“A lovely first holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed here as our first holiday together, and we both agreed that it was a lovely place. We got this as a package holiday for very good value, and couldn't really fault it. We were expecting twin beds, having not booked a double but we were given a double room anyway. The room was spacious, although the shower was quite small- but this is common all over Greece in hotels, so I didn't see this as much of a problem. The room has air conditioning and a safe that you pay for separately, but the staff didn't seem to mind when we payed for it.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and we got on well with them. They were happy to do extra things for us, such as booking us a taxi when we were unsure how to. We found the food delicious, especially the weekly Greek night, and it was always traditional Greek food. The hotel itself is pretty and fairly small, which makes it feel all the more friendly.
The hotel is set on quite a steep hill, which we didn't find to be too much of a problem, but I can see this being difficult for someone with a disability or who finds it hard to walk long distances. Personally, I feel that this wasn't a big problem, and most of Greece is hilly so it can't be helped.
Overall, I felt that this was a welcoming and lovely place to stay and we will definitely be returning to it in the future.

Very good small hotel which is family owned good rooms and service food could be more varied the only problem was the hill steep to the village and even steeper down to the beach there is a train but it doesn't always stop outside the hotel if you are fitter than us then it may not be a problem

Another enjoyable stay at this small family run hotel. Our second visit this year. Used the beach a lot more on this visit and sunbeds and umbrellas very reasonably priced at 5 euros per day. Also, tried a few of the restaurants in the village as it is nice to eat out a few times. Walk up to the village and down to the beach was never an issue to us, less than ten minutes either way. We like this hotel and area as it is a relaxing place to stay. Also nice resorts each way along the coast easily accessible by local bus service.Once again, thanks to all family and staff for another lovely stay. Already planning to go next year. Donna and John.

Went back after 20 years pleasantly surprised it had hardly changed.Food was lovely proper home cooked greek food which we all enjoyed and ate too much of! Breakfast is continental plus plenty of it. The dinners by the pool were lovely.Entertainment is low key but nice.At lunch there is a reasonably priced snack bar. I went with my husband;son and daughter in law and granddaughter 17 and they loved it! The hill to the beach and village is steep but i have severe arthritis and i managed. It was good exercise after dinner! Also is a train every hour so you can jump on that for a euro. We hope to return next year.

Don’t really know how to review this one – I think looking at most of the reviews people forget what they were paying - when we booked along with most of the others it was the cheapest half board accommodation available in the brochure so as with everything else in life you get what you pay for.
We had a week of superb weather so you can really forget any other problems. Location – the hotel is on a hill 10 minutes down is the beach 10 minutes up is the town – 95% of the world’s resorts are the same you go down to the beach up to the town – haven’t some of you reviewers been to Penzance! – true the hill is a bit of a steep one but either way you are rewarded – the beech is clean, golden sand and clear blue water – a few places are rocky and the beach where the sea breaks is gravel rather than sand so best to swim in foot wear and you can turn left or right and walk from bay to bay for miles with the odd beach bar to break it up. Up to the ‘town’ and it’s a collection of restaurants, bars and shops only about twenty units on either side of the road but all good for a night out just don’t expect any nightclubs. Food – yes the selection on offer is not great but again you are at the cheap end of the brochure you want 50 station hot buffets then stop complaining and spend a bit more money. Food was basic, little selection but perfectly edible, bar was reasonably priced. General – if you want a basic week away then all good the hotel rooms are tiny but spotlessly clean, a little bit tired. There is nothing to do at the hotel apart from the pool, restarant and bar there is no games rooms or evening entertainment apart from the worlds worse pub quiz conducted by our host who could only communicate by shouting and a ‘Greek’ night where they put on Zorba track did once round the swimming pool and then called it a night. So recommendation would be if you want a week away in a relatively remote spot and for a relative good price in comparison to what else is in the Thomson’s brochure then all fine – don’t complain about foot or amenities when you are not paying for them! I would certainly return to the area but probably look at self-catering and travelling to the area by easy-jet.

Room Tip: go for high floor sea view side the hotel pool behind is quite noisy as well as the kitchen extracto...

The Kassandra Bay hotel is very quiet and who is suits depends on what you are after......if it's just a clean bed and nothing else then perfect!

