonderful, such a friendly and warm welcome and always being so happy and I know very passionate about the job and service you provide.

Couldn't fault a thing and we didn't find it a problem to get a sun bed either by the pool or in the garden.

The room was incredibly stylish and very comfortable and kept impeccably clean. Clean towels provided daily very much appreciated.

Spoilt for choice at breakfast time with so much variety on offer including champagne! All the good we had at the Achtis was very good indeed.

We love Afitos for its unspoilt traditional charm, we like the laid back relaxing atmosphere. It is not the place for the less mobile or for those looking for party nightlife.

I am sure this won't be our last visit... Thank you Magda, just keep doing what you are doing x

Room Tip: All rooms face the pool, we have stayed in a ground floor room twice and a second floor room on pre...

We stayed at this great little hotel last June (2013) and had a lovely break. Most guests were couples or older families so it was peaceful and relaxing. The hotel is a lush little oasis (palms, peacocks and pretty covered gazebos). It's sited in a very pretty, historical village with an array of authentic tavernas, scattered along the cobbles, overlooking the sea. Quality of the rooms is very good and the staff go out if their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

HOWEVER.... we returned in July this year, and, whilst the hotel is still lovely, it was overrun with families with primary school aged children and younger. As the pool area is fairly small, it was impossible to avoid the noise of shrieking, excitable kids (and even noisier parents!) and a vast array of massive lilos; thus not so relaxing this time. Great for families but couples or older families lookingbto chill out may want to consider which time of the year they book.

We will undoubtedly return to the Achtis but will stick to earlier or later months of the year.

Room Tip: All rooms in this hotel are well situated, although the ground floor ones are nice as they lead stra...

We have just returned from two weeks at the Achtis, our fifth visit. After this number of trips it is difficult to find new words to describe what a fabulous hotel this is. The sense of relaxation begins the moment you arrive. Magda & Achilles, along with every one of the team strive constantly to make sure visitors want for nothing. The hotel is always immaculately clean & the service is excellent. We celebrated our wedding anniversary this trip & were surprised with a lovely fresh fruit salad & chilled bottle of wine that afternoon, so thoughtful.

Our room this time was on the top floor with excellent views along the peninsula & across the sea to Sithonia, shaded in the afternoon so great to relax on the balcony late afternoon / early evening.

Like others, we are confused at comments about limited selection at breakfast - this has never been our experience, we have always found there to be an excellent selection (as listed by other reviewers) which increases by the year. If anyone has any particular requests the hotel are always keen to oblige where they can - on this trip my husband jokingly tested this ... only to find his 'request' on the table the next morning!!

We prefer to use the loungers in the beautiful gardens, as opposed to on the poolside, finding this can be cooler on really hot days. At no point during our stay was there a lack of beds there, always a number free both in sun or shady locations. One of the joys of the hotel is that the range of day beds, loungers & chairs are spread out allowing people space to move - not crammed in side by side. Again, if you were to find yourself without a bed, staff are quick to bring in more, as we have witnessed previously.

We can't reccommend this hotel highly enough. We have had a fabulous break - enjoyed meeting guests from previous stays again along with making new friends. To Magda, Achilles & everyone who makes the Achtis so special (Christina, Lilia & Sevi, Nat ... and the list goes on) - thankyou, we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The high guest return rate for this hotel is testimony to the fact that it is well run, very friendly, serves nice food and has a very high committment from staff and owners to looking after guests likes and needs. Service is personal but sensitive, staff are good at knowing when to chat and when to leave guests to their own thoughts.
Satisfaction depends on personal preferences. Having a great affection for Greece, we have done a lot of travelling around the country, so the region we are in is as important to us as the accomodation. Afitos is a pretty and laid back old village and everywhere we eat was clean and of a good standard. It's charm is not however typical of the rest of Kassandra, which - in terms of construction and development - shows a lack of thought and planning. We went for a stroll around Kalithea village one evening and wished we hadn't bothered. On our regional travells we found beaches with noisy bars, lots of litter, and down at heal small coastal towns (we thought Loutra was a small but notable exception, nice for beach and bathing - there's a real thermal SAPA there ).
There are a lot of solitary unfinished concrete blots on the region's landscape and some big impersonal hotels. It's a shame because the actual natural resources are really amazingly beautiful. It was good to see agriculture and cultivation offering an alternative to tourism. Tourism seems to have evolved without any sensitive planning and infrastructure - and why so many fur shops, why ANY fur shops come to that?
In my opinion the beach at Afitos is not as pleasant as the village. The path from Afitos had lots of glass on it both times we walked down and smelly puddles. The shore line is stone - we felt that some effort could be made to clear litter and tidy up the shore line. For bathing and lunching we preferred Kalithea beach just under Delfini taverna (nice lunch) and Loutra village (nice traditional taverna on beach). We also spent a pleasant afternoon at the Nostos beach.
We were happy to have chosen the Achtis (amazingly convenient for Liddle!) - the village is just a few meters walk away (track from hotel to village very rutted though), the BBQ was very good, we loved the frogs, swifts and peacocks. Sleep quality Ok but I sleep lightly so stone floors and corridors mean ear plugs.
Some guests prefer to spend a good proprtion of the holiday around the pool, enjoying the beauty of the hotel and the excellent service. We got up before breakfast one morning and were suprprised to see bags and towels already staking claims for daylong occupancy of prime sites. The popular poolside beds/chairs/divans look really relaxing and inviting, but - depending on fellow guests - you may need to be a bit canny to get some of this limited space for yourself. You can get up early and put out a few towels, or in the quiet of the afternoon you may be tempted to boldly cast aside some of those lonely sunbathing towels and grab yourself a poolside lounger for cocktails and chill time.
Last year we stayed at a popular small accomodation on Greece's western shores, there were signs at the pool asking guests to kindly remove towels when leaving pool loungers, and stating that posessions left behind were placed behind the bar for safekeeping. Bar staff followed this through and It worked!

Just returned after spending 2 weeks at the Achtis Hotel, this hotel is fantastic, made better by all of the staff. Magda, Achilles, Lilia, Christina, Sevi, Natalia. As soon as you arrive you are made to feel extremely welcome. The rooms are lovely and clean, beds comfy with towels and bedding changed daily. We travel to Greece a couple of time a year, and the breakfast at the Achtis is by far the best, we had a giggle most mornings listening to Lilia reeling off to new arrivals what was offer.
The food in the restaurant is also very good, with a big selection and everything cooked to order.
The pool area is fantastic as are the gardens with enough sunbeds for everyone.
We would highly recommend the Achtis and we will definately return.
Thanks to all the staff for Fantastic 2 weeks.
Suzanne & Tony

We had our fifth visit to the Achtis in June and have already booked for next year - the return rate for guests at this hotel is very high. The hotel is superb with lovely grounds and beautifully decorated rooms. Of course the best thing about the hotel is the owners, Magda and Achilles and the staff, Lillia, Kristina, Sevi, Helena, Natalie and the others I can't remember the names. They are all friendly and helpful and make the holiday perfect.

Like others, I cannot believe that anyone would say they need more variety at breakfast. Are you sure you were stopping at the Achtis? Just to give a run down of what is on offer - a variety of breads and toast, sausages, bacon, eggy bread, fried eggs, omelletes, boiled eggs, vegetable fritata, cheese pies, fresh fruit (cherries/strawberries/apricots/melon etc), homemade cakes, fresh greek yoghurt, three or four jams, three or four cereals, cereal bars, ham, cheese, tomatoes, vine leaves, honey balls, pancakes, fresh coffee, filter coffee, instant coffee, cappucino, latte etc, traditional tea, fruit teas etc, apple juice, orange juice, champagne on ice. I may have missed something but.... And if you have any other requests they will do there best to help. So - what more could you want - you could have a different breakast everyday for 14 days! And did I mention that it is a buffet and you can have as much as you want and you can eat it at the table or even go and sit on a sunbed. We usually had coffee on the sunbed, breakfast at the table and then bucks fizz back on the sunbed :) And of course the courtesy and helpfulness of Lillia at breakfast is excellent..

The weekly barbecue is amazing and great value. Loads of variety of meats and salads, rice, potatoes etc and great hosting by the team.

The chef Helena is great and makes some lovely meals if you want to eat lunch or dinner at the hotel.

Kristina is great fun and always smiling, and the new member of the team, Sevi is really sweet. She has only just started to learn English and in only a few weeks is brilliant at it.

Natalie is also really friendly and always greets guests with a smile.

Children and families are never a problem. Yes they run around a bit and yes sometimes there is a bit of splashing but what do you expect if you sit next to the pool. I have never encountered a badly behaved child at the Achtis. Also the staff are really kind and welcoming to children.

Finally, the towel on sunbed issue. Of course this happens as it does at any hotel, but it is not a problem. There are plenty of beds to go round and the pool is the perfect size for this number of rooms.

I cannot think of any other hotel I have been to in the world that offers what the Achtis does. A beautiful place to relax, great rooms, food and service and owners and staff who are also friends to us and other guests.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms get a view of the sea.