Half board is basic, I think other reviews have commented about the food - limited choice and bland whilst breakfast is cereals, bread, cheese, tomatoes and Greek yoghurt. The rooms / wardrobes are small so don't pack too much! A kettle in the rooms would have been good and it made a nice change not to have a tv! The hotel does look tired and the shower cubicle was similar to a spray tan booth. It's a Thomson's only hotel so you can easily get to know other guests. Other bonuses are free wifi in the reception and the biggest book library I have seen on holiday. The rooms were certainly kept very clean and the waitress and cleaners certainly work very hard.

The hotel is half way up a steep hill between the beach and town so perfect for getting those calves toned. Personally I liked the location, 10 minute walk either way to the town or beach but not for the unsteady on their feet or those who get easily out of breath! Most of the hotels in the area are not on the beach but there is apparently a shuttle service to and from the beach (didn't use this so can't comment). We walked to the other main beaches nearby but the local beach is the best, clear blue water, a small kiosk and quieter.

I wouldn't return to this hotel, don't think I would recommend, it was the peace and quiet that I was after but think self catering would have ticked just as many boxes and provided me with better variations for eating!

We stayed at the Kassandra Bay Hotel in Kiopoigi from 16th to 23rd September 2013.

This was at the end of the season and we stayed there with some friends from Leeds.

In a previous review headed that 'you get what you pay for' which goes onto to explain that the hotel is clean, the staff are friendly but the food is pretty pants; this in a nutshell is exactly what it is.

If I can elobrate on this, our room was basic, it looked tired. No bath, just a shower and cubicle that I could only just fit into (not much room for manouevre). Infact, the bathroom itself was small.
The beds were comfortable however, and I managed to get some good nights sleep.
However, the bedroom was pretty spacious and there was a decent sized balcony. The beds were comfortable however, and along with it being a quite holiday with peaceful holidaymakers I managed to get some good nights sleep.

The downfall of the room, along with the size of the bathroom, was that the walls to the adjoining rooms were thin and you could hear toilets flushing, showers running etc.

The cleaners came in every day and did a spotless job.

Now for the big downside, the food. We went half board and the evening meals were just about edible. I have eaten worse in other places though, but my wife and the wife of our friend's, did not eat at all in the hotel after the first meal.
For breakfast, it was pretty basic, tea, coffee, juice, bread rolls, muesili, flakes, bread for toast (with 2 tired toasters that had clearly seen better days), hard boiled eggs (some days scrambled eggs), yoghurt, cheese slices and fresh tomatoes. One day we had fried eggs and bacon!
There was no fruit (I took my own fruit down) and my wife took down her own butter as to spread on our toast. We also took our own mugs, coffee and tea bags. Their tea and coffee had a bad taste and the cups were only small.

The evening meals were edible (just) and it was nearly always pork. It was really only luke warm, especially if you did not go for dinner straight away. There was a basic variety with chips, rice (sometimes potatoes). We were served soup beforehand with 4 slices of bread (one slice per person), but each day the soup was very watery with a coating of grease on the top.
One day we had chicken.
Two evening meals were barbeque, as the hotel had barbeque nights on Thursday and Sunday.

The location of the hotel is on a hill and the hotel is pretty isolated. The uphill walk to Kiopigi village takes about 20 minutes and is very badly lit on a night. The village has bars, supermarkets, restaurants and gift shops. We spent most nights in the Casablanca bar, so our wives could get something to eat. Mind you, I was not moaning as I managed to watch football every night (even though Fulham lost).

Kipoigi beach is about 20 minutes walk down the same hill. The beach is quite and clean and the sunbeds will cost you two and a half euros. There is a small bar where you can get a drink, but the toilet facilities are a disgrace. There is mini bus from another hotel (or a noddy train) that will take you back up the hill for a euro each person.

We spent most our time in the neighbouring larger resort of Polichrono (8 euros by taxi), which we found to be clean with lots of bars, restaurants and shops. The sunbeds came at no cost if you bought a drink at the bars that displayed them.

We also visited Afytos (14 euros by taxi). We found this village attractive, but I got the feeling that it was upmarket compared to the other villages. It was more pricey. The downside here being that it seemed like a hike to the beach (lots of steps etc).

We enjoyed our stay in Halkidiki, but would not use the Kassandara Bay Hotel again on the count of their food and their rooms would not facilitate self catering.
